We are using one "master" media server and several backup media servers, so we need to duplicate to config from the master to the backup servers, and doing a rebuild of the server everytime isn't practial. And when we get many changes at once it's to really practical to manually edit all changes on the backup servers.

Is there a solution on the way? Is this fixed in Windows 2008 R2 Media Services?

Do a clean install of WMS on a server 2008 box (delete any old servernamespace.xml)

Stop the service and copy over the old servernamespace.xml

Run WMSSErverConfig.exe /repair

and start the wMS service

This way you should not see any problem with the counters.

Re: Problem copy WMS config from antother machine, lost counters

I seem to have run into the same bug.

on a computer I lost some perfmon counters. lodctr with local ini files doesn't work. Getting the same ini in the backup format from another machine, and then running lodctr against this very ini loads the counters without a problem.

Re: Problem copy WMS config from antother machine, lost counters

After doing some digging, I somehow succeeded in fixing the problem.

The lost current counters is not only lost in the WMS snap-in it's also not showing in the list of available monitors in the Performance Monitor snap-in.

* I tried to repair the counters with lodctr /r no luck
* I tried to register the counters again with lodctr wmsperf.ini no luck
* I removed the WMS role, added it again with the copied (from another server) config file (ServerNamespace.xml) no luck
* I removed to WMS role, deleted all WMS files, added the role back again (now with the standard config file), WORKS

Now I made a backup of the counters settings with lodctr /s:<filename>, then a stopped the WMS service, replaced the copied config file, run WMSServerConfig /repair, started WMS service (all done as described in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/891773), no luck!

Now I restored the previously saved counter settings with lodctr /r:<filename>, WORKS

So does anyone have any clue what's going on? Bug?!

The problem is the current counters like:
Connected unicast clients
Current allocated badwidth

I haven't found any way to get then to work after copying the config from one machine to another.

Any suggestions? Bug?

Every time you stop and start the service the counters are reset to 0.

So there is no way to get back the counters (even on the original machine ) once you stop and start the WMS.

When I try to duplicate a WMS 9.5 config from one Windows 2008 machine to another the target machine WMS service starts without any errors, but all the Bandwidth & Client counters all show 0.

I duplicate the config by copying the ServerNamespace.xml from the originating server to the target.

Bug?

A also can't get the counters back even if a replace to original config file. Is seams that to ony solution to this is to reinstall the server. Any solution?
