HI! I finally managed to get access to Windows 2008. It seems that the tools available are different but the basic approach of my previous article still works. Only difference is that you need to use a command tool called appcmd to perform the migration.

Add new website

I have a website built in classic ASP. I have lots of .asp files which only contain <!-- include virtual = "/lib/xyz.asp> and many more # includes.

Now when i try to run my site its gives me an error. I am aware that all those #include files must be pasted under wwwroot with their directory structure intact.

I am currently using windows XP. The website is already deployed on windows 2003 server. In win 2003, when i open IIS i can right click on "Websites" folder and do Add new web site.

Is this possible to do in win xp by changing some configuration. Because in xp every time i add a new website it gets added under default website and the starting point for that website starts from default website. I want the starting point of the website to start from the folder i specified while adding the new virtaual directory in XP.

Is it possible to change the starting point of the web site in XP or allow IIS to support the functionality of adding a new website when i right click on Websites folder in Win XP.

REFURBISHED COMPUTER FROM HELL -- Joy Systems
(Says its Version is 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Build 2600)

However has not ever seemed to have SP3!!

PROBLEM: Microsoft Updates wants me to install the following:
         Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP 3 (KB955706)
         (upgrades all MS SQL Server 2005 Express Edition instances and

components to Service Pack 3 (SP3)

404 errors from \bin directory files after 2k3r2 sp2 and various security patches installed

I am now getting 404 errors from \bin directory files after 2k3r2 sp2 and various security patches were installed. I have multiple w2k3 servers running iis6 with FastCGI 1.5 (x86) RC, and php-5.2.9-2-nts-Win32 Although I do not run asp.net code (the asp.net framework is installed on the server), the servers that were updated now have the following iis isapi filter enabled: ASP.NET_2.0.50727.0C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_filter.dlllow I found/copied the following from http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc782952(WS.10).aspx

Important If you install ASP.NET with IIS 6.0, structure the content of your Web site so that requests for Web site content do not need to contain /bin in the request URL. As a security measure, ASP .NET returns a 404 error for all requests containing /bin in the requested URL.

Can anyone tell me if there is any other benefit/effect to having the ASP.NET_2.0.50727.0 isapi filter enabled that applies to non asp.net pages besides the above mentioned /bin restriction? We are trying to decide between just removing the ASP.NET_2.0.50727.0 isapi filter or keeping it and renaming the /bin directory and changing the corresponding code. Any references to ASP.NET_2.0.50727.0 isapi filter specifics applicable to non asp.net requests would be appreciated. If an iis 5.x & 6.0 General, Extensibility, or ASP.NET Administration forum would be a better place to post this, I do that too. Thanks,Daniel

Problems with ExecuteGlobal in VBScript on IIS 5.1 but not 6.0

What setting might be missing or misapplied that would cause the same code that works on an IIS 6.0 server to fail on an IIS 5.1 server?

I've inherited this large Classic ASP application. It "caches" a series of files with funcitons in them using the ExecuteGlobal command. On both server, the command executes without error. However, when the application later tries to reference the functions that were 'cached', IIS 6.0 seems to work just fine while IIS 5.1 acts as though those functions never existed and I get errors to that effect.

The 5.1 system is for testing purposes on an XP Pro box. The 6.0 is our production system on Windows 2003.

It's taken a long time to isolate the problem (identical code failing in test but working in production) to this code. Setting up another server isn't an option unfortunately (budget restraints - no money to pay the support people or to rent space where all servers must be physically located - military installation).

What directions have I missed looking into?

Dll seems had be exec, but don't do correct action ,

is any limit for socket ? i had close firewall too.

I developed my asp.net project using VS 2008 and it's working fine in my development machine. But when deploy and upload into my web server is a Windows server 2003 web edition with .Net framework 2.0 , 3.5 and 3.5 SP1 installed. the following error occur .

The IIS setting for in server 2003 web edition with ASP.NET version did changed to 2.0.50727.

System.Web.Extensions with version 3.5.0.0 exist in C:\windows\assembly folder as well..

Is anything left beside for the setting above need to check?

But when we try to deploy it into another web server 2003 standard edition, everything is working fine.

Is anyone facing this problem before? and any solution to solved it?

Thank you for answer. It was indeed the application pool´s idle shutdown feature that caused the shut down of the idle processes.

I have now created a new application pool for my RoR site, trying to find settings that give acceptable performance for my application. Avoiding idle timeout of the Ruby processes in my pool helped to some degree but I have so far not been able to prevent the processes from dying after about 120 requests, regardless of the load I put on the IIS. So this is still a major problem.

The typical behaviour when testing the site with low load is a response time, when a ruby process in the pool starts, of 10 seconds. The following consecutive requests render a response in 90-120 ms, until the process dies and starts over. One Ruby process occupies about 35 Mb of memory, and there is plenty of memory on my server to accommodate many Ruby processes at the same time. During my resent tests I have limited the number of instances to 4. (MaxInstances=4)

In my application pool I now run with these settings:

Recycling panel:

Missing Service tab in 6.0

I'm trying to create application pools and know I need to be in worker isolation mode which can be selected in the Service tab. But I have no Service tab available, even though I'm right clicking on the "Web Site" tab/Properties (not individual sites). I'm also using XP Home. The only tabs showing are Directory Securtiy, HTTP Headers, Custom Errors, ASP.NET, ISAPI Filters, Home Directory and Documents.

Desparate for an answer as I'm trying to install DotNetNuke. Did I install IIS wrong to begin with?
