PHP: ISAPI or FastCGI (iis6)?

Hi!.. I'm migrating from asp to php under iis6. my question is: run PHP under Isapi or FastCGI mode? Which is the best? What are the pros and cons of each method.

I'm getting the same error message. I used Web Platform Installer to install WordPress, along with MySQL and PHP. I've tried this on 2 PC's running Windows7 both failed though for different reasons.

So much for WPI making life easier!

FastCGI does not pass PHP error to syslog (windows event log)

Hello everyone,

i'm trying to get our systems shift to W2K8 and IIS7. Therefore i need to pass every php error to the windows event log (not an error log file!), but unfortunately i can't get it working. This is the only problem as the rest of my php scripts is working properly now. I'm using:

- IIS 7
- Windows Server 2008
- PHP 5.3.0
- Role Service: Cgi
- php.ini:
error_reporting = E_ALL & ~E_DEPRECATED
log_errors = On
error_log = syslog

Strange thing is, that calling php-fcgi.exe on the console passes the errors to the event log without any problem, although it prints a HTTP 500 status:

php-cgi.exe -c php.ini failure.php
Status: 500 Internal Server Error
Content-type: text/html; charset=utf-8

Even the setting of "fastcgi.logging" (0/1) doesn't fix this issue. I already granted permission for IIS_IUSRS and the Internet Guest Account via regedit to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\EventLog\ and to C:\Windows\System32\winevt without success. Also php 5.2.10 and Zend Server (CE) did not pass it through.

Can anyone assist and tell me what to do?

Problems creating New Sites

Help!

Major problem creating new sites in IIS7 on WS 2008 SBS x64
page cannot display this is on every site created on port 80 when changing port to another the page displays and works!

i have other pages on port 80 but when created test1 and test2 and other pages the page cannot be found. when i created a site with Web Platform Installer the sites referers to other physical paths other than set on IIS7.

I have probably tested every single thing soon.

The Service is unavailable, to one site but available to others in same app pool

Ok, so I have 7 web sites running through the same application pool. 6 of which are working just fine the other is not. I have 1 other website running the same model of site as the one that is not working.

www.glazedproductions.com - is working DefaultAppPool

www.ricestreetmusic.com - is not working same application pool

I have tried to recycle the application pool to no avail, and almost thought this could be a php issue, but thats not it either, becuase both sites use php, and one is working and the other is not.

I have no errors in my log files but I do have this 1 information event...

A worker process with process id of '4708' serving application pool 'DefaultAppPool' was shutdown due to inactivity. Application Pool timeout configuration was set to 20 minutes. A new worker process will be started when needed.

Thats all I have to go on... if anyone can help me out it would truly appreciated. This is a client site that is not functional right now, and I have been all over google looking for answers but nothing I come across seems to work.

Hi.

The problem is that for php compiler you have to use is -c <php.ini_file_path> but it only works for php.exe not for php-cgi.exe

I had to use php.exe instead of php-cgi.exe and in my website´s handler mapping i configured php extension using "C:\<php_root>\php.exe"|-c <new_php.ini_file_path>

You can also test php-cgi by console putting the following command:

C:\<php_root>\php-cgi -c <php.new_ini_file_path>

If it works, it will works on IIS.

FastCGI fails on some requests.

Hi!

I tried three different Versions off iisfcgi.dll already. If I access the phpinfo.php from my computer in the office I get no response and following error in windows application error log of the server:

I'm using IIS7 on Windows 2008 Server x64 and PHP 5.2.8

On all other machines I tried, it works fine, from another server in our office, from the homeoffice, from the same machine, when I connect to a different network per VPN. I'm all out of clues, maybe you can tell me something that I can do to find out what the problem might be. Google was no help at all.

IIS7 -FastCGI -PHP White Screen of Death

I am having an issue with IIS7 and PHP relating to clients receiving the white screen of death (blank page) after 90 seconds of processing. Standard php processing works fine.

The following are set in php.ini:

max_execution_time = 180
max_input_time = 180
memory_limit = 128M

In the FastCGI configuration on IIS I have the following:

ActivityTimeout 900
IdleTimeout 300
RequestTimeout 500

I have a simple page that runs through loop and sleeps every 15 seconds. If I set the max_execution_time to 30 seconds, I get the php execution time exceeded error as I should with two entries in the page. If I manually set_time_limit(0), it gives the white page of death. I have set php logging and nothing appears in the log. I intentionally put a syntax error to make sure and the syntax error was logged. In addition, I can set the ActivityTimeout to 10 and IIS gives me a 500 error telling me that the FastCGI process exceeded the configuration activity timeout.

The weird thing is the Failed Request Tracking show that the time taken was 30592 msec with a status of 200 (I assume success). However, the last entry in the request trace is "FASTCGI_WAITING_FOR_RESPONSE"...

Any ideas???

I get this error when I attempt to open any php page.

This is a brand new install of IIS, php, mysql, on Vista SP1

After trouble shooting for a little while I found out that if I attempt to run php-cgi.exe or php.exe a bunch of errors come up immediately stating it can't find like 5 .dll files and reinstalling may fix the problem.----- Well I tried reinstalling multiple times and no luck so far

Here is what I've done so far, reinstalled php mutiple times, double checked extension_dir path, added registry key under HKLM software php and added path for php.ini file, and have double checked other settings in php.ini

Anyone have any ideas?

Not to hijack this thread, but I'm experiencing similar issues.

I'm running Windows 2008 x64 in a VMware ESXi Virtual Machine. All network components are working, as I'm able to a) download patches and b) get to this blog to write this post :)

Directions seemed to be going fine, I got the 5.2.8 version of PHP, installed the IIS7 admin tools for FastCGI administration, etc. Typed in c:\php\php -info and a whole slew of text scrolled across my machine. Yay!

But then, I tried two things: 1) place the phpinfo.php into the c:\windows\inetpub directory, and 2) created a c:\www\phptest directory, placed the phpinfo.php and an index.php (both with the same text), created a virtual directory called phptest

I tried http://localhost/phpinfo.php and http://localhost/phptest and http://localhost/phptest/phpinfo.php.

I ensured that phpinfo.php and index.php were included in all the default documents (even made it first on the list.)

One thing I noticed, the docs say if you don't see the modules listed (mind you, that's if the website even worked) to edit the applicationHost.config file - I don't have that file in my system32\config... it's in a HISTORY directory... (it exists on my Windows2003 server in that location, but not Windows 2008) Is that causing issues?

And I got error 403.14 - Forbidden

If I tried http://localhost/phptest/phpinfo.php I got the generic "The webpage cannot be found."

I tried downloading the x64 bit verion from Fusion (5.2.5)... Same errors

I had similar experiences with getting PHP to work on Windows 2003 R2 with IIS6.

PHP from the commandline works - but can't get IIS to get it to work.

Using things like Filemon (on Win2003 at least) never really revealed where I didn't have permissions.

I'm new to IIS7, so maybe it's a security thing? Dunno. It's a pretty vanilla Windows 2008 Server. Freshly created to get IIS7 and PHP working (with FastCGI)

Any help or directions would be nice.
