If I understand correctly, you wish to install WMS on the final release (build 7600) of Windows Server 2008 R2. The build 7600 version of WMS is not yet available for any language.

WMS ships out-of-band from Windows Server, and the final release schedules for the two diverged. We are currently targeting the release of WMS build 7600 in the first quarter of 2010.

So that must also be protected againt hotlink/deep linking.

At this point we are using an application on the streaming servers that validates a tokenized url before serving the stream to the requester. But that application does not work on ws8 / iis7.

I can see that there are some obfuscating feature in the playlist module, that maybe could provide some of this protection. But as I read it that only secures that the content is played in the order specified in the playlist. And what we would need is a way to ensure that we only allow the content to be viewed in our players by validated users.

Is there any way to do this or do we still ned a 3. party application installed on the servers?

IIS 7 mp4 playback does not allow random access or seeking

<cs:applicationKey>iis7_-_media-41</cs:applicationKey>

i used this website to create the mime type and module handler:

can someone PLEASE tell me how i can configure IIS7 or what i can do to allow seeking?

i have read somewhere that what i need to achieve is to enable byte-range requests. Byte-range support is also known as content-range or partial-range support

Re: Changing from different bitrates took nearly 7 seconds in Smooth Streaming format

<cs:applicationKey>iis7_-_media-41</cs:applicationKey>

Hi, Joeri,

The original IIS Smooth Streaming bit rate switching heuristics in Expression Encoder 2 SP1 are a bit conservative under some conditions, slowly ramping up to higher bit rates, one at a time. You might try passing your content through the IIS Smooth Streaming settings in Expression Encoder 3, which should provide improved heuristics performance.

I want to share with you the posts I wrote about performing different Live Smooth Streaming operations programatically, such as retrieving the configuration settings and start/stop/shutdown a publishing point.

Whichever encoder you use will need to be able to create fragmented MP4 files and Smooth Streaming manifests. If the Inlet hardware is not an option for you at this time, look for announcements from other encoding companies in the weeks and months ahead. In the meantime, you might also contact your encoder manufacturer to let them know you would like them to add support for Live Smooth Streaming.

To do live encoding, you will need to have an encoder that supports this, such as recently announced products from Inlet (www.inlethd.com). See the MIX conference session where this was demonstrated at http://videos.visitmix.com/MIX09/T56F.

Additional encoding options will be available in the coming months.
