.Net Framework Version getting changed on websites but not sure how

Running IIS 6 on Windows Server 2003.

Several times in the last month websites have sudden'y stopped working. After much digging we have found that somehow the version of the .Net Framework the website has been using gets changed from 1.1 to 2.0. We are running websites with both frameworks on the same server and we have set up the application pools for the different versions. I am just wondering if anyone would have any clue as to why or how this setting could get changed. Was it because someone restarted IIS or because someone configures a new website or because maybe we need some patches. I am just looking for anything to point me in a direction. As we do no have a IIS Guru to help us through this.

Problems with asp.net 1.1 site and classic pipeline

Hi, I am having some problems getting an asp.net 1.1 site to run under iis 7, server 2008 64bit. I am receiving the error "Request is not available in this context" which apparently can be caused by running in the context of an integrated pipeline. However this is not the case for this site. I have successfully configured asp.net 1.1 to run under IIS 7 as per instructions elsewhere on this site. I have created an application pool specific to the site, configured to use 1.1, with classic pipeline and 32bit applications enabled. The configuration is identical to another .Net 1.1 based site on the same server that I have been running without problems. In fact both sites are running on an identical code base. The working site will definitely be executing the same code as that of the failing site. While IIS reports that the application pool is configured to run in classic pipeline mode, interestingly when selecting the application pool for the site none of the .Net 1.1 pools display pipeline mode like the others. I am not sure if this matters, but it implies that perhaps the classic pipeline mode is not being applied to the .Net 1.1 pools, or it is not 'sticking' for the new pool. The applicationHost.config has all the expected values with respect to pool configuration. Also, the line at which the code is failing is not within the scope of global application start and the site runs without error on 2003/IIS6. I am at a loss as to how I can proceed at this point.

ASP.NET configuration error

I have just installed ASP.NET 1.1. OS is XP with SP 2. IIS is 7.0. I have installed IIS but I couldn't browse it says the following error " This error (HTTP 500 Internal Server Error) means that the website you are visiting had a server problem which prevented the webpage from displaying." when I tried to create web application or web service it gives the following error, "The web server reported the following error when attempting to create or open web project located at the following URL http://localhost/WebService1 'HTTP/1.1 500 Server Error'" can anybody help me Thanks

Troubleshooting misbehaving application pools

Hi,

I was wondering whether there are some general guidelines or best practices for troubleshooting misbehaving applications on a shared application-pool scenario.

I'm currently hosting around 50 sites all residing on a single app pool (1.1 framework) and it seems that from time to time the app pool hangs probably due to some code in the web site. I've been unsuccesful trying to pinpoint the site that is probablly causing the hang.

I did notice that around the time the sites suddenly become unavailable there's an asp.net request queue starting. I thought about isolating the web sites each on it's own app pool but was wondering if there are any best practices for this type of troubleshooting.

Side-by-Side (multiple framework) Support in ASP.NET

Hi,

I'm running several WS2003 with framework 1.1 & 2.0 side by side.

I couldn't find any best practices for such a configuration apart from the below article:

I'm quite concerned about the outcome of running a large amount of sites (approx. 80-100 sites)

some framework 2.0 and others framework 1.1 on the same server.

Anyone have experience/recommendations for such a case?

Service restart when switching ASP.Net versions

Hi All,

I have an IIS server 6 on a win 2000 machine on which is installed both .NET 1.1 & 2.0 and every time I create a web site it defaults the site to 1.1. This would be fine but I’ve noticed that when I go to switch the version of the site to 2.0 in MMC in the ASP.NET tab the entire W3 service does a restart bringing down every site we have on the server. There are a large number of sites on the server and it can take up to 20 seconds for the service to recycle and for some reason not every site comes back up (leaving a Service Unavailable message) and it takes someone to go and manually restart the web site before it can.

So I was just wandering whether anyone else had noticed this? Is there a way to get all new web sites to default to 2.0 rather than 1.1 and if not is there a way to swap the site from 1.1 to 2.0 without the service restart.

Web service fails on one IIS site but works on another on the same box.

Hello,

We have a .Net 1.1. web service installed on a win 2k box. The server has 2 IIS sites (both sites are pointing to different IP addresses) and both of these IIS sites have a asp.net 1.1. website and web service installed on them.

The web service on the second IIS site fails to work. When invoking the web methods from a web browser it returns a "?" and IIS logs a 500 error. Initially I thought this must be a web service problem (though the web service works fine on dev and test environments) but I later realised that the first IIS site already has a web service installed, and that works fine, so I decided to move the web service that was causing the errors to the first IIS site. It works when it's on the first IIS site!! Unfortunately I need it on the other site (ip address). :(

I'm presuming the problem is with one of the configurations of the IIS site but I don't know what could cause this problem. All the settings also seem correct - the configuration on the home directory is the same as the first site. Anybody got any ideas on how to fix this problem? Any help would be much appreciated.

Hosting .NET 1.1 and 2.0 applications under IIS 5.1

We are evaluating the migration of out web application from .NET 1.1 to 2.0. Is it possible to have both 1.1 and 2.0 web applications under the same IIS 5.1?

How would you move a ASP.Net Website from one server to another?

First off this ASP.Net Website only works with version 1.1.432. And I don't want to go threw the hassle of upgrading it to 2.0 honestly. I had a hard enuf time just getting it to work in the first place. And now I need to move it to another server, lol. Oh well.

Both servers are running IIS 6.0 & ASP.Net 1.1.432 & 2.0. I copied over all the files. I looked at the IIS Configurations between the 2 servers and they seem to be the same. When I try to browse to the website on the new server. I get this error.

HTTP Error 404 - File or directory not found.

I tried the asp.net forums, no luck there yet.

Problem with creating a new web project in asp 1.1

My system has the O.S Win Xp Prof

First I installed the asp 2.0 and it's running successfully.

But next i have to do a project in asp 1.1 . So I installed it and when I tried to create a new project it gives the following error message.

Visual studio .net has detected that the specified web server is not running asp.net version 1.1. You will be unable to run Asp.Net Web Applications and Services

I have no asp 1.0 version .

The projects which are already in asp 2.0 are working fine.

For this I done a lot of work like

1.Shut down ALL applications
2. Uninstall IIS 5.1
3. Uninstall .NET FrameWork 1.1
4. Reboot
5. Install IIS 5.1
6. Reboot
7. Install .NET Framework 1.1
8. Reboot

9. aspnet_regiis.exe -i

10.aspnet_regiis.exe –r

11. Reboot

But I am still getting the error.

Plz Help me.

I am working on thism issue from the last 3 days.
