Yes I am seeing this unexplained error on some test sites I have created today. http://[ip_address]:82. Have you managed to resolve this?. This is so annoying everytime I want to do something on this Sharepoint farm something breaks which needs fixing.

W2K3 server in a Workgroup prompts for credentials while anonymous is enabled

Hi there, I hope that anyone of you guys or girls can help me, because I'm going bananas over here,... Here is our situation:

We got a standalone W2K3 server running in our DMZ that isn’t a member in our domain (why? don’t ask, it’s not my idea... )
On this server SharePoint 2007 is installed en has a couple of sites (again, it’s best practice to make a SharePoint server a member of a domain. It’s even mandatory if you’re want to scale in your infrastructure)
One site has anonymous access
With firefox I have no problems opening that site
With IE (7+) it’s a total disaster! It prompts for credentials

Now will it makes sense that you switch over to basic authentication instead of windows authentication. But that doesn’t help. Probably because you need to give a Default domain or Realm... And it will not work with a server in a Workgroup.

Can anyone of you give me a push in the right direction?Thanks in advance!...

FrontPage Extensions HTTP Error 401.1

I'm having the exact same problem, but it seems to be limited to virtual sites that are using host headers as opposed to listening on a unique IP address. Such as...

1. In IIS Manager, right-click Web Sites -> New -> Web Site
2. Fill out info & listen on unique IP address (already configured in TCP/IP network properties). Point to a new root web directory..
3. All Programs -> Administrative Tools -> Microsoft SharePoint Administrator (http://localhost:6109/fpadmdll.dll)
4. Click Extend to create FrontPage Server Extensions 2002 on the new virtual server.
5. Set an admin user (HOSTNAME\Administrator).
6. Click the new virtual server via SharePoint admin page.. links to:
http://<website-url>/_vti_bin/_vti_adm/fpadmdll.dll?page=webadmin.htm
This page prompts for UserName/Password. Enter HOSTNAME\Administrator & password. Displays website administration page (Works fine).

When I repeat the same steps using host header instead of a unique IP at Step 2, instead of properly displaying the admin config page at step 6, I keep getting the prompt to enter Username/Password 3 times until it finally results in:
HTTP Error 401.1 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials.

NOTE: This only happens if I attempt to run the SharePoint Administration from the the host the web sites are installed on. Accessing the virtual web site administration from a remote host works fine:
http://<website-url>/_vti_bin/_vti_adm/fpadmdll.dll?page=webadmin.htm

I can only guess the SharePoint is having trouble resolving the use of the host headers.

Passing Sharepoint user to a asp.net webapplication outside the organization

It has been a while I got this requirement. My previous projects usually assumed no handshaking with external sites and integrated security was sufficient. What is the latest and/or best practices in this kind of scenario in your professional opinion?

Any advice or articles on this issue will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your thoughtful responses.

IIS 7.0 URL Rewrite and SharePoint 2007

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience (and hopefully some success) using the IIS 7.0 URL Rewrite module with SharePoint 2007.

My fear is that SharePoint is not going to allow the IIS 7.0 URL Rewrite module to handle redirects.

I added a URL Rewrite wildcard rule against my SharePoint development environment, but it is as if the rule is being ignored completely and I am getting the standard SharePoint 404 NOT FOUND error.

Is there anybody who has had success using these two technologies together?

OnSendResponse and SharePoint in anonymous mode

I have a seriuos problem working with a native module and SharePoint. I`ll try to resume the problem in this post.

I have a file of 11 MB uploaded to a sharepoint library and I have developed a native httpModule with this code:

REQUEST_NOTIFICATION_STATUS

SendReport is a function that writes in the event log. The problen is this:

If I download the file from sharepoint while loged in, the function OnSendResponse is called 3 times, in the event log it is shown 1 time "First request notification" and 2 times "request notification part". My code runs fine and I can recover the complete file.

If I download the file from sharepoint while NOT loged in, the function OnSendResponse is called 1 time, in the event log it is shown 1 time "request notification part" and I can't recover the response, I can only recovery the last part of the file.

Where is the problem???? I think this is a cache problem, but I have disbled all kinds of cache (including kernelcache) and problem is still there.

URL Rewrite Module + SharePoint 2007

I'm in the early stages of trying to use the IIS 7.0 Rewrite Module (1.1 - x64) with SharePoint 2007 SP2. I was curious to know if anyone else was succesful at using these two together?

At a highlevel I have a nested site collection structure like so:

http://allsites.com/sites/sitecollection1/..

http://allsites.com/sites/sitecollection2/..

And I'd like to rewrite like so:

http://sitecollection1.com/* -> http://allsites.com/sites/sitecollection1/*

Again, I'm in the early stages, but so far this appears to be a problem that the rewrite module can handle. I'd like to know if anyone has done anything similar.

Autorisation - Cannot verify access to path

Hey fellas, I am currently migrating from Server 2003 to Server 2008 (and of course from IIS 6 to 7) and have quite a bit of problems setting up my website. I am a programmer, not an IT specialist, so please be so kind to help me out with this.

First off, I have a SharePoint site, which I have set up on my new IIS 7 server and I want to create a sub application under this SharePoint (port 80) website.

If I create a new application under the "Default Web Site" everything works fine. If I disable the Default Site and enable "SharePoint - 80" - it doesnt work, but instead throws a System.UnauthorizedAccessException. For my application I am using an exactly the same application pool and permission policy as for the Default website.

The sharepoint website is located in C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\wss\Virtual Directories\80 (as expected) and the website that I want to implement is here: C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\IMS

That's basically it.

I am hoping someone can help.

I have a IIS box (Windows 2008) which is running IIS 7 with Windows Sharepoint Services 3 installed on it. This sharepoint site was all working perfectly until i went and installed a third party web portal site on the same IIS server.

The new virtual site was installed under "Default Web Site" which Sharepoint had stopped as it obviously is using the Sharepoint Services - 80 site instead. As soon as i installed the third party piece of software it stopped the sharepoint site from working and all i got when trying to access the sharepoint site is "HTTP 500 Internal Server Error".

Obviously the third party app made some change to bindings or some other setting but even after uninstalling the third party app sharepoint still is not working.

I am hoping someone can help me with this.

403 Error when requesting Silverlight .XAP file in Windows Server 2008 x64 only

Here’s the situation:

We’ve got a MOSS application with a number of Silverlight WebParts. We’ve installed and tested these on Windows Server 2003 x86 + x64 with no issues (other than having to add the MIME type for .xap to IIS).

The XAP files that the WebParts load are deployed to MOSS using a .WSP and they reside in:

/_CONTROLTEMPLATES/Company/XAPS/Display.xap

and would be access by

http://server/_CONTROLTEMPLATES/Company/XAPS/Display.xap

So, on to the problem. When deployed in Windows Server 2008 x64 the .xap is not delivered to the client.

IIS (& Fiddler) both report a 403.1 error. After turning on the Failed Request Tracing Feature and running a couple of tests the following is constantly returned for the .xap request.

So, I first thought that the MIME type was not set correctly, however Windows Server 2008 has the required .XAP MIME types set out of the box so I’m a bit stuck for what else to try.

Update: I've cross posted this to the SharePoint forum (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sharepointadmin/thread/e8c0827b-90d6-4e10-8b92-80217b6bf46c) as I'm not sure whether it's a SharePoint or IIS issue. I'll mark as closed here and update with the solution if I get an answer over there.
