Issue with installation of Service Packs

Hi, on this site claimed that WPI 2.0 will install the latest version of SQL Server 2008 Express with Service Pack 1. But after end of the installation I've checked versions of SQL Server on Microsoft Update Site and received result that no Service Pack 1 installed. So, can you check, why WPI 2.0 RTM doesn't install version with Service Pack and we need to download and install them separately? Thanks. Windows XP Pro SP3 + all updates.

First Installation Fails

I just installed wpilauncher for the first time. After going through the tedious task of providing user names and passwords for a platoons worth of people it informed me that the product had been previously installed. I found this a novel means of getting software is installed. This Hard Drive has only been installed for about 4 day, and this was my first installation of any of the MSDN offerings. Could you use this new technology to install Windows 7 for me.

Web Installer - standalone

Is there a standalone installer which I can use off-line? Our internet in SA is shockingly expensive and unreliable.

Web Platform Installer thinks IIS is installed, but it isn't

Hopefully this hasn't already come up - couldn't find anything on it.

I installed everything available the first time I ran WPI, but I can't find the IIS stuff anywhere. Looking in Program Files/IIS just brings up a Web Deployment Tool folder. Otherwise, it's empty.

Also if I try to install any extensions, the installers claim IIS isn't found, so I'm pretty sure it failed to install.

Meanwhile, there are no options available under the "Web Server" tab in WPI. It says everything is installed, and when I click Customize, it brings up a nearly empty pane - the only thing on it is a button saying "return to Web Platform Installer".

Anyone able to help? Thanks a ton!

The installer should figure out the dependencies and prompt to download and install the - check www.eclipse.org and see how their installer handles additional features.

Another issue with the installer is that once you pick the your installation (say the thrid from http://www.microsoft.com/express/sql/download/) you cannot install more features (say Full-Text Search and Reporting Services), because the installer tells you that the package is already installed, which is not the case.

You guys have some briliant ideas, I cannot believe you missed simple and straightforward capabilities like these. You must fix that!

Hi Andrew

As I said before, I and thousands like me don't get installation media any more as our machines come pre-installed with Windows.

Fortunately, when reading the documentation for Visual Web Developer (sorry, I should have done this first), I find you don't need IIS to test web pages on your local machine.

Perhaps you can put a note to this effect next to the Web Server option when choosing Web Platform components from within the Web Platform Installer application? Something like "to install IIS you will need the original XP discs". This will avoid a lot of headaches for new users trying to install IIS when they don't really need it.

dotnetnuke database creation fails

Installs great, but cannot create a database. I'm using Web Platform Installer that pops up after clicking "Install application from gallery..". I'm not sure what else to add, except it "fails to create the database". Windows 7: Build 7100 2.93ghz Intel Celeron 2gb ram IIS 7

Thanks for your quick reply.

I've installed IE8 and now the Web Installer Platform runs OK.

Problem 2 is now its asking for files from the XP SP2 disc, which I've installed to a directory on my machine. Everything goes OK until we get to the file admxprox.dll which I can't find anywhere in the XP SP2 installation disc or in my windows directory. From reading posts in other forums I believe that this may be on the original XP disc. As I'm sure you;re well aware, most people don;t get any discs with their machines any more as Windows is preinstalled (as is my version). Is there anywhere else that I can get hold of the necessary files?

Launch phase problem

Hi,

I am experiencing an issue where WPI hangs, not even getting to the point where the product list is downloaded. When I run WPI I get the progress bar with 'please wait while we load the latest web platform products' message. This just sits there indefinitely (I have left it running overnight with no progress).

I am running XP Professional SP3.

I have tried the various combinations of proxy settings in the WebPlatformInstaller.exe.config file.

I have downloaded the WebProductList-beta.xml file and put it in the application's directory.

The latest windows updates have been applied and I am running WPI without any other programs running.

I am now at a loss as to what the problem is and it is driving me mad! Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks,
