Website Hangs at PDF Creation

I am using Karamasoft's UltimateEditor v3.4 to capture text entered by users in html format. This UltimateEditor comes with html to pdf conversion dll (ephtmltopdf.dll version 5.0). After publishing website to IIS 6.0 running on Windows 2003 Std server, it worked fine for first 2-3 weeks and then started to hang at the line of code that calls pdf file creation which is part of ephtmltopdf.dll file.

Most troubling part of my problem is that same website will work some time and then stop working. Initially, when this problem was discovered, I used to resolve it by restarting Website/Application Pool/IIS. However, now it is very unpredictable and restart will not work either. Also, if I leave this application alone for few days then it may start working and will stop at some random time.

I have tried out all number of debug tools to see what is wrong and I am not able to find any solution. I have also created IIS dump and then I have no way to read dump file to see the root cause of the problem.

I will really appreciate your help on resolving this problem. Any other suggestions for troubleshooting are welcome as well.

How can I sync a specific web application within a website in IIS6 using msdeploy?

Hi,

I have been trying to sync only certain web application in a website in II6, but i cant figure out the correct command to do that. Now i think i know how to sync the entire website, but i want to only sync a specific web applications in that website.

Any help will be appreciated!

Add new website

I have a website built in classic ASP. I have lots of .asp files which only contain <!-- include virtual = "/lib/xyz.asp> and many more # includes.

Now when i try to run my site its gives me an error. I am aware that all those #include files must be pasted under wwwroot with their directory structure intact.

I am currently using windows XP. The website is already deployed on windows 2003 server. In win 2003, when i open IIS i can right click on "Websites" folder and do Add new web site.

Is this possible to do in win xp by changing some configuration. Because in xp every time i add a new website it gets added under default website and the starting point for that website starts from default website. I want the starting point of the website to start from the folder i specified while adding the new virtaual directory in XP.

Is it possible to change the starting point of the web site in XP or allow IIS to support the functionality of adding a new website when i right click on Websites folder in Win XP.

Time lags and delays on iis

Hello all,

Hopefully I will get an answer to this question as this is bothering us for a long time. we have two web apps on same server. One is calling another using http or soap (this doesn't have influence on delay issue). At random times it happens that in the log we see that app1 issues request with some delay to app2. Everything in both apps works fine and we are sure that this is related to some configuration issue but we don't have a clue...

Anyone expirienced something like this before?

Redirect All http requests to HTTPS not working !

Hi IIS experts !

I have redirected incoming HTTP requests to HTTPS using Microsoft URL rewriter and using rules in Web.config file in IIS 7.

Now I have another problem.

When a user type https://mywebsite.com it goes to ===> https://mywebsite.com and all broswers throws certificate error, because my certifcate is issued to www.mywebsite.com.

I want all requests goes to https://www.mywebsite.com(Like http://paypal.com) . So that users visiting my site do not get SSL certificate error, I am struggling with it. Any solution ?

w3wp.exe process hangs server after few hours

Hi,

I have windows 2003 server standard edition SP2 running with IIS services. On starting, the w3wp.exe process consumes about 12-16000 K of memory as shown in the task manager After few hours of running the w3wp.exe process when the memory usages reaches 29-30000 K, the process hangs the server. the only possible solution is to either restart the server where all the users have to relogin or another aption is to kill the process. On killing the process, the w3wp.exe starts automatically immediately. this is a temperory solution. I tried replacing the w3wp.exe file from another server and also isolated & scanned the whole server for viruses, but the problem still persists. please help resolving this issue permanently

Issue with IIS communicating to File Server UNC Share

We have a re-occuring error on our IIS web server farm event logs.

The current setup is that we have 6 web servers on IIS6 and Windows 2003 connecting to the same set of ASP pages stored on a Windows 2008 File Server using a UNC Share (ip address). The error is occurs for different ASP pages as follows:

Warning Event ID 9

Warning: ASP: UNC Access failed for file - \\10.0.0.4\PRODUCTION SERVER\V6\PORTLETS\PORTLET-SPACER.ASP with the error = -2147024832.

Error Event ID 5

Error: ASP: UNC Access failed for file - \\10.0.0.4\PRODUCTION SERVER\V6\WWW\372\1001127\3243165.ASP with the error = -2147024832.

The errors occur at random intervals about 1-2 times a day on average On the website the user may experience a message Network Path Not Found. The error can occur for a few seconds or several minutes and sometimes during peak load and after hours. It is as if the File Server can not be found on the network for a short period of time. However on the File Server there are no error messages whatsoever. I have seen this error occuring more as we add more websites and the websites get busier.

So it may suggest some kind of bottleneck but the network bandwidth is still under 15% utilisation on a Gb network with 2 switches. We don't use DNS on the internal network. It is fairly simple with every server on the same subnet 10.0.0.x and communicating via ip addresses. This error has plagued us for a few years now. In that time we migrated from Windows 2003 storage Server to Windows 2008 for our File Server.

We have changed to HP Pro Curve Switches. We have virtualised IIS and File servers into VMWare 3.5. We have replaced all the network cables with Cat6 and all replaced the hardware on all physical ESX servers. So anyone trying to point to a network card/switch issue I can safely say that is not the problem. I have configured the recommended settings for UNC Sharing (i.e. MaxCmds etc.) for both File Server and IIS machines.

Pretty much I have exhausted every possible suggestion or recommendation to try to troubleshoot this problem but it still keeps occuring. Does anyone here have the expertise to help?

Bug: Invalid Name Characters

Greetings,

I was just running a report on one of my clients websites and came up with the message:

"There was an error while performing this operation.

Details:

Invalid name character '_META_INDEX,FOLLOW'. The ',' character, hexadecimal value 0x2C, cannot be included in a name".

The problem however is it gives me no indication as to which page has the error, and doesn't give me the error message until the very last page is analyzed. After I hit Ok it gives me the message:

"Closing the window will cancel the analysis. Do you want to stop the analysis?"

If I hit No to keep the analysis running but does nothing. If I then hit Ok it says a report exists with that name, if I try to rename the report it just starts running again. This is probably the reason for the my thread. Cheers.

Anonymous Issues

Having issues with anonymous authentication.

I'm still getting prompted for a network login (since I've enabled that as well). If I disable that, then I get a plain access denied.

I've reset IUSR and IWAM passwords. I've checked security on the root folders has IUSR as read only and inherits to children.

Any other ideas?

The "appcmd" command suggested by the IIS team solved the issue for me too (using mojoPortal CMS with NeatUpload [with NeatUpload's useHttpModule option enabled as is the default and having set its maxRequestLength option to a big value]) the path is: %windir%\system32\inetsrv so open a windows explorer folder, copy paste the following path in the address bar, then press ENTER to go there, then write cmd in the address bar and press ENTER assuming you have turned off UAC (User Access Control) in Vista and are logged in as an administrator else write Command in Start menu's Search box and when it finds the "Command Prompt" app, right click its icon and select "Run as administrator". Then at the command prompt enter: cd "%windir%\system32\inetsrv" and press ENTER key Also if windows isn't at drive C: but say at drive D:, write at the command prompt D: and press ENTER to go to that drive to see your site names give the command: appcmd list site to see your app names give the command: appcmd list app
