W3SVC error

hello everybody i installed IIS and it won't start. I went to the IIS manager and clicked start then i got an error it tells the following Cannot start service W3SVC on computer '.'. what should i do os: Windows Vista SP2

WPI *.exe does not install - xp pro sp3

I downloaded wpilauncher.exe v2.0 RC. Absolutely nothing happens when I double click the downloaded file. I searched through the forum, based on this search, I tried changing the "machine.config" file in C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\CONFIG\ . I copied and renamed "machine.config.default" to "machine.config". This did not help, although I am not entirely certain that was the correct approach in the first place.

Specs: XP pro, service pack 3. I have versions 1, 1.1, 2, 3, and 3.5 of the .net framework (if that matters at all) I have already installed Visual Web Developer 2008 Express and Visual Basic 2008 Express.

First Installation Fails

I just installed wpilauncher for the first time. After going through the tedious task of providing user names and passwords for a platoons worth of people it informed me that the product had been previously installed. I found this a novel means of getting software is installed. This Hard Drive has only been installed for about 4 day, and this was my first installation of any of the MSDN offerings. Could you use this new technology to install Windows 7 for me.

I tried to install Silverlight Web Platform, but it failed to install. I am on an XP as the administrator and I have up to .Net 3.5 on my machine, including Web Dev express, SQL 2008 express and C# express installed.

I have the same problem, but I will ask a question to,

I have the same problem with Windows 7 Professional RTM 64bit, but i don't have the problem with Windows 7 Ultimate build 7000/7100 RC 64bit Version.

Also there are some products missing like PHP, Drupal and a lot more.

Are there any differents with windows 7 products that will not allow us to see these tabs and the missing products?

Stupid Installation Tricks - IIS 7 and Vista

I'm a retired IT professional with a lot of experience in networking in the Unix world; I've only just begun working with IIS. I manage a nonprofit web site running on DotNetNuke 4.3.5 (backleveled version). I'm trying to build a test site on my laptop so I can experiment with update techniques without taking down the production site.

My laptop runs Vista Home Premium and IIS 7.0 (also SQL Server 2005 Express but I'm pretty sure my problem now is pure web server). I was trying to do the install with just point and click, but things didn't work right the first time, and I believe I may have shot myself in the foot. At one point I tried to install my test site directly in \inetpub\wwwroot, and I overwrote the files that were in there. Yes, I know now I should have saved them. I didn't even write down what they were (stupid). I also, in IIS manager, hard coded the physical path for Default Web Site to c:\inetpub\wwwroot - it was blank before - and now I can't make it blank again, and when I brows http://localhost all I get is the IIS icon and a redirect to the IIS 7.0 site. The only files that appear in c:\inetpub\wwwroot now are iisstart.htm and welcome.png.

First, am I right that I can put my actual web site files anywhere? Can they even be under my personal userid? I had some access permission errors in trying to restore my SQL database which I thought were related but I've since learned they may not be.

Second, what are the basic files that should be in c:\inetpub\wwwroot right after you enable IIS 7, and how do I get them back?? I really hope I don't have to rebuild my laptop. I'm pretty sure I remember a default.htp a default.aspx (DNN is ASP) - but what should be in them?
