REFURBISHED COMPUTER FROM HELL -- Joy Systems
(Says its Version is 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Build 2600)

However has not ever seemed to have SP3!!

PROBLEM: Microsoft Updates wants me to install the following:
         Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP 3 (KB955706)
         (upgrades all MS SQL Server 2005 Express Edition instances and

components to Service Pack 3 (SP3)

-----The download is done however it will not install!---------

REASON: MS Internet Information Services (IIS) is not installed

Problem installing Web Platform Installer

I'm not able to run the wpilauncher_n.exe installer (version 7.1.611.0), the following error appears

The Web Platform Installer could not start. Please report the following error on the Web Platform Installer forum.

But no error appears in this messages :)

I'm running windows XP, with Visual studio 2008 installed, and Microsoft sql server and more.

Can anyone help me with this.

I tried to install IIS to MS Windows XP Pro SP3, but it was unsuccessful. After beginning of installation (through "Add or Remove Programs" in "Control Panel") application demand some dlls (for example: staxmem.dll) in the directory "c:\windows\ServicePackFiles\i386". But application wrote that "cannot copy the file".

How to install IIS?

Hi, on this site claimed that WPI 2.0 will install the latest version of SQL Server 2008 Express with Service Pack 1. But after end of the installation I've checked versions of SQL Server on Microsoft Update Site and received result that no Service Pack 1 installed. So, can you check, why WPI 2.0 RTM doesn't install version with Service Pack and we need to download and install them separately? Thanks. Windows XP Pro SP3 + all updates.

I downloaded wpilauncher.exe v2.0 RC. Absolutely nothing happens when I double click the downloaded file. I searched through the forum, based on this search, I tried changing the "machine.config" file in C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\CONFIG\ . I copied and renamed "machine.config.default" to "machine.config". This did not help, although I am not entirely certain that was the correct approach in the first place.

Specs: XP pro, service pack 3. I have versions 1, 1.1, 2, 3, and 3.5 of the .net framework (if that matters at all) I have already installed Visual Web Developer 2008 Express and Visual Basic 2008 Express.

Powershell/Mgmt Studio Express won't install on XP Pro

Hi Andrew

As I said before, I and thousands like me don't get installation media any more as our machines come pre-installed with Windows.

Fortunately, when reading the documentation for Visual Web Developer (sorry, I should have done this first), I find you don't need IIS to test web pages on your local machine.

Perhaps you can put a note to this effect next to the Web Server option when choosing Web Platform components from within the Web Platform Installer application? Something like "to install IIS you will need the original XP discs". This will avoid a lot of headaches for new users trying to install IIS when they don't really need it.

Thanks again for your help. I look forward to writing my first .net application

I extracted the files from the XP SP2 exe file (WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2.exe) using the following command: >D:\WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe /integrate:D:\WinXP (I have a partitioned harddrive with D: as data)

I point the installer to D:/WinXP/i386 but it can't find admxprox.dll or admxprox.dl_ When I navigate to the folder D:/WinXP and look at the files there are lots of other files there (eg admwprox.dl_), but not admxprox.dl_

Thanks for your quick reply.

I've installed IE8 and now the Web Installer Platform runs OK.

Problem 2 is now its asking for files from the XP SP2 disc, which I've installed to a directory on my machine. Everything goes OK until we get to the file admxprox.dll which I can't find anywhere in the XP SP2 installation disc or in my windows directory. From reading posts in other forums I believe that this may be on the original XP disc. As I'm sure you;re well aware, most people don;t get any discs with their machines any more as Windows is preinstalled (as is my version). Is there anywhere else that I can get hold of the necessary files?
