FTP 7.5 SSL disconnects after 15 minutes. Large Files

I am having the oddest issue so I hope somone has an idea.

Backstory: 3 different ISP's, 2 different physical servers, 1 2008 server and now 2008R2. This is a dedicated FTP server. 2008R2, FTP Role, local firewall off, hardware firewall ports open, and trying to upload anything over about 65MB the connection will reset and start to upload again from 0. On the downloads, same thing but it resumes from where it left off. This issue has happened every time both on 7.0 and 7.5

I have an official SSL cert (not self-signed) using FTPES explicit. Connections/Authentications are good and smaller files upload just fine.

I have adjusted .config files for size limits as some of the forums have suggested but that didn't work.

FileZilla just blips and does the reconnect, no error message. I can't find anything in FTP logs either.

Does anyone have a clue or could point me in where I can get some better logging?

New setup (500 - Internal server error)

I've setup IIS 7.5 on a server for my company. We've been operating with IIS 5 for years without issue.

I copied several sites from one server to the other, then setup them up as in IIS 5. When I try to access via HTTP I end up with "500 - Internal server error message" when trying to access site.

I can ping domain and IP is correct and can also reach default site on the server.

Error message on server indicates a possible missing xml file and or bad path but all looks well.

Can anyone suggest ideas.

Cannot Add/Edit Application Extension Mapping - OK button disabled

I'm trying to edit or add a mapping and the OK button is greyed out, i.e. disabled. I've been scouring these forums and blogs for days for a solution.

Anybody have any clue how to bring life back to this button so I can edit or add a mapping?

This situation exists on the Web Sites fold, the Default Web Site folder, or any Application I create. The button is just dead.

WCF - Enable compression for XML / JSON

Hi once again,

I have come to my attention that ySlow says my xml responses are not compressed within my restful WCF service.

Seen loads of info on creating compression channels etc, but figured IIS7 where the WCF service is hosted should be able to do it by itself via dynamic compression and probably a mimetype.

Reading other forums some say it can be done, some say it can't, so I'm seeking The One true answer (besides 42 ofcourse) to this question.

What I do know, or think I know atleast:

Content-Type: application/xml; charset=utf-8
Server: Microsoft-IIS/7.0

applicationHost.config seems to be the place to setup this kind of stuff, would rather like it in my web.config tough.

 I got the section

            <dynamicTypes>
                <add mimeType="application/xml" enabled="true" />  added by me
                <add mimeType="text/*" enabled="true" />
                <add mimeType="message/*" enabled="true" />
                <add mimeType="application/x-javascript" enabled="true" />
                <add mimeType="*/*" enabled="false" />
            </dynamicTypes>

But does no good, in the website that hosts the WCF the following is in the web.config

<urlCompression doDynamicCompression="true" />

 Seen arguments saying it should be

<urlCompression doDynamicCompression="false" dynamicCompressionBeforeCache="true" />

but neither work for me.

So I'm really hoping someone got a clear as day solution to enable my responses to accept compression, maybe even enabling deflate aswell as gzip.

access to the path C:\inetpub\wwwroot\x\y.ext is denied

Hi All, wise iis and .net gurus.
I got a problem. I do a simple thing, upload files to server. I just paste a upload control and then call to the "saveAs" method of that control. Easy. The trouble is that it works too good in a development enviroment, but it fails when I deploy it to the production server.
I already give permissions to the {computersName}\ASPNET user, I already write in web.config < identity impersonate="true" /> and it is inside the correct section (system.web)..
I always try to find the solution in older post before I post the same question, but every post I have found say that I already did: give permisions to ASPNET user or impersonate ASP. I have try impersonate with another users, the computer administrator, and nothing happens I almost get crazy with this, I have stuck by hours.
So, anybody knows something that I could missed? . I upload the files to a directory that is not the same that the application: The app is in C:\inetpub\wwwroot\A\ and I upload to C:\inetpub\wwwroot\X\
I am just start to think if I should make an exorcism to the server, but I don't know if would work. .

Programatic install of managed module: "...missing a section declaration"

I am trying to programtically install a managed module that I wrote into IIS 7.0 on a Windows 2008 Server 32-bit system. I get the following error:

Unhandled Exception: System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80070490): Filename: \\?\C:\Windows\system32\inetsrv\config\applicationHost.config
Error: The configuration section 'system.webserver/modules' cannot be read because it is missing a section declaration.

The code is as follows:

ServerManager mgr = new ServerManager();

Microsoft.Web.Administration.Configuration config;

Microsoft.Web.Administration.ConfigurationSection section;

Microsoft.Web.Administration.ConfigurationElementCollection modules;

Microsoft.Web.Administration.ConfigurationElement tapModule;

config = mgr.GetApplicationHostConfiguration();section = config.GetSection("system.webserver/modules");

modules = section.GetCollection();

It is the config.GetSection() call that is generating the exception. What am I doing wrong here? I have not touched the applicationHost.config file, so why would it be invalid?

Missing Service tab in 6.0

I'm trying to create application pools and know I need to be in worker isolation mode which can be selected in the Service tab. But I have no Service tab available, even though I'm right clicking on the "Web Site" tab/Properties (not individual sites). I'm also using XP Home. The only tabs showing are Directory Securtiy, HTTP Headers, Custom Errors, ASP.NET, ISAPI Filters, Home Directory and Documents.

Desparate for an answer as I'm trying to install DotNetNuke. Did I install IIS wrong to begin with?

Solution: PHP SOAP Service Does Not Return Soap Fault Response

The experts here might have a better way, but this is a solution I found:

I was having trouble getting my PHP SOAP service to return Soap Fault responses to remote clients. The service only gave trouble on my Vista Ultimate development machine, running IIS7 with PHP and FastCGI. A hosted production server running IIS6 never exhibited this problem.

Soap Faults are given a HTTP 500 status code, and return an XML envelope containing the fault information. When I ran PHP test code on my server, it worked every time. But when I tried accessing the service using the MS SOAP Toolkit 3.0 on another computer, it failed every time, generating a generic '500 - Internal server error.' response.

After lots of searching, and use of the IIS7 Tracing module, I found that my IIS configuration needed tweaking.

In the applicationHost.config file, I added a errorMode="Detailed" attribute to the httpErrors element for my web service application pool. That fixed it.

You can also set this attribute in the IIS Manager interface:

In the Connections pane, select the server or site to modify
Under Features View in the central window, open the Error Pages feature
In Error Pages, click Edit Feature Settings... (far right in the Actions pane)
In the Error Responses option, select Detailed Errors
Click OK

In this configuration, detailed error responses will be returned for remote requests, and custom error configuration is disabled. This may not be ideal for production servers, as this will expose underlying responses to the public for all HTTP error codes, when SOAP faults just need code 500.

I am documenting this issue so I can easily find it again. Perhaps this may help others.

How do I reference a site by ID using IIS7 APPCMD?

I know how to reference a site by name to stop and start it? For example:


appcmd stop site /site.name:"Microsoft SharePoint Administration"

How do I reference a site using its IIS ID? I tried these variations:


 appcmd start stop /site.id:2
 appcmd start stop /site.id:"2"
 appcmd start stop /site.id:2
 appcmd start site /section:sites /[id='2']

However they all return the following error:


ERROR ( message:Must specify the SITE object with identifier. )
