Raid Swap = Email Program Lag ...?

I have this ridiculous problem, and would appreciate your thoughts.

Summary:

We have a simple (ASP.NET) email program that 1) Queries the MSSQL database for valid names and emails. Then 2) Sends an email to each email.
For the last 2-3 years, this has taken 5-10 minutes to run.
On 11/15 one of the hard drives failed during a windows update (or check?)
On the 11/19 at 6:09 AM, The hard drive and raid driver was swapped (after some difficulty). The rebuild apparently didn't work. The drive took 3 tries to rebuild (over the next 4 days).
Since that date, our email program now takes 45-70 minutes to run.

I have had the server guys and ASP.NET guys look over everything, and "nothing's wrong"

To keep this short, I will just say: I need to fix this, and appreciate any thoughts you may have.

w3wp.exe process hangs server after few hours

Hi,

I have windows 2003 server standard edition SP2 running with IIS services. On starting, the w3wp.exe process consumes about 12-16000 K of memory as shown in the task manager After few hours of running the w3wp.exe process when the memory usages reaches 29-30000 K, the process hangs the server. the only possible solution is to either restart the server where all the users have to relogin or another aption is to kill the process. On killing the process, the w3wp.exe starts automatically immediately. this is a temperory solution. I tried replacing the w3wp.exe file from another server and also isolated & scanned the whole server for viruses, but the problem still persists. please help resolving this issue permanently

Issue with IIS communicating to File Server UNC Share

We have a re-occuring error on our IIS web server farm event logs.

The current setup is that we have 6 web servers on IIS6 and Windows 2003 connecting to the same set of ASP pages stored on a Windows 2008 File Server using a UNC Share (ip address). The error is occurs for different ASP pages as follows:

Warning Event ID 9

Warning: ASP: UNC Access failed for file - \\10.0.0.4\PRODUCTION SERVER\V6\PORTLETS\PORTLET-SPACER.ASP with the error = -2147024832.

Error Event ID 5

Error: ASP: UNC Access failed for file - \\10.0.0.4\PRODUCTION SERVER\V6\WWW\372\1001127\3243165.ASP with the error = -2147024832.

The errors occur at random intervals about 1-2 times a day on average On the website the user may experience a message Network Path Not Found. The error can occur for a few seconds or several minutes and sometimes during peak load and after hours. It is as if the File Server can not be found on the network for a short period of time. However on the File Server there are no error messages whatsoever. I have seen this error occuring more as we add more websites and the websites get busier.

So it may suggest some kind of bottleneck but the network bandwidth is still under 15% utilisation on a Gb network with 2 switches. We don't use DNS on the internal network. It is fairly simple with every server on the same subnet 10.0.0.x and communicating via ip addresses. This error has plagued us for a few years now. In that time we migrated from Windows 2003 storage Server to Windows 2008 for our File Server.

We have changed to HP Pro Curve Switches. We have virtualised IIS and File servers into VMWare 3.5. We have replaced all the network cables with Cat6 and all replaced the hardware on all physical ESX servers. So anyone trying to point to a network card/switch issue I can safely say that is not the problem. I have configured the recommended settings for UNC Sharing (i.e. MaxCmds etc.) for both File Server and IIS machines.

Pretty much I have exhausted every possible suggestion or recommendation to try to troubleshoot this problem but it still keeps occuring. Does anyone here have the expertise to help?

IISADMPWD , Security Issue: any user can change other user password

Hi,

I am using IIS6 / iisadmpwd module to give user option to change there password via web.

But the issue is that any user can change other user password , for example

John can change smith's password if he knows his password. (In our orgnaization, we have one common password for all users)

How to restrict users to change there account password only ?

Reinstalling / Resetting OWA in IIS6.0

- But it did not helped - rebooting the server is my only solution yet.

The error I get when calling the OWA URL is : (which is IIS 6.0 related)
Connection to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx was interrupted while loading the page.

Is reinstalling IIS the only left solution / alternative ?

As for the error I do use basicstate.com website watch and get many errors as the website is not responding, then responds again.

I believe the IIS process is not recycled properly. But have no clue why !

The assembly 'CheckboxValidator' could not be loaded

I developed my asp.net project using VS 2008 and it's working fine in my development machine. But when deploy and upload into my web server is a Windows server 2003 web edition with .Net framework 2.0 , 3.5 and 3.5 SP1 installed. the following error occur .

The IIS setting for in server 2003 web edition with ASP.NET version did changed to 2.0.50727.

System.Web.Extensions with version 3.5.0.0 exist in C:\windows\assembly folder as well..

Is anything left beside for the setting above need to check?

But when we try to deploy it into another web server 2003 standard edition, everything is working fine.

Is anyone facing this problem before? and any solution to solved it?

IIS 6.0 not responding

I run an IIS6.0 on WS2003 RC2 SP2 for and only for Exchange OWA.

The Outlook Web Access is only up for 15 to 30min then goes down for an hour and comes back up many times during the days. This is an ongoing problem for the past 2 weeks.

The exchange server is working fine but I wonder is the IIS is configured correctly.

Windows Authentication Failing in IIS with IE8

I have a Windows 2003 machine running IIS and I have set up a test website which has Integrated Windows Authentication enabled on it. I then try to access this website from another machine in the same domain. I am logged into this machine with my domain account. Using IE8, if I have the 'Enable Integrated Windows Authentication' setting checked then it will popup the username and password dialogue but after three attempts at entering my domain username and password it is showing me a 401.1 error. If I disable this setting then it lets me into the test website straight away. I am able to log into the machine running the website as an admin with my domain account.

I need to be able to access the website with 'Enable Integrated Windows Authentication' checked as this is the default. I'm not sure where to begin to look for a solution to this problem, I understand that it may be something to do with Kerberos but I know absolutely nothing about that! Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should be looking for?

Server monitoring tools

Hi, i'm pretty new to system administration but my company got about 8 servers win2003/iis6 installed on them with lots of asp.net applications. I'm looking for monitoring tool (ping/uptime/asp.net/network/etc...) tool that is easy to configure and doesn't cost a bunch.

Are there such applications , i really need to concentrate all the servers into one monitoring application because i'm getting nuts dealing with each server by its own in addition to that i can't really monitor outside of workplace ( so there must be some sms or beeper messaging built-in)

if you have names of free or cheap tools like these i would love to have them too...
