Rewrite Rule Not Working

Hello,

I have written the following rule but with unexpected results. I want the rule to do the following:

A user registers with our website and is given the follwing URL to view his profile:

http://username.mywebsite.com

when he types in the URL the rule is suppose to rewrite the url and take him to:

http://www.mywebsite.com/users/username

Mind you, no subdomains are ever created only a folder under users is created upon registration.

Here is my rule:

<conditions>

</conditions>

Can someone please take a look at what I have going on here. I've documented the issues I'm having, along with what I need on this page pretty well... should be self explanatory. I've also posted the <rule> code on the page for examination...

I need professional help here... Here's the situation... I have product URL's going to detail pages. On that page it breaks out into sub-sections, at times it also carries extra parameters in the query string other than "v" and "fa"... note that "v" is an alpha-numeric product ID, and "fa" is the sub-section

res/stat.cfm?v=id (default page)
res/stat.cfm?v=id&fa=graphs
res/stat.cfm?v=id&fa=comments
res/stat.cfm?v=id&fa=whatever

I'm looking to create rule(s) like the following:

alphanumericID
alphanumericID/graphs
alphanumericID/comments
alphanumericID/whatever

I'm thinking the second parameter after the ID needs to be written as some kind of wildcard so that it will work in any of the above examples??

I'm also looking for these rule requirements:

no hardcoded rule values (ex: graphs, comments, etc) as they get changed at times.
make sure the alphanumericID is just that (regex A-Z 0-9), if not, skip rule
direct access to "res/stat.cfm" forces a "url has moved" host headers then redirects to the rewritten version.
It would also be nice to be able to access the "res/stat.cfm" directly for testing and development purposes and bypass the redirect... (ex: res/stat.cfm?id=abc123&bypass=1)

Here's what I have so far which is not flexible and error prone.....

Pattern: ^([^/]+)/?$

Rewrite URL: res/stat.cfm?v={R:1}

Clearly this doesn't do what I need it to do and far from flexible... I've been banging my head against the wall trying different things with minimal success. I know there's someone out there that could probably write this up in 2 minutes!

Rewrite input with parameters. (question mark ? issue)

Hi there fellow IIS7 people.

Currently trying to make a rule to rewrite an input like this:

getpic.asp?id=216303644&picsize=350

when visiting this adress, I simply get an 404 and the rule does not trigger.

I'm fairly convinced the problem lies with the "?" that I had to escape as "\?" to get my regEx pattern to work in URLrewrite GUI.

Now pasting this code I do see "&" aswell, and that might be an issue aswell.

Hope someone can tell me how to get the rule to trigger correctly.

It is not possible to use IsDirectory in a rule defined on a global level (<globalRules>). However, you can place site specific rules in the applicationHost.config file and configure IIS delegation so that it is not possible to overwrite the rules in web.config file.

Seeing rewritten URI in status

Hello!

Perhaps a dumb/newbie question but still - just how do I get the rewrite module to display already rewritten URI in browser status eg. when you go over the link, in the status bar (bottom of the browser) to display rewritten URL - not just after the URL has been visited already and rewritten after that - I mean I see this all the time on your pages too - I somewhat doubt that you have modified all your .NET code to output manually rewritten links - or did you?

I know to have this effect in some test scenarios with ISAPI_REWRITE - it did that with using rewrite maps in both directions (rewrite/redirect) and the mouse-over-links got rewritten before I actually clicked one.

So my question - is this doable with new (and extremely great) URL Rewrite engine for IIS? Or am I to go modify the ASP code to output the actual rewritten links and then just apply the rules to redirect? OR am I missing something very obvious (like I already did in the past *LOL*)?

Why is that a problem? If you place two rules one after each other then the will be executed in a sequence and the output of the first rule will be given as an input to the following rule.

The rule pattern is "web/*" but you browse to web1/dev.aspx, which does not match the pattern.

Redirecting one dynamic URL to another

I'm trying to setup a redirect from this:
http://www.contoso.com/buying/search/details.aspx?id=2538244

to this:
http://www.contoso.com/Search.aspx?mls=2538244

and I can't seem to get it to work - any ideas?

You will have to add 4 different rules.
