Replacing inetpub folder with a mount point

We want to isolate the entire IIS 7.x installation to a seperate volume but baring moving everything or reinstalling (as several systems are in production) we want to replace the existing inetpub installation folder with a mount point to a seperate volume.

So, I booted the machine into safe mode, renamed the existing folder, create the new folder and mount point, setup permissions identical to the orginal folder and copied the content (robocopy with permissions) to the new mount point directory.

The machine never came online, it sat at the loading windows screen for a good 15 minutes before I finally gave up and shut it down and reverted the change.

Is this possible in IIS 7.x and more importantly, is it supportable?

Redirect All http requests to HTTPS not working !

Hi IIS experts !

I have redirected incoming HTTP requests to HTTPS using Microsoft URL rewriter and using rules in Web.config file in IIS 7.

Now I have another problem.

When a user type https://mywebsite.com it goes to ===> https://mywebsite.com and all broswers throws certificate error, because my certifcate is issued to www.mywebsite.com.

I want all requests goes to https://www.mywebsite.com(Like http://paypal.com) . So that users visiting my site do not get SSL certificate error, I am struggling with it. Any solution ?

Certificate Issues

Hi All,
I've been trying to solve an IIS/Certificate problem for a few days.
I can create a self signed cert and install it on the default website sucessfully.
I have a trial cert from GeoTrust and have sucessfully installed it on another site, but cannot bring up the site in HTTPS.
I have disabled all other sites from using HTTPS/Port 443, but cannot even telnet to port 443.
Can someone guide me in the right direction?

IIS7.5 / NTFS best practice

Sorry if this has been discussed to death but I can't seem to find a straight answer. I'm running Windows Server 2008 R2, IIS 7.5 on a non-domain machine.

I host several sites, some being classic asp some .net stuff, some static and I'm trying to setup some default standard user permissions for each site.

I create a new user on the machine for each site for that site's app pool to run under. My confusion ensues from here. From what I can tell the simple and secure thing to do at this point is to remove this user from the USERS group, and add the created user to the web root dir with modify access.

Should I by default add the IUSR and/or IIS_IUSRS to the NTFS permissions for the web directory?

In the past I havent really paid much attention to doing anything beyond adding the IUSR/WPG (IIS 6) users to have modify access on the folder - but i'd like to make things right.

How to enable client side debugging in IIS7?

I ran the command in dos and voila, I can now debug.

I have gone into the settings for my development website and set client side debugging to true, but all I get is a 500 - Internal server error.

There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed.

It won't show me the line of code where the error is occurring as it used to do with IIS6. I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to debug the program now that it's running on SBS08 and IIS7. Without being able to response.write the variables to the browser, I have to look in the logs to find the error and that is a major PITA.

HTTP.SYS is causing 400 Bad Request when duplicate referer included in the header

Hi,

We have an issue with IIS 7 not processing requests from clients that have multiple (2) referer entries in the header. When called via a Flash component, a second referer is inserted by the PS3 browser.

It seems that IIS itself is not actually receiving the request prior to it being rejected witha 400 Bad Request by http.sys. I have provied this by writing a handler and including it in the site affected. The code never gets reached if multiple referers are included. Instead the 400 is returned.

To prove this I wrote a simple http listener as below. This also exhibits the same behaviour when called with 2 referers. Does anyone have any idea how I can force http.sys to pass the request on without rejecting it for duplicate referers reasons ?

To simulate the request, use the Fiddler Request Builder and build a request as below (change 92 to the port you are listening on):

Outlook Web Access (after login) freezes with no error code

I used IE to try to get into our clients' Outlook Web Access, and was frozen in place until I hit ESC to stop loading forever. No error codes came in.

I used Firefox to do the same thing, and Firefox kicked me out with the following error:

The page isn't redirecting properly

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.



    *   This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept
          cookies.

Before that, I had to uninstall IIS (with WPA also uninstalled) and re-installed everything back to the way it was. Still the same problem. Can someone input some insight or ideas on how to fix it. I am on site, and will probably be on-site tomorrow, but tonight I will be checking this for answers. I will answer any questions that you might have at this point.

Originally, we were focusing on the problem on why remote.foo.com/Remote won't get us into Remote Web Workplace. I discovered two things out of this: it would not turn itself on as a site (via W2K8 Server Console). Second, no matter what I try to do, it still won't let me do it right. I still could use some help with that as well..

IIS7 + ASP.NET 1.1 + Integrated Mode?

Hi everybody! Does anyone knows if its' possible to run asp.net 1.1 in II7 integrated mode?

I tried to configure that but when i start to browse the application I get this:

HTTP Error 500.21 - Internal Server Error Handler "PageHandlerFactory-Integrated" has a bad module "ManagedPipelineHandler" in its module list.

I did some research on this error, but I didn't find a solution.

I have a few apps running in asp.net 1.1 and i would like to do some pre-processing to the requests without touching the app code. I know i can do this with an ISAPI filter in classic mode, but I would like to take advantage of using modules in integrated mode.

Dones any one know any alternative solution? Thanks in advance!
