Registering ASP.net v2.x with IIS5.1 on Windows XP

I have read numerous tutorals, and when I attempt to run the following suggested command from the cmd line, my computer tells me it cannot find the specified path....which makes no sense. the path is correct.

%windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\vxxxxxx\aspnet_regiis.exe -i

regsvr32 %windir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\vxxxxxx\aspnet_isapi.dll

of course replacing the vxxxxetc with my v2x number.

Even when I use the complete path starting at c:\Windows...etc.

Why would it tell me that it can't find the path, when the path is correct, and the specified folder is where it's supposed to be. I don't get it.

Any assistance would be appreciated. WCW

Hi all, I'm also having this problem and none of the suggestions I've read about here and other forums on the web have worked.

I've tried doing both aspnet_regiis -ga ASPNET and aspnet_regiis -ga MACHINENAME\ASPNET as well as uninstall and reinstall (-u and -i options respectively) to no avail.

I've also uninstalled and installed the .NET framework. I've also checked the ASPNET account has access to the relevant folder and even the IIS metabase.bin file.

The only thing that worked is if I add the ASPNET user account to the Administrators group. Now this doesn't seem to be right to me. Any ideas on how I can refine this a little further so that I don't have to grant full blown access to the ASPNET account?

Any help much appreciated.

.Net Framework Version getting changed on websites but not sure how

Running IIS 6 on Windows Server 2003.

Several times in the last month websites have sudden'y stopped working. After much digging we have found that somehow the version of the .Net Framework the website has been using gets changed from 1.1 to 2.0. We are running websites with both frameworks on the same server and we have set up the application pools for the different versions. I am just wondering if anyone would have any clue as to why or how this setting could get changed. Was it because someone restarted IIS or because someone configures a new website or because maybe we need some patches. I am just looking for anything to point me in a direction. As we do no have a IIS Guru to help us through this.

Unable to view IIshelp using localhost.

Hello all,

I am unable to view iis help using "http://localhost/iishelp" .I get thhe following error :

Server Application ErrorThe server has encountered an error while loading an application during the processing of your request. Please refer to the event log for more detail information. Please contact the server administrator for assistance

I am using IIs 5.1.

In fact , I am unable to view any .aspx/.asp pages using virtual directory mapping feature of IIS.However if , try to run(Ctrl + F5) any websit using Visual Studio, I am able to see the output. Someone Kindly help me on this

I keep running into this same problem, and I never find a solution other than just creating a separate website.

I always get errors when creating an asp.net virtual directory inside of another asp.net site. I have found many blogs with work around to remove things like http modules and I belive another about surrounding the system.web portion with <location> with a parameter of something like donotinheritparent=true.

None of the things I have found work, I try and try but never get the sub app to run. Of course every time I have tried this, they have been completely different apps, occasionally targeting different frameworks.

Would I be right to say that this can’t be done, if we assume that the child config cannot inherit anything from the parent to work?

ASP.NET Website Users Fail to Access Website

I developed one Intranet based ASP.NET 2.0 Website. I hosted website on a Server running WIndows XP Professional and IIS 6.0. Website was running fine from last 2 months but suddenly it start failing because of some unknown reasons. Sometimes it works fine but sometimes clients fail to browse website. Currently i have been forced to restart IIS everytime clients complaint me about the error. I want to know how to fix this problem. Please help urgently.

Unable to import RSA key container using aspnet_regiis and "pi" option

I am unable to import an RSA key container from an XML file using aspnet_regiis -pi. Here is the exact command that I am using:

aspnet_regiis -pi "MyKeystore" C:\dev\keys.xml

This does not throw any errors when run from the command line. Instead, it displays the full list of options similar to what would happen if I had entered an invalid option. I'm using "C:\WINNT\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\aspnet_regiis". Am I entering the command incorrectly, or is my .NET installation corrupted?

How to set up asp.net on IIS XP Pro

Ok, I am running windows vista on my laptop, i also have an XP pro Virtual Machine with IIS set up on it. I can host regular .html sites, but how can I configure it properly to host asp.net apps. (.aspx).

trying to run *.aspx files results in 401.3 / 401.1

Hi, I've run into an annoying problem on our Win2k3 IIS 6.0 production server, we've had this server running for a couple of years now, and only now we have a customer that is trying to run *.aspx files, but when he does it prompts for a user and pass (but anon access should be allowed), so it results in a 401.3 error or a 401.1 error (depending on if you hit esc or try any username/pass combo for a user on the server, even admin)

This ONLY happens with *.aspx files though, *.asp, *.php, or any other I can think of run fine. I have scoured the internet and haven't found an exact situation of my issue, and all of the closest ones I've had no luck with

The computer is not on a domain

Heres what I've tried so far:

- Reapplied permissions on the given root web folder for the site for IUSR_<our servers name> account

- Confirmed that The sites app pool is running as the network_service account

- Reinstalled .net framework 2.0

From my research the main difference seems that this only happens with aspx files.

Any help on this billionth occuring 401.x problem would be appreciated.

Pre-caching images

We have a problem when first accessing our web application: loading all the images that compose the application is too slow.

It looks like it takes two hits to disk in order to get the bunch of images needed, as you can see in this IIS log:

The first request to load the page is at 15:03:01, a bunch of files is transferred, but then there is a gap and the rest of files are only transferred at 15:03:47.

Further accesses to the web application are fast, I assume because all those images are already cached in memory by IIS.

I wonder if we could pre-cache or something those files, in order to have a fast access even the first time.

If not, whenever we change an ASPX o DLL file in the web site, next access to it experiences this problem.

Our server is running Windows 2003 Server, with IIS 6.0 and .NET Framework 2.0.
