Well it all worked fine in 32-bit on IIS 6. Now I am trying to get the same web services working on 64-bit with IIS 7 and I am getting totally confused. Will I need to just get someone to recompile the web services for 64-bit?

I set up a virtual directory and pointed it at such-and-such a physical location. But when I try loading up a web service in my browser it look for it in inetpub and I get a 404 error. Why would it do that?

I don't know why my question was cryptic - I referenced the 2nd post in the thread which reads:
"Make sure the application pool, IUSR account have permissions to the folder. Also, make sure the ASP.NET module is installed."
I don't know why setting up a database has anything to do with it!

So I go the physical location of my virtual directory, and put Network Service (even though the app pool's identity is NetworkService without a space) in there?

Weird. In the 3rd screen shot down on this web page http://www.dotnetbips.com/articles/df885319-19cc-47b8-8808-6ed462db1de5.aspx it shows authorization rules to the right of Authentic... but I don't have it! What happened to mine???

Looking at this page http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc772061(WS.10).aspx it says:
In Features View, double-click Authorization Rules.
But there is no Authorization Rules to click on! I am looking at my virtual directory.
Why does all this have to be so complicated???

What does this mean - "1. Once you know the identity of your app pool,
check ACLs for that identity on the physical path"? What is an ACL and
how do I check them for my app pool on the physical path?
