Unable to go to my homepage...

Hi guys..

I am new to .NET and I recently started learning it for my college project. I have Windows XP professional edition installed on my system. In order to work on my project I installed first IIS and then Visual studio 2008 in my system, though i dn't know what is IIS...

Now, I recently came to know about InetPub directory and all d stuff...and when I tried to check if my IIS is working or not by typing "http://localhost/", I am being asked for username and password. I tried each and evry username on my system and evn created a new user for this purpose, but of no use. Then I tried giving all the permission for the rrot directory InetPub,which is also of no use.

and yesterday it was showing another error "cannot display the requested page" and the error it is showing is "error in the line 40- GetObject method or something"

Now, how the hell it is showing this error when i dn't even opend the root directory????

nd I tried microsoft's trubleshooting document...nd it went over my head....

Please please help me.....my idiot faculty is eating my brains...

IIS not starting

Hi,

i`m using Windows 2000 SP4 and i`ve just installed IIS 5.0.

However when i open inetmgr i get error message something like:

"error while connecting to computer - system couldn`t find specified path" (it`s my translation from Polish)

and i cannot see my computer under IIS tree node.

Please help me.

When one server downs how to on another server

Hi ,

I have hosted my project recently and its working fine.The server is hosted in Sudan.My client is asking me that due to any reasongs his server fails he wants me to up another server where the same application to run.

Can anybody give me an idea how the application can run from another server is one serve fails?

Migrating + Merging IIS 5 to IIS 6 help?

Hi folks, im trying to migrate one older IIS 5 server's sites to a newer IIS 6 server. The IIS 5 is running on windows 2000 and IIS 6 is on Windows 2003 machine. The IIS 6 box already has half a dozen sites running on it which cant be taken offline. Likewise id like to transferr the IIS 5 sites with little/no downtime.

The utility of choice seems to be the IIS migration tool from microsoft however it only adresses (as far as i can tell) bringing sites from one IIS server to a new clean installed version. Im unsure as to weather or not it will conflict at somepoint and damage the IIS 6 box. Any reccomendations suggestions or walkthroughs would be greatly appreciated.

Here goes the details on why by IIS 5.0 is non-responsive or hangs...

WinXP Pro 2002, SP 3
IIS 5.0, excruciatingly slow and hangs often
All other applications on this box run fine

Start IIS from with Adminitrative Tool: 10 seconds to appear.

Really really slow when expanding tree nodes in IIS.

Takes forever for IIS panel to refresh.
Bring this dialog to the foreground takes 10+ seconds.

Expanding COMPUTER_NAME (local computer) : 10 seconds.
Expanding Web Sites: Hour-glass just hangs.

Kill with Task Manager.

Restart IIS from with Adminitrative Tool: 10 seconds to appear.

Expanding COMPUTER_NAME (local computer) : 10 seconds.
Right-Click Web Sites: Add New Web Site
Web Creation Wizard Dialog appears

set Web Site description: 10 seconds
set Web Site description path: 0 seconds
set Web Site permissions : 20 seconds
Successfully completed.

Go back to IIS panel

Takes forever for IIS panel to refresh.
IIS hangs.

Configuring IIS 5.0 so Windows Mobile devices can use ActiveSync for exchange

We are running Exchange 2003 on Windows Server 2000 with IIS 5.0 installed.

This was working so we know it can work in this enviroment but we're having extreme difficulties troubleshooting this issue because of the versions of the software we are running.

Windows Mobile Devices (WMD) report an error ActiveSync encoutered a problem on the server. Support code: 0x85010001.

We are not using SSL certification and the settings on the WMD's reflect this.

Please, please help.

Need to stop Webserver programatically

Hi,

I need to shut down my Web application that is running in an IIS in its Default Website root. Please advice how to stop it. Since, my Web application is running a thread i need to shut that application at end of the day manually!(The application is meant for accessing by users constantly, so it has very lesser chances for getting closed automatically...).

I'm running my application in development machine's IIS 5.0 and will be hosted in IIs 6.0 by the client. So, the solution should be compatible for both versions!

Please help!

Details regarding cs-uri-query

Hi all,

I require some clarification on the data that is being logged in the cs-uri-query field of an IIS 5.0 servers' log.

Regarding a POST method query, does the data get stored in the cs-uri-query field?

Additionally, is there a *.microsoft.com source that discusses the data stored in the field in more detail?

So far, I have been unable to find anything authoritative or usefull regarding this.

All help is appreciated.
