IIS 7.5 with .Net 4 Beta 2 - Do I Need Web Deployment Tool still

Hi, with IIS 6 and 7 the separately installed Web Deployment Tool allowed within inetmgr/iis manager to select a web site and get an Action group called "Deploy" to Export or Import a Package. This would happily build the manifests to go along with my files.

I now have a system with IIS 7.5 and .NET Framework 4 beta 2 installed (and registered). I kind of assumed all that would grant powershell and ms deploy access; do I need to install Web Deployment Tool as well, to see export/import package options, and in order to be a destination provider of an Msdeploy action, or perhaps adjust some handler mapping?

Thanks, that sounds easy, this is what I've tried (I tried to make my custom xml based on the official ones but didn't succeed, itt seems that because of the missing tab info), but now I think it will work, using the samples.

I have the same problem, but I will ask a question to,

I have the same problem with Windows 7 Professional RTM 64bit, but i don't have the problem with Windows 7 Ultimate build 7000/7100 RC 64bit Version.

Also there are some products missing like PHP, Drupal and a lot more.

Are there any differents with windows 7 products that will not allow us to see these tabs and the missing products?

I have installed Free Visual Web Dev 2008 Exp in April 2009. It has not been used for only one month. It won't me to it today. However, I found a way to open it, but all of the tools under the ToolBox have grayed out.

Is any boday can tell me how can I fix it?

Unable to install SQL Server 2008 Express with Advanced Services (ERROR -2068578304)

I have tried to install this application several time and I get the following USELESS error message " Install exit code for product 'SQL Server 2008 Express with Advanced Services' is -2068578304".

Prior to the first install, I uninstalled SQL Express 2005 and all related items. After the first, I unistaled all of the SQL 2008 items that made it and then installed again, same error. I am installing this on a laptop with Vista (64 bit)

dotnetnuke database creation fails

Installs great, but cannot create a database. I'm using Web Platform Installer that pops up after clicking "Install application from gallery..". I'm not sure what else to add, except it "fails to create the database". Windows 7: Build 7100 2.93ghz Intel Celeron 2gb ram IIS 7

Microsoft Web Platform Installer 2.0 Beta quits before it can load

Brief problem statement:
When trying to run Web Platform Installer or reinstall it, Windows OS aborts the program with a 'Web Platform Installer has stopped working' message.

Background:
I attempted the installation by running the downloaded wpilauncher.exe file.
The install seemed to run ok and even went through the system reboot.

At that time, however, the installer seemed to freeze. The install window said downloads were complete, but seemed to freeze on step 2 of 4.

I then chose CANCEL from the install window... and that seemed to freeze as well... I gave it probably an hour for both the attemped install, and another one for the attempted cancellation.

Finally, I killed the process with the task manager.

After that, any attempt to run the wpilauncher.exe again, or run the Web Platform Installer from the Windows Start Menu, I will get the Windows error window saying the Web Platform Installer has quit working.

It looked to me like the MSVCR80.dll file was corrupted or missing, so I checked the Windows/System32 folder.

Yes... the MSVCR80.dll file was missing, so I found version 8.0.50727.762 on the Internet and copied it (after a virus check, of course) to my system32 directory.

Unfortunately, that did not help. I still get the same error message from windows when I try to run the Web Platform Installer or reinstall it by running wpilauncher.exe.

I even tried uninstalling the Web Platform Installer via the Control Panel - Programs utility. While it uninstalls ok, I immediately get the same error message when I run wpilauncher.exe.

If get a feeling I could start all over again if I could figure out how to completely uninstall the Web Platform Installer and reinstall it "cleanly"...

That is, I would like to cleanly uninstall the Installer AND all the web development apps it originally installed... then start all over again for a clean install of everything.

Your expertise would be greatly appreciated.

how to update web.config

Hi,

I followed the instructions at http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/578/application-packaging-guide-for-the-windows-web-application-gallery/. Everything works except updating the web.config.

I have the following structure in my zip file

nService4.zip
    nService4/
        a bunch of .aspx
        Web.Config
    Manifest.xml
    Parameter.xml
    install.sql

Parameter.xml:
    
    <parameter
      name="Connection String For Config"
      description="Automatically sets the connection string for the Web.config."
      defaultValue="Data Source={Database Server};Database={Database Name};Uid={Database Username};Pwd={Database Password};"

Web.Config was not updated. I suspect it has to do with the scope syntax. Can it get to nSerive4/Web.Config in my case?

Hi workerbee2,

We don't have a specific ODBC provider but system DSNs are stored in the registry, so you can grab it using the regkey and regvalue providers.

I created a system DSN called TestODBC and then searched the registry to determine where it was stored.

Here's an example manifest that captures this DSN (saved as manifest.xml):

Then sync to a package:

msdeploy -verb:sync -source:manifest=manifest.xml -dest:package=c:\ODBC.zip

And sync from the package:

msdeploy -verb:sync -source:package=c:\ODBC.zip -dest:auto

Let me know if you have any questions or different ODBC connections that need to be synced.
