I have 2 x Win Server 2008 R2 installs.

Server 1 runs IIS 7.5

Server 2 runs SQL 2008.

I would like to install the IIS Database Manager but am not sure where to install it. I thought this would be on the IIS box (Server 1) but I get an error saying "Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Management Objects is a pre-requisit for installing IIS Database Maanager." and privides a link to the objects. I follow the link, run the x64 Management Objects install and get another error saying "Setup is missing an installation prerequisit: Microsoft SQL Server 2008 System CLR Types. This gives me another link to where I am presented with a download page full of setup files of which im not sure of which one I am suppose to install.

Are there any clear instructions I can follow somewhere?

- IIS7.5 running on server A, publishing a UNC share from server B (configurated with properly authentication for remote share)

- web site is using a connection string to a SQL Server database using the "." server (i.e. the machine itself)

The bad behaviour is that the connection is made to the SQL Server on server B. It should be made to the one on server A.

Why it happens? The web site should run on server A, so the "." alias should connect to databases on server A, not the ones on server B.

Thanks in advance

It shows up in the IIS7 manager and displays the list of databases etc.

But when I connect to the server using remote IIS7 manager, it asks me to download the binary, installs it, but when opening the Database Manager node, it throws an error:

---------------------------
Database Manager
---------------------------
There was an error while performing this operation.
Details:
Filename:
Error: The configuration section 'system.webServer/management/dbManager' cannot be read because it is missing schema
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

OK, I found the solution - the remote management service had to be restarted.

Ability to connect to networked database server

" IIS Database Manager automatically discovers databases based on the Web server or application configuration and also provides the ability to connect to any database on the network."

My IIS Manager could not discover networked servers. Of course, I presume it assumes a wired network, mine was on a WIFI network.

LocalSqlServer on Database connections

Hi all,
