Bug: Duplicate Report Name & Removing Reports

I just rank across a bug in Toolkit 1.0 where if you remove reports from the list, and then create a new analysis with the same name it causes issues. The new analysis will run, however after it was finished, and you hit Ok it gives the message "A repotr with the name 'Contempo New' already exists. Please specify a different name". The problem becomes the name box is grayed out, and the cursor is the Vista spinning thinking wheel. It would be nice to be able to edit the name, time to rerun a 28:50 report...

Adding into sitemap multiple results from site analysies

Hello, When I create sitemap and I press Add URLs, new window will popup. When I select URL-structure: Physical location or From site analysies, my expectation was that when I check some checkbox all sub items will be checked automatically, but it isn't the case at this point time. I do have several thousands webpages on my portal and I would like to have them all in sitemap. Adding them one by one doesn't make sense. It will take weeks to click to all checkboxes. Can you extend current functionality that when checkbox is clicked, all sub-checkboxes will be selected as well? one note, this module is one of the best on iis.net and I hope that you will keep up good job! I would like to only run the IISbot on my Web site—not external links/sites. How do I set this preference?

I want the option of running the analysis repeatedly (after incremental tweaks to my site) without beating up on the sites to which I outlink.

Site Analysis: Confusing error

I just installed the toolkit. I ran a Site Analysis and got this error part way through.

Details:

Invalid name character in '_META_CREATION_&_MAINTAINENCE'. The '&' character, hexadecimal value 0x26, cannot be included in a name.

BUG: CSS comments are parsed

I have used the seo analysis tool on my site and it picked up some missing files.

When investigating which pages were causing the problem I found that the URL was in a commented section of my CSS.

e.g.

/* background-image: url(graphics/loader.gif); */

Broken links with dynamic sites

Can anyone help configure SEOTK to identify broken links.

In my scenario page content is generated from the database and the entire site requires authentication.

Turns out that one of the content authors has been adding hyperlinks without http:// and this is resulting in pages in the site content generating urls such as http://www.mysite.com/www.anothersite.com/ - which does not exist. I am trying to use the SEOTK to identify the pages containing broken links like these but so far without success.I am getting one or two errors for "The page contains broken hyperlinks" and "The URL fro the hyperlink is broken", but I know there are more errors than are being detected this way.

My settings
I create a new Analysis, give it a name (test), the path is already set to the root of my application. Under advanced settings specify Host: www.mysite.com for Consider as internal link if coming from and in Authentication set basic mode and supply username and password for an account.

I got this warning:

The content type "application/x-javascript" does not match the content type of the HTTP response from URL "http://www.fff.ch/Content/jquery.cookie.js". Recommended content type: "application/javascript".

But by definition, this means only that the resource is compressed (Gzip).

It don't think this should be a warning.

I am getting an error:

Search engines identify unique pages by using URLs. When a single page can be accessed by using any one of multiple URLs, a search engine assumes that there are multiple unique pages. Use a single URL to reference a page to prevent dilution of page relevance. You can prevent dilution by following a standard URL format.

I am wondering how can a image user access the html url. Am I doing something wrong?

Bug: 404 Pages Report Too Much Data

This is a semi followup to my bug about 404 pages showing up as duplicates. On top of that they can show up for other validation issues, for instances if a custom error page (or no default error page) has no meta description it reports as DescriptionMissing instead of being excluded from the report other then under 404 pages.

How can I ask IIS SEO not to crawl certain files...

I ran this tool (in localhost) and am getting hundreds of error related to broken link in search.cgi, default.aspx etc. Is there any way for me to ask the SEO tool to ignore these files. I tried putting the following in the robots.txt file but of no avail:

Disallow: default.aspx
Disallow: /web/Js/
Disallow: /search.cgi

Any ideas how to avoid these...

I currently have a live website that is using webforms routing with the routing module that was part of .net 3.5 sp1.

So my urls get rerouted to the correct physical page with the querystring parameters placed in the requestcontext of the page.

i.e http://localhost/WebUI/3/Sports-Categories.aspx would get redirected to

http://localhost/WebUI/ProductList.aspx

with the underlying querystring parameter 3 getting placed in the requestcontext for the page ProductList.

Anyhow when I run the IIS Seo Toolkit against this website both on my local development machine and the live web site i get many broken link violations even though those links work fine in my web browser and they work fine when i drill into the content tab for the violation in question.

Is the seo toolkit capable of crawling pages which have been designed with webforms routing for seo purposes.

Bug: 404 Error != Duplicate Content

Of all the errors in this software (which there are considerably less of in Beta 2) this is my biggest beef. If a page or image is missing it should be considered a broken hyperlink, or error not as duplicate content. The current behavior of the website makes it very hard to analysis a massive site that has a lot of broken resources, it would make more sense to have them in separate locations rather then telling me a .js can be referenced the same way as a .pdf, .gif, .png, and whatever else may be missing on a website. Feature Request: Report Summary on Redirections

It would be nice when viewing a Site Analysis Report if under either the Content or Links dropdowns that there was a subsection called Redirect Mappings or something similar where we could see a list of all the internal redirections and where they redirect to. Cheers.

Feature Request: Advanced Setting Dropdown

It would be extremely handy under the new Advanced Settings options on the New Analysis window if there was an option to check only HTTP vs both HTTP and HTTPS. Quite often client are in proprietary eCommerce packages where we have no control over the content being on both secure and insecure versions of the website, and for SEO I only care about the HTTP portion of the site. RFC 3986 vs RFC 2396: relative URL resolution with only query component

The problem is pretty simple, but it makes loads of things completely incorrect in the report for my website.

According to RFC 2396 (http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc2396#appendix-C), http://example.com/foo containing a link to "?bar" means http://example.com/?bar. This is what the Site Analysis uses. This is not how browsers resolve this!

According to RFC 3986 (http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc3986#section-5.4), which obsoletes 2396, the link "?bar" means http://example.com/foo?bar. This is what all web browsers do.

Please correct the relative URL resolution to match browser behaviour and the most current standards. (Heaven forbid you did this deliberately to match the same bug in any/all search engines.)

Query password protected sites?

We have an internal content site that I'd like to check with the tool before publishing to an internet facing site. The internal site is password protected with Windows Integrated login. (It's Sharepoint). I'd say that isn't any different than a traditional site hosted on IIS.

Any plans to support this type of authentication or is anonymous site the only option (which makes sense in most cases).

lastmod datetime invalid according to google

When submitting a SEO Toolkit generated sitemap to google, I get a warning about the lastmod tag invalid date

looking at the w3c specs:

      YYYY (eg 1997)
      YYYY-MM (eg 1997-07)
      YYYY-MM-DD (eg 1997-07-16)
      YYYY-MM-DDThh:mmTZD (eg 1997-07-16T19:20+01:00)
      YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ssTZD (eg 1997-07-16T19:20:30+01:00)
      YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ss.sTZD (eg 1997-07-16T19:20:30.45+01:00)
these are the possible combo's

SEO toolkit does: 2009-06-07T15:54:34 and is missing TZS= time zone designator (Z or +hh:mm or -hh:mm)

So pretty much a extra Z in the end would fix this.

Hi i'm wondering if anyone can help.

i'm creating a site analysis report and it's giving me many many broken hyperlink errors. these hyperlinks are to the w3c validators.

i'm currently using iis7 on vista.

it reeposting the links as broken because my webserver is not visable to the outside world is there any way of getting the report to ignore certain hyperlinks?

Unnecessary Redirects - Advice?

Hi, I am using this tool on a shopping cart application and so far it is working great. However I am in need of advice. I have over 1000 unnecessary redirect and the following is an example. Most are simular

The link to "http://localhost:49552/blueRaw/Checkout.aspx" has resulted in HTTP redirection to "http://localhost:49552/blueRaw/UserLogin.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2fblueRaw%2fCheckout.aspx".
Search engines can only pass page rankings and other relevant data through a single redirection hop. Using unnecessary redirects can have a negative impact on page ranking.

Would the iis 7 Url Rewrite module help with this situation?

We have started looking at this tool and were wondering if the following features were available and we just havent found them yet. 1) Ability to export all results to pdf/xml/excel to be able to distribute to the marketing/seo departments 2) Ability to run the tool from Powershell and export the results 3) Ability to change rule levels (i.e. change title to long from 65 characters to 150 characters to meet our internal requirements.
