hello everyone, i am absolutely new to IIS and would like to start learning about it, can someone point me in the direction of any beginner tutorials, articles etc about setting up IIS 5.1 on windows XP SP2. Also it would be just for experimenting so i do not want to actually make available or connect to a server so if you can inform me on what settings to use to restrict connections to the Internet. thanks in advance.

Real Life Scenario, would WebDeploy Help?

We have a live web site which has to be live 24x7.... We are currently going through a large rebuild program, and are trying to decide on the best ongoing deployment solution. We regularly have changes which require the site to "recompile" - leading to up to 10 minutes downtime during an update - this is unacceptable. So we need a deployment solution which will lead to a maximum of 1 minutes downtime. So far we think the best way to do this is: 1) set up a 2nd site on the Live IIS 2) Upload all new code to the 2nd site 3) Allow DFS to synchronise all web servers 4) Run recompile on all web servers 5) Test new code/site 6) Manually change IIS to point to the new code rather than the old one. And repeat for each deployment. I can see that webdeploy could help in points 2 & 3 (sync rather than dfs), and possibly 6 to switch over. Are there any other ways that WebDeploy could help, and/or any better/other tools. BTW all running on IIS 6.0 Thanks Argon0

WPI MySQL Connect Error

I posted this issue earlier in the wrong forum.

WPI successfully installed all components including Wordpress. However, after Internal Error 500 on "activating" a premium theme, not being a programmer/developer, I uninstalled WPI installed components and tried Wamp. Wamp was not successful, so reinstalled Wordpress application and components w/WPI. On this second installation with WPI there is a problem w/ MySQL Windows Essential 5.1.

After entering passwords/user names and clicking Continue, the following error message displays:

OS is 32-bit, Vista Business SP2

Only changes on computer between first successful install with WPI and this reinstallation w/occurring MySQL connect error, is install/uninstall of Wamp and Wordpress, and 25 Microsoft updates.

ok so i have installed and uninstalled may apps that use local host like zend, IIS and easyPHP. i decided to install IIS as my Choice (after trying all of them ) but when i installed it and i go localhost it says web page not found.

WPI Applications tab no show...

I am running Windows Vista Ultimate with no service packs. I am successfuly connected to the internet and I am wanting to try and run a small LAN server here at my house.

I would like to be able to use not only ASP.net but also PHP with my small home sites so I have turned to WPI for a great and easy install of PHP on IIS 7.0 for me.

Now that I have it installed I started it up and there is NO Web Applications tab at all; showing up on the GUI. I am running it on a 1gb RAM , with a 40gb hd on it. I don't know if that helps you but I still can not figure out this problem? Do you think if i update my computer to SP1 that this will fix this problem?

I don't really want to update because of my slow internet conection but I will if you all think it would help me any. Thank You in Advance:)

Trouble with Web platform installer 2.0 RC

Hi there, i have just started developing websites on the .NET framework a few months ago - and have to install IIS to use the HTTP file service with visual studio 2008.

Anyway, I have successfully installed the program at this link: http://www.microsoft.com/web/downloads/platform.aspx

but after I run the newly installed application, it just says:
"Please wait while we load the latest web platform products".

I have waited now for over 4 hours, the application has either got a bug, or the server it is requesting is down... i guess.

I have tried making internet explorer my default browser again, i have reinstalled the application, and installed web platform installer 1.0 .msi... and to no avail.

please help.

Unable to install SQL Server 2008 Express w Advanced Services - "Downloaded file failed signature verification and may have been tampered with"
