I just removed the piece of code that calls that position of the array, and it's ok for the application. Anyway, I think that I couldn't do anything, the array is returned from the MSSQL driver so it could be a problem of the driver too, but because of the topic I thought that could be a problem of FastCGI.

Hi,

I setup a web server with the following installed:

IIS 6.0
php-5.2.11-nts-Win32
FastCGI for IIS 6.0

I'm trying to use FastCGI to parse php scripts within my html files. But I first need for it to be able to parse php files. So when i tried viewing my index.php (or any other .php page) I get the following error:

PHP-FastCGI = Allowed (C:\PHP\php-cgi.exe)

Can someone help me figure out my problem? Just to let you know, i can view html pages just fine. It's the .php pages that are giving me the error. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

The wait operation timed out

I'm facing an intermitent problem on a production server. Sometimes fastcgi stops working.

After I use iisreset, everything seems to work fine. I think it happends only on pools that don't have many PHP sites, so the php-cgi.exe reaches the idle timeout, and when a php site is accesses again, the problem happends.

Error page:

FastCGI Error

The FastCGI Handler was unable to process the request.

Error Details:

The FastCGI process exceeded configured activity timeout
Error Number: 258 (0x80070102).
Error Description: The wait operation timed out.

HTTP Error 500 - Server Error.
Internet Information Services (IIS)

fcgiext.ini:

I can reproduce this error by killing the php-cgi.exe process of an specific apppool and accessing a php website of this pool, or access a php site an apppool that haven't any php-cgi.exe processes.

Using sysinternals processxp, I can see the process being spawned, and finished after displaying that error page, when the php page is accessed.

I use:

Windows 2003 SP2 32bits
IIS6.0
fcgiext 1.5
PHP 5.2.5

Problems with FastCGI timeout on IIS 6.0

This problem has been dogging me for some months now. So wondered if anyone else had come across it or had a solution to it.

Set up is as follows:

Windows Server 2003
IIS 6.0
PHP 5.2.6

PHP settings:
upload_max_filesize=21m
post_max_size=21m

FastCgi Settings:

QueueLength=1000
MaxInstances=10
ActivityTimeout=600
InstanceTimeout=600
InstanceMaxRequests=10000
EnvironmentVars=PHP_FCGI_MAX_REQUESTS:10000

I have a file upload system on a site for a client hosted as above. The problem I was having before increasing the timeout settings above from 300 to 600. Was any file over around 11mb was causing a FastCGI error (0x800703e3) error number 995 timeout error. Files smaller than this seemed to upload fine.

Once I increased the settings above everything worked as above except now after about 6-7 minutes I get an http server error 500 on files bigger than 11mb. As you can see the timeouts are set to 10 minutes so this should be ok. The file size variables in php are set to 21m and the largest file I have tried so far is 18.8m so should be no problem with file size.

The other problem is they are hosting on there own server and I have been liasing with their IT guy to try and resolve this his findings were as follows:

With the testing I did I proved the following It was the CGI timings causing large files to time out on the site giving us a error ( files over 10M ) The main problem I was seeing is a big difference between out side traffic and inside traffic Out side yourself or a customer always timed out 10M or so with an error

Inside timed out or froze with files 6M 8M etc usually without an error. So this indicates a timeout with AT&T gateway outwards we use which is very difficult to prove at present. My next step is to try and get simon to route directly to the box over the LAN which is causing concern as the server is sat on a DMZ.

Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to resolve this?

I have a 32bit 2003 STD R2 SP2 server running FastCGI and PHP 5.2.6. There are two IIS Sites running, each with their own application pool and identity. One site is running WordPress and the other is running PHPMyAdmin. When the server first starts or IIS is reset, the site which is hit first runs fine. The other site will get this error:

FastCGI Error

The FastCGI Handler was unable to process the request.

Error Details:

The FastCGI process exited unexpectedly
Error Number: -2 (0xfffffffe).
Error Description: Unknown Error

HTTP Error 500 - Server Error.

I have done the following in my attempt to resolve this issue:

Reset IIS, and load the site which was throwing the FastCGI error (PHPMyAdmin) before the site that wasn't (WordPress). The PHPMyAdmin site worked fine but the WordPress site did not.
Reset IIS and did the exact opposite as above (loaded WordPress before PHPMyadmin) and the exact opposite result was achieved (WordPress worked but PHPMyAdmin did not).
Checked permissions for all directories in concern (c:\php; c:\windows\system32\inetsrv; respective website directories). All permissions were fine, as I suspected because the sites do work if they load first.
Ran c:\php\php-cgi.exe d:\websitelocation\phpscript.php for both sites and the proper result was returned.
Cussed and screamed at the server, PHP, and FastCGI and the expected result was achieved (the vein in my forehead nearly popping). :-)
Checked FastCGI config file (fcgiext.ini) against the documentation here: http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/248/configuring-fastcgi-extension-for-iis60/.
Configured FastCGI with separate settings for each website. Same result.

I may have forgotten one or two things I have tried but I think I got them all.

After spending a good bit of time with Google and through trial and error I have found a configuration that appears to support perl using FastCGI on IIS 5.1 and IIS 6.0 using MS's FastCGI Extension for IIS6.0. I have tested it out on a limited basis using both IIS 5.1 on WinXp and IIS 6.0 on a virtual machine copy of Windows 2003 Server running on top of WinXP.

With this setup you setup a specific perl routine to run every time a URL with a specific extension is entered. What use this is I will leave up to you to decide.

A good description of how to configure FastCGI that focuses on PHP:

Here are the steps that I took to make it work with perl.

1. Configure IIS on both platforms using the default choices.
2. Download and install ActivePerl 5.8.8.824 using the msi installer and the default choices. Downloaded from: http://www.activestate.com/store/download_file.aspx?binGUID=45107672-7d2c-4529-85be-4aad89bcd59c
3. Using the ppm utility from ActivePerl install the FCGI module from the ActiveState PPM repository.
4. Download and install FastCGI using default options. Downloaded from: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2d481579-9a7c-4632-b6e6-dee9097f9dc5&displaylang=en and check to make sure fcgiconfig.js, fcgiext.dll and fcgiext.ini were all present in c:\windows\system32\inetsrv.
5. In "Local Security Settings" under "User Rights Assignment" add the "Network Service" to "Access this computer from the network". This took me a while to figure out. Now I need to think about potential side effects.
6. Using the Internet Information Services manager program:

a. Select properties for the "Default Web Site" and then go to the "Home Directory" tab and select "Configuration..." to get "Application Configuration" window.
b. Select "Add" to get the "Add/Edit Application Mapping" window.
c. Under "Executable:" browse to c:\windows\ststem32\inetsrv\fcgiext.dll and select it.
d. Once back at the "Add/Edit Application Mapping" select the value in the "Executable:" window. If you don't do this you will never be able to select "OK". See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/317948 for further details.
e. Type in .fcgi into the "Extension" field.
f. Check to make sure the "Script Engine" box is checked
g. The documentation says that "File Exists" must be checked but based on initial tests this is not the case.
h. Press OK.

7. Using the Services I restart the "World Wide Web Publishing" service.
8. Edit fcgiext.ini to include the lines below at the bottom. Note that what this is going to do is run the perl routine in printenv.fcgi every time you enter anything with an ".fcgi" extension. If you have not selected the checked the "File Exists" above then there will be no checking to make sure the file even exists.

9. Placed printenv.fgci into the c:\inetpub\wwwroot directory.

At this point printenv.fcgi will run every time you enter the following URL http://yourserver.domain.com/printenv.fcgi. Again note if you have not selected "File Exits" when you setup the application mapping no checking to see if the file on the URL actually exists. In this case http://yourserver.domain.com/mydir/test.fcgi will also run printenv.fcgi.

How can I be sure? Perfomance grows not so visibly. How could I correctly map .fcgi extension to run via isapi filter. Do I need to create copy of my mapserv.exe and rename it to mapserv.fcgi?

Hi I'm a neophyte so please pardon what may seem like basic stuff. I am having a problem with FastCGI stopping for what seem like no real reason. It works for a while and then following a configuration change PHP.ini it stops. I get an HTTP error 500.0 error.If I run a PHP - info from command prompt it seems to be running but I try the same thing in a script I get the error.IIS unable to access web.config. Solution proposed is to verify the NTFS permission for web.config.

What now? Any help would be appreciated.
