I solved the problem.

I had to add "Connect as" credentials to the virtual folder in my web site.

Hello Vishal,

I also get the "Failed to download media chunk V0009" exception when I try to run smooth streaming video.

Here are tools which I use:

- Silverlight 3.0.40723.0

- IIS Media Services 2.0 RTW (x64) (April 20th, 2009)

- Web Platform Installer 2.0 RC (June 24th, 2009)

- Encoder 2 + SP1

My web site contains virtual folder which points to dfs folder (I've also tried to use shared network folder).

The web site has 'Forms' authentication mode, and it really strange, but when I login to the site I can run video, but after logout it doesn't work anymore.

I've checked 'SmoothHandler' on the virtual folder as comrade HaniAbutom noticed, but it was ok - Path=*.ism, State=Enabled, PathType=File, Handler=SmoothHandler, EntryType=Inherited

Any suggestions?

It might be because you had a web.config and you had handler section overridden in it.

Thanks for your reply. I was able to find what the problem was. It was related to the virtual site where the IIS SmoothHandler was not inherited from the main Default Web site.

I still do not know how that happened.

Thanks for trying it out. Are you doing On-demand Smooth Streaming? Also, a silly question but did you install IIS Media Services? If yes, what version?

Lastly, here is a walkthrough. Did you complete all the steps successfully?

Hi Tim,

Since I was really interested in smooth streaming, I spent the last couple of days upgrading our server to Windows 2008 and configuring IIS 7 for smooth streaming, then I followed the instructions to install Big_Buck_Bunny video, and configuring the client to stream that video. When I tried to run it first time, it just hung there with no display. After using Fiddler I figured that I should add the .ism and .ismc to the mime files, choosing text/xml as the mimetype. The problem now is I can see the .ism file being downloaded but immediately I get and AG_E_NETWORK_ERROR, though I know just using .wmv file works fine, when modifying the player to disable adaptive streaming. By the way, the video I encoded using expression encoder behaves the same way.
The Client issues no requests to the server after the .ism file is downloaded from the server,

Issuing the command

http://../../Big%20Buck%20Bunny.ism/Manifest from the browser downloads the .ism file, though I thought the .ismc file should be downloaded to the client.

I can give you a link to the server that shows the problem if you have the time to help me out.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks for providing these details.

It looks like ISA proxy in your organization is blocking these request. You will need to work with your network administrator to see what policy is restricting this.

Is it possible for you to run Fiddler (www.fiddler2.com) to see if requests are failing and what is the error code you are seeing?

Requires output to be hosted on a web server running IIS7.0 with the Smooth Streaming handler installed and a Silverlight 2 template that supports smooth streaming.

In the company where I work (where it's impossible to look to streaming video like youtube etc.) I get the same error when I'll try to look to 'Experience Smooth Streaming' page on this site.

Sample Client Issue

Howdy,

I was playing around with the sample client provided here: http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9657323 and noticed that the client doesn't function in Firefox or Chrome. In Firefox the player will load fine, but when it tries to load the stream it throws an exception:

System.Exception: Failed to download media chunk V0009 (2436000), #10 in a row.

In Chrome the browser actually crashes. The client seems to work fine in Internet Explorer, however. I was able to reproduce the error on two seperate machines with two seperate smooth streams.

The host operating system on both workstations was Server 2008 and the Firefox browser version is 3.0.8, the Chrome browser version is 1.0.154.48

That being said, has anyone else had this issue? Im assuming that another player with logging support may work fine, but I haven't yet tested it.
