Cannot get FrontPage extensions 2002 to work

Recently installed fresh server 2k3 Standard with Exchange 2k3. My website and email work perfectly. After I installed FrontPage Extensions the options to enable/configure for my website does not appear as an option when I click on the All Tasks drop down. What could the problem be? I have researched and came across something called IIS Lockdown might be causing the problem...but I never installed. Any help or insight would be cool. Thanks.

Publishing a C++ web service

I want to know whether we can host a web service written in an unmanaged code (either C or C++) in IIS ?

I could not find any sample program or any article mentioning how to do it or whether it is possible.

I hope some knows something about this.

I have a Win2k3 file server running IIS 6.0. Users need to access this server with FTP so I have created an FTP site. I have created half a dozen Virtual Directories on this site that are mapped to various folders on this machine. All of the virtual directories are working fine except for one. I have quadriple checked that all six virtual directories are setup exactly the same way. The NTFS permissions (on the non-working directory) allow Domain Users full control and the owner is Administrators just like all the others. The one notable difference is that this one virtual directory is rather large; 330GB in size. I don’t know if its size may be a factor or not.

When I try to access this share from within our network with ftp using Windows Explorer,

I get a login prompt and then eventually the following error:

FTP Folder Error – An error occurred opening that folder on the FTP Server. Make sure you have permission to access that folder. Details: The operation timed out.

On the server, the following event is logged:

Source: MSFTPSVC Event ID: 10 Description: User <username> at host 192.168.0.229 has timed-out after 120 seconds of inactivity.

If anyone has any ideas, I would much appreciate any input. Thanks.

Unable to get MS-FP/4.0 in MS-Author-Via header using Frontpage Server Extensions

When Frontpage Server Extensions 2002 is installed on IIS 6.0, am unable to get Frontpage authoring MS-FP/4.0 in MS-Author-Via header field, when HTTP OPTIONS request is sent.

I enabled Frontpage Server Extensions using Web extensions node, and also set the Frontpage Web property to "TRUE" in metabase.xml file in IIS.

Our setup is as below:

Platform: Windows Server 2003 R2

IIS 6.0

Is there any workaround to be done like changes in configuration.

I get my hello world page if I visit radio.myhost.com. I did managed to check that! ;-) Anyhow, I've gone through the suggesions that you have. I recreated the site from scratch, and Set it only for Read & Scripts Only. IIS creates the website with an ID of 2137111081, and the group as OWS_1951370092_admin is that a problem?

Before I deleted the site, I did as you suggested the /_vti_bin/shtml.dll & got the right response, but I had to Authenticate first. Could that be a problem?

At any rate, I'm back to that point again. The shtml.dll tells me that it can't run on this page "". However, the most notable difference is that it's not asking me about WebDav or FPSE anymore. It just tells me that the folder http://radio.myhost.com isn't accessible. The folder may be password protected, etc, etc.

Even if I browse to the site and then do Edit with FrontPage.

[I'm using FP2003 here, btw].

I have manually set the IUSR_MYSERVER password myself. The machine is on a domain, but is not a domain controller. It is using the Local IUSR_MYSERVER account.

Any other ideas?

I also have the server listening for a header that does *not* exist in DNS. It is only on the hosts file on my development box and the web server that is running it.

Windows 2003 FPSE 2003 and FrontPage problems...

Hi All:

I'm using Windows Server 2003 & IIS 6.0, along with FPSE 2002. I use FrontPage 2003 for editing the web sites. My Primary site (www.myhost.com) pointed to C:\inetpub\www.myhost.com. That site doesn't even have FPSE installed on it at all.

I am adding a new site called radio.myhost.com located in C:\inetpub\radio.myhost.com, and it uses the host header radio.myhost.com. This site, I need to install & get FPSE working on. I have created the folder C:\inetpub\radio.myhost.com, and left it empty. I am logged in as MYDOMAIN\Administrator.

I go under the IIS Administration tool, and right click on Websites, and do a new website with Read, Run, and Execute permissions. Then, I right click on the site and Configure Server Extensions 2002 with the owner as MYDOMAIN\Administrator. I leave the Site set up to run as a "Default Application" in the Default Application Pool. I then go back and Check the Server Health, telling it to repair everything. This happens instantly (it's an empty directory anyhow). Then I set the Directory Security to *ALLOW* Anonymous Users, and use BASIC authentication.I set both the Realm and the Default Domain to mydomain.com.

At this point, I should be able to log in as MYDOMAIN\Administrator to the website radio.myhost.com, right?

When I Open FrontPage 2003 and open Site http://radio.myhost.com I get the Web Site setup screen, where I choose FPSE or SharePoint Services. I don't choose Include Subsites or encrypted connection required. I click next, and I get a popup:

"You are unable to import a Website from http://radio.myhost.com. Verify the location and then try again"

What am I doing wrong?

Maybe it is a problem with my Frontpage Server Extensions.

I wasn't particularly clear on my initial message. My ISP is only providing the DNS entries for a static IP address assigned to the domains and sub-domain. In other words, my ISP is mapping the domain name and the subdomains (i.e. CNAMES) on their DNS server, however the physical webserver with the FPSE is here with me.

Is it odd that I can publish to the webserver using an IP address, yet I can't publish using the domain name (i.e. website.com)? Do y'all normally publish to a domain name? In the past I've always published to IP addresses. Now that I'm attempting to publish to subdomains (i.e. subdomain.website.com) that are on the same IP address as my domain name (website.com) I've bumped into this problem for the first time.

Come to think of it, I do not believe this is an FPSE problem. I have all of the subdomain contents working in subsites to website.com (i.e website.com\subdomain\default.asp). I can publish all of these subsites because I publish the root site in FP and check the box to publish all subsites. Seems to me the problem is either that this is standard operating procedure (Frontpage can't publish to domain names - it can only publish to server names or IP addresses); or I've got some kind of security block on my local webserver that allows publishing to the IP address but blocks publishing to the domain name.

hello iis forums,

glad to be here. i have been working on this problem for about a week.

i have just created a website, and i have it hosted at home on a server with w2k3. i installed iis 6 and the website itself
is working fine. i used dyndns service becasue my isp serves me a dynamic ip.

my goal is to use cuteFTP as my client to ftp files to (ftp.mysite.com) the server from remote locations, becasue i am familiar and comfortable with this app.

i have a router and i have port forwarded port 21 and also have that set for a static ip for the server---192.168.2.xxx.
i have installed ftp on the w2k3 server--no problem.
i have set up the website on the d drive and iis is on the c. i am not sure if this makes a difference.
i went thru the ftp site wizard here are my properties:

ftp site:
ip address--all unassigned becasue of the dynamic ip
port-21

security accounts:
allow anonymous connections is checked
username and password is the same as a username and password of
a user in the permissions for the ftp site also there is a folder in d:/mysite/username

home directory:
directory located on this computer--checked
ftp site directory--local path--d:/mysite
read,write,logvisits,checked
directory listing-ms-dos

directory security:
granted access--checked

now i can check ftp://192.168.2.xxx on another computer on the network and it works fine. press page-->open in windows explorer and i can.

now when i go to ftp://mysite.com. on another computer on the network. it asks me for username and password, and when i put them in

it will not accept me, i press ok after entering and it just erases my password and asks me again and again.

after reserching this problem and trying all options i need help.

in the interim i read that webdav is more secure and have been using that.

i just do not like being defeated and i cannot get this to work.

one thing to add cute ftp gives me the error 331 password required and 530 user "username"
can not log in.

have checked and changed the password 10 times the problem is not that.

I have created a virtual directory in IIS and web dav publishing is enabled on my IIS Server.

How can I access and manipulate files in my WebDAV folder through code (C#).

Please suggest any free webdav client API and reference links.
