I'm facing an intermitent problem on a production server. Sometimes fastcgi stops working.

After I use iisreset, everything seems to work fine. I think it happends only on pools that don't have many PHP sites, so the php-cgi.exe reaches the idle timeout, and when a php site is accesses again, the problem happends.

Error page:

FastCGI Error

The FastCGI Handler was unable to process the request.

Error Details:

The FastCGI process exceeded configured activity timeout
Error Number: 258 (0x80070102).
Error Description: The wait operation timed out.

HTTP Error 500 - Server Error.
Internet Information Services (IIS)

fcgiext.ini:

I can reproduce this error by killing the php-cgi.exe process of an specific apppool and accessing a php website of this pool, or access a php site an apppool that haven't any php-cgi.exe processes.

Using sysinternals processxp, I can see the process being spawned, and finished after displaying that error page, when the php page is accessed.

I use:

Windows 2003 SP2 32bits
IIS6.0
fcgiext 1.5
PHP 5.2.5

FastCGI, php & IIS on WinXP - file not found Virtual Directories issue

I have a number of sites (virtual directories) set up in IIS5 on Win XP Pro (with SP3). Until I installed FastCGI, they all worked fine - no problems. Now, as long as I don't request a .php page, they work fine, if I request a .php page, I get a HTTP 404 - file not found error.

After trying Process Monitor, I discovered that the .php pages start in the correct directory as specified in IIS, but end up in the default directory (C:/inetpub/wwwroot/<sitename>).

What needs to happen to make FastCGI behave? (If I move my site to a folder in the default directory, it all works fine, but that's not what I want to do

Any ideas?

Hi To All....

I am a junior system administrator.In my office environment they are developing php based websites using xammp tool.Xammp tool uses apache to host the website.

What my problem is "to host the xammp developed websites under IIS" instead of Apache web server.

To do this ,I have installed fastcgi application & php 5.2.8 on my 2003 server (test purpose).As mentioned in the article in iis.net I have configured the php.ini file.

In the IIS.net artical it has been tolld that to map fcgiext.dll which is preseted in inetsrv.but if i do like this it is showing the error "fast cgi error".Even the php.info file is also unable to browse.

Instead of this I mapped the php extension in iis configuraion by adding php-cgi.exe,If I do like this I am able to browse php.info and a sample .php page (which is placed in wwwroot folder)but including some errors like below

I am struggling from last 3 days to solve this issue but not succeeded.Anybody got this error ever before,if enyone know how to solve this issue please tell me why this error occuring and how to resolve it.is that any configuration mistake or to add any more extensions...Thanks for any help.

I have a 32bit 2003 STD R2 SP2 server running FastCGI and PHP 5.2.6. There are two IIS Sites running, each with their own application pool and identity. One site is running WordPress and the other is running PHPMyAdmin. When the server first starts or IIS is reset, the site which is hit first runs fine. The other site will get this error:

FastCGI Error

The FastCGI Handler was unable to process the request.

Error Details:

The FastCGI process exited unexpectedly
Error Number: -2 (0xfffffffe).
Error Description: Unknown Error

HTTP Error 500 - Server Error.

I have done the following in my attempt to resolve this issue:

Reset IIS, and load the site which was throwing the FastCGI error (PHPMyAdmin) before the site that wasn't (WordPress). The PHPMyAdmin site worked fine but the WordPress site did not.
Reset IIS and did the exact opposite as above (loaded WordPress before PHPMyadmin) and the exact opposite result was achieved (WordPress worked but PHPMyAdmin did not).
Checked permissions for all directories in concern (c:\php; c:\windows\system32\inetsrv; respective website directories). All permissions were fine, as I suspected because the sites do work if they load first.
Ran c:\php\php-cgi.exe d:\websitelocation\phpscript.php for both sites and the proper result was returned.
Cussed and screamed at the server, PHP, and FastCGI and the expected result was achieved (the vein in my forehead nearly popping). :-)
Checked FastCGI config file (fcgiext.ini) against the documentation here: http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/248/configuring-fastcgi-extension-for-iis60/.
Configured FastCGI with separate settings for each website. Same result.

I may have forgotten one or two things I have tried but I think I got them all.

HiGuys,

I've been struggling with this for over 2 days now and I've spent more that 9 hours today on trying to find this bug.

Here is the deal:

I get a 500 error (unspecified) at complete random times. I've hit the server so hard with requests (using apache bench btw), I've done over 100.000 requests to the website, and everything runs just fine. (Although the load is going sky high on this dual xeon 3ghz machine).

Then when I think I finally got everything stable as it should, I get the stupid 500 error again.

The data is:

FastCGI Error
The FastCGI Handler was unable to process the request.

Error Details:

* The FastCGI process has failed frequently recently. Try the request again in a while
* Error Number: -2147467259 (0x80004005).
* Error Description: Unspecified error

HTTP Error 500 - Server Error.
Internet Information Services (IIS)

All requests go to 1 scripts which then issues a fopen http post to another (can be different scripts depending on the query params given to the first script) script using cURL.

The contents of my ini file:

I've have InstanceMaxRequests up to 10000 too, butno avail.

This is driving me crazy since I can't reproduce the error.

I can provide you with more info, just tell me what you need to know, so we can fix this error / misconfiguration.

Server config:

dual xeon 3ghz with HT

2gb ram

iis 6.0 running on win2k3 web

php 5.2.6 non thread safe fast cgi module

I installed Fast CGI and now I'm getting this error whenever I go to a php page:

FastCGI Error
The FastCGI Handler was unable to process the request.

Error Details:

* Error Number: 5 (0x80070005).
* Error Description: Access is denied.

HTTP Error 500 - Server Error.
Internet Information Services (IIS)

Here's my fcgiext.ini

[Types]
php=PHP

[PHP]
ExePath=C:\PHP\php-cgi.exe

I have also added the following line to my php.ini (per another post I found here):

fastcgi.impersonate = 1

Each time I made any change to fcgiext.ini or php.ini I restarted IIS. Nothing I have done has worked to get this running.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Goodmorning.

I'm having a problem with the installation of FastCGI-32 extension on my server which has IIS 6. [server OS: Windows Server 2003 R2 Standart Edition SP2]

I get the following error at the exact moment the installation bar reaches the end:

"There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor."

If someone has met such an error or has any suggestions please answer.
