I'm thinking of making a web application using VS2008 but I don't know if it is possible to configure IIS to make it work. Suppose I have the contoso.com domain, the app needs to do the following:

if a user navigates to www.bob.contoso.com, the page displays: "Hello Bob". I don't know the user's name in advance and the pageaddress should remain as it was typed.

Any ideas?

I have a serious problem and could use some help. I have taken over an application that was written in .net 1.1 and is using Nhibernate to connect to DB2 on the AS400. The problem I have is that whenever the seesion is over or abandoned the connect stays established to the port on the AS400 port 8471. By right around 4:30 pm I actually run out of user ports on my w2k3 machine ( user ports are 1025 - 5000 by default). I have added MaxUserPort and changed it to 65534. But that does not fix my underlying problem of all these abandoned Open ports. I can get the sessionid but is there anyway to correlate the ports being opened to the sessionid so I can manually close them when the session is ended. Or is there any code I can put in my Global.asax to kill or close the ports associated with that session. I have sent weeks on this issue and it will only get bigger. I have thought about changing for inproc to stateserver or sqlserver that way I can recycle the w3wp.exe in the memory pool without kicking everone off the server, but the original programmer serialized everything within the code, and I don't klnow what will happen to Nhibernate if I remove serilization from the code and change the state . Thanks for all you help .

I have to Upload a file which is upto 10MB(only rtf or text files). i am using fileupload component and i am able to recieve the file as httpPostedFile. But the problem for me is when i tried to read the contents and post it to Database, Then server throws out of memory Exception.

Quite interestingly this does not happens in Developer machines but this happens in production enviornment. i am using StringBuilder to read the content. Here string builder is created and read the contents. But when i am adding it as a sqlparameters i have to read the contents and make it to string[]. That is where it throws the exception.

Anyone have any idea about how to solve this issue?.

I had finished building a a blog on my XP machine, running IIS5. The blog is very simple. It uses ASP along with an Access Database.

I got a machine put together that I want to run this blog from. It is running Sever 2003 and has IIS6 installed.

I moved everything over to the new machine. The directory structure was all the same.

The main page would display blog entries already in the database.

I would go to log in and I got an error stating that "../" is not an accepted path. This was the path to the Database. I changed the path and next time I tried my login screen appeared.

I typed in the username and password properly and I received an error stating something about not being able to find a registry entry that had to do with jet (sorry, I can't recall the exact wording at the moment). I googled it and got rid of the error by granting IUSR permissions to the ODBC registry files.

Then when I tried again, after entering the username and password I received this error:

[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] '(unknown)' is not a valid path. Make sure that the path name is spelled correctly and that you are connected to the server on which the file resides.

I do have Access installed. IUSR does have all of the proper permissions. I haven't been able to find a solution to this problem.

Are there incompatibilities between IIS5 & 6? Is there anything simple I can do to make this work? If not, I don't mind taking the difficult route.

Thanks for reading and your potential help :)

Re: IIS URL redirect to a particular directory

<cs:applicationKey>general--1</cs:applicationKey>

try this out

This has led to the question: "Is there an update to Server Extensions that provides for framework 2.0 applications?" Maybe this update has been applied to the server in production and not in dev?

Any other ideas (or solutions) are welcome. :)

Thanks,
Andrew

asp.net/sessions Active perf counter showing large value

<cs:applicationKey>general--1</cs:applicationKey>

Hello,

I am running websites on IIS 6.0 on Windows 2003 Standard, VmWare guest with .Netframework 3.5SP1.

The (ASP.NET version 2.0.50727) is showing a 'ASP.NET Applications / Sessions Active' to be a high value of > 4294967114 and higher, i am seeing this on several different apps running on different servers with same framework, is there any known bug in Framework 3.5SP1,

This value clears after the IISrecycle, but after few hours this counter is back to this large number, we are sure we dont have that many user sessions, and concurrent connects are around 70 to 100 on each box in the web farm. is there any reason why we are seeing this large active session value.

Any help?

Thanks
