iis7 on windows 7 ultimate

i want to host a site from my personal pc. i have windows 7 ultimate with iis 7. can some one give me the guidlines to do this, please? when i browse the site i can view it but when i type in www.maragh.com i get dns unavailable

In:

http://localhost/CompiledSite/SamplePage.aspx

I have an error:

HTTP Error 404.0 - Not Found

The resource you are looking for has been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.

I have an IIS,
putting the http://localhost/, gives me the right page.

I don't have the tab:”Web sharing tab", (click Share this Folder).
I made just a normal sharing.

Best approach for publication to remote server

I am actively looking at FTP publishing. Anyway, before getting stuck into this more it crossed my mind that there may be other more appropriate ways to achieve what I need and hope someone can guide me. My needs are relatively simple:

Visual Studio 2008 to develop an ASP.Net/C# application on Windows Server 2008, with IIS 7.0
Publishing to a Windows Server 2008 / IIS 7.0 machine across the Internet, which is running on a virtual machine I own (in the sense I have full admin rights)
Upload speed from the development machine isn't great (128kps), with a download of 768kps
The application in question isn't too large. Buried amongst the various directories are a couple of hundred .gif files but these almost never change, so the delta between compiles is generally very small.

I am interested to know what options are available to me. I want to mimimize the time for publication (with the FTP publishing approach it seems that the entire application is sent to the server, even if I have only changed a line of logic). Even though I am not even completing the publishing (because of an error I receive which is mentioned in a seperate thread I opened), I am still seeing this take upwards of 15 minutes each time, which is kinda crazy when I have a small change to make. Are there any more intelligent ways to publish my application?

Any pointers?

Error while publishing through FTP

I am trying to move to publishing a web site to a remote FTP site. I have WS 2008 at both ends (my dev environment and the production server) and have configured FTP Publishing. The basic plumbing seems to be in place because when I use the Publish command I get prompted for credentials and the prompt telling me that the target directory will be wiped clean. I see all the files deleted on the production server and then start reappearing as the publication continues.

This takes a long time (I may have a seperate question about performance later) but files start appearing on the production server and this continues for 10 minutes or more. Then I get the wonderfully repetitive error show up:

Unable to add folder 'utils' to the Web site. Cannot create folder "utils".
Error: Unable to add folder 'utils' to the Web site. Cannot create folder "utils".

The publication process then aborts. So, I can't publish my application.

Any thoughts on how I can troubleshoot this?

How to: Publishing ASP.NET MVC application from VS2008 to Win2008 IIS7

Hello,

Unfortunately I have to use the new IIS7 on a Windows Server 2008. For almost two days I try to figure out how I can publish to that server. Nothing seems to work.

I am totally stuck with that task and the frustration level is undescribable.

Is there a tutorial somewhere that really works?

Can Exchange 2007 OWA be published on port 80/443 and just an informational web site be published on port 81 on the same server?

FPSE Allow anonymous upload

I have always been able to get anonymous upload to work in IIS 6. This is the feature exposed in FrontPage and Expression Web where you right click a folder and have access to various permissions like 'allow scripts to be run'. Every time I try and check the 'allow anonymous upload to this directory' box and apply and ok, then refresh, i can see the changes have not taken. Is this feature curently broken (does it work for anybody out there?) or is there something I need to know about IIS 7 that needs to be changed?

I have actually decided not to use this product. Given that my server was straight out-of-the-box with no complicating software beteween the FPSE 2002 and the OS itself, and the fact that the vendor wanted me to pay $400 per hour for support on getting this working, I have decided that this is not a viable product... at least not for me.

I disentagled FrontPage server extensions from my multiple sites over the weekend and am now using WebDAV instead.

Yet another FTP problem/question

I am using Windosw Server 2008 and IIs 7. I want to setup this server as test server for web development but I havent much experience in setting up servers.

I can see the home page for Default Web Site on my local nework .. 192.168.1.*. I tried adding FTP publishing to Default Web Site so that I can upload/download files to/from server from another machines on my local network.

Under IIS Manager > Site > for Default Web Site

I can see Status: Started(http), Started (ftp) and Binding - *:80(http), *:21: (ftp) .. I didn't enter any Virtual Host in Add FTP Site Publishing.

Other settings in Add FTP Site Publishing are -> Allow SSL, Authentication : Basic, Allow access to : Specified Users .. I put "administrator" as user and gave it Read, Write permissions.

From a machine on local network .. I just tried entering 192.168.1.10 on IE and could see home page.. If I try to connect to FTP using FileZilla by entering 192.168.1.10 (host), Logontype: Normal, and "administrator" as username and its password then it willnot connect. It does say connection established, waiting for welcome message.. but then it would get timed out. I am not sure if I am doing it right way.

I tried looking into other forums entries .. there are talks about firewall settings .. is it a firewall problem with me? or am not doing it right way??

Please guide and help me out. I know its a bit lengthy post.. but thanks for your time.

HELP! IIS7 website problem...

Sorry if I sound pretty thick, but I've only just stumbled on IIS7, and have only used other people's free ftp hosting before. Let me explain...

I am trying to set up an ASP website using IIS on my home pc. I've made the website, installed IIS7, created the website in IIS manager, and pointed it to the correct path on my hard drive. However, the only way to access it in a browser is by typing http://localhost/ or http://127.0.0.1/ (which I'm told are the same thing).

How can I make the website available to view on another pc? i've tried typing my ip address then :80 (which is where I set the binding to), and ipconfig only gives me my 192.168.1. address. Both of these just show me my router config. HELP!!!
