IIS 7 http status 400 errors and traffic drop off

I am running windows 2008 x64 with IIS7 and .net 2.0 powered website. Default configurations are on most items. The web site is hosted on 4 identical servers operating as web farm behind a hardware loadbalancer. A firewall sites directly behind the internet router restricting access to port 80 http requests.

The primary user channel website is encountering a problem where the IIS responses to client requests just grinds to a halt.
User requests for both active and static content seem to be equally effected.

The problem lasts for a short while and has repeated 5 times in the last 2 months and seems to affect all servers at once. During the event the occurences of http status 400 errors from the httpsys log go up dramatically whilst bandwidth consumption falls. Traffic recorded in the iis logs reflects the drop in "successfull" traffic with a higher than normal level of http status 400 events being logged.

End users experience incredibly slow response times in their browsers and occasional timeouts, though occasionally some traffic was successfull was noted in the iis logs.

Extensive network diagnostics have been undertaken and Wireshark has also been logging network traffic during the last couple of events. It showed connections were being handled successfully at the stack level but a high number of RST were being sent out from the web server. The network window size reduces to a small value seemingly indicating the webservers are in distress.

The effect noted on network traffic was as if we had just gone down to running the site on a 9600Kbps dial up modem line.
A netstat on the servers revealed nearly all connections were in state TIME_WAIT.
Connecting to the TS console of the servers indicates the management network connections are unaffected and when the site is surfed from the console to localhost it responds without a problem, however (I think significantly) if i try and access the site on its [local] front end address I get a very poor response; or if i try and surf the site from one server to another using the front end addresses I get the same poor operation as the external users.

The whole problem seems to be as if there is a bottleneck appearing in the stack through to http.sys and iis which is causing new connections being operated with small window sizes.

I would drop a ferb on but the traffic is just not coming through, I have carried out quite a lot of diagnostics so far but frankly I am stumped.

Worker Processes - Unhandled win32 exception occurred in mmc.exe

We've recently upgraded to IIS7.5 running on a Windows Server 2008 R2x64 The Installation - an upgrade from Windows 2003 R2 x64 went well without any noticable exceptions. However, when we attempt to open the Worker Processes in WebServer IIS7.5 this error message appears and MMC closes..

"An unhandled win32 exception occurred in mmc.exe[5244]"

The Active Application Pools - We have two pools - both using .Net Framework 2.50727 and Managed Pipeline - Classic

any suggestions are appreciated.

Write permissions on php created folders within site..

I am running Wordpress 3.8.5 on IIs 7 Windows 2008 Server, PHP (latest stable), Mysql (latest stable). I can get everything to work properly except the following.. When my wordpress gallery page creates a new folder, permissions are not getting inherited to that folder until I literally adjust permissions by hand on my server locally. (I have a feeling it is not just my wordpress as I have several installed and all share the same issue) I am sure there is just a setting that I am missing somewhere.. I have set the permissions on the parent folder (wwwroot) for IIS_IUSER and most of the other accounts NETSERVICE, LOCALSERVICE, etc.. For some reason CHILD folders created by the website are not writable.. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

first i would say that i am an beginner with IIS7 & win7 and i have search the forum but dont found the right answer.

Normally i think is an simple problem but i can not solve to 100% alone, here it is:

I have 3 PC´s and want use 2 as IIS servers with different web sites which can be viewed from outside with different web addresses, the third pc i think is for routing the requests.

I have one static IP from outside where everyone can put in the domain name as sample myfirstsite.com this and the other sites i put on default web site on win7 and IIS7.

For routing this site i have made 2 Server farms, the first Farm1 with internal IP 192.123.123.1 and an second Farm2 with internal IP 192.123.123.2

For Farm1 i have simple rewrite rules with * wildcards and when i put in any web address i come on server1 without problems (sure all web addresses i have on routing server in default web site and on the other servers as seperate web site)

Also for Farm2 i have made rewrite rules ARR_Farm2_loadbalance with Conditions Input {HTTP_HOST} -> Matches the Pattern and www.mysite2.com as Pattern and Action route to server Farm "Scheme" http:// Farm2 "Path" /{R:0}

So far so good, when i put in www.mysite2.com i come to right IP 192.123.123.2 but if i try to put in direct Link as sample www.mysite2.com/myfile.aspx?name=myname&password=mypass i come to main page only.

Have any one an idea what i doing wrong? or what i can made better?

Server 2008 64 bit com interop

Hello All, I have a C-Sharp dll that has been working on server 2008 32 bit machine just fine. But on a Server 2008 R2 64 bit machine the dll will fail with failed to create object. Through several days of troubleshooting I'm down to this. I can regasm the dll using the dot net frame for 32 bit and using Component Services to view it, I see that it has been registered in 32 bit registry. But it still fails creating object.

I install VS2008 on the server selected the rebuild solution with register for com interop enabled. The dll works fine now. I quit vs2008 and the dll is still registered and working correctly. I unregister it and test it fails as I expect.

Now I manually register the dll from the same location as soruce successfully. I run the app and recieve the failed to create object again.

My question is what is the IDE do to register the dll as com interop behind the scenes. What am I missing in my manual process to register this on 64 bit bit machine as a 32 bit.

All help or suggestion will be appreciated.

Cannot locate inetmgr in Computer Management Console

Problems with webservice being deleted

Whenever I publish my website from inside of visual studio 2008 it causes the "application" to be deleted in IIS 7.0 and I have to set it back up. Any idea how to change what I am doing so that publishing my website wont foul up my application? I am very new to IIS 7.0 but have used IIS 6.0 for years. The so-called "application" would have been a virtual directory in 6.0, but if they didnt make the software such that you had to start over learning it with each new release they would not be MS. Anyway, thanks and any help would be much appreciated.

Not able to access web page on LAN

I am using Vista business edition and Windows 7 home premium edition.

When i am trying to access vista local host error come up with 503 services unavailable.

When i am trying to access win7 local host it works. But not able to access on my vista box on lan.

I can ping each other. But some how my vista IIS has some configuration problem and win7 not allow to access web on lan.

As i am new on web development, i try to search but no success.

Please help.

I am in the process of deploying an existing web service developed in .Net 1.1 and WSE 2.0 to IIS 7.0. When I attempt to go to the URL associated with the service I receive the following error:

HTTP Error 500.21 - Internal Server Error

Handler "WebServiceHandlerFactory-Integrated" has a bad module "ManagedPipelineHandler" in its module list.

Does anyone have information on how to resolve this problem?

Unable to view website on localhost windows 7

Can anyone tell me what else i need to do, to view the website i'm building.

Its a silverlight application which i have created using VS2008 Pro.

I have then gone into IIS manager version 7.5 created a new website on d drive mapped path to folder yournews.web added host header(yournews) so that i can run site on port 80, i've opened up port 80 on mcafee firewall and enabled world wide web services in windows firewall, but when i browse to http://localhost/yournews/index.aspx i get the following message.

The resource cannot be found.

Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly.

I'm not sure what else to do, any help would be appreciated.

www service and Server side includes not visible

Hi,

I'm trying to set up a MCMS (Microsoft Content Management Server)
development environment on a machine running Vista Beta 2.

I have added feature IIS including World Wide Web Services and ASP,
ASP.NET, Server-Side Inludes etc. Still I get an error from MCMS
install stating that:
- Need World Wide Web Services
- Need Server Side Includes

I have enabled ASP and ASP.Net in IIS Manager, what else do I need for
MCMS (and others) to see that WWW service and Server Side Includes are
in fact available?

IIS7 hangs occasionally

Hello! I am having one very annoying problem here with my IIS. From time to time, web site just won't open. It works good, after a period of time it just hangs and no one can access it. Status bar just says "Waiting for www.site.com" and then informs me that browser cannot display the page. I leave it like that and after a couple of minutes it works again as new. Site works OK if I browse it directly on server when this happens, I can access internet too... I also tried accessing using IP address of server, still no luck. This server is located in other country where our client resides, and all of their clients are having the same problem trying to access the site. IIS also hosts some web services that are being used by a desktop application. IIS is hosting one MVC site and a couple of web services. Site is working under one application pool and web services under another. I looked at the event log in detail – nothing interesting there. I tried everything I had on my mind trying to find something that might cause this to happen, but with no luck. There is no specific action that causes this to happen! virtual website definition headache

I'm unable to successfully define and access a virtual website using IIS 7 on my Vista x64 OS. At this point I'm getting "Service Unavailable. HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable." I've simplified the page I'm trying to access, test.htm, to include one word only, "hello". I've been fighting this for well over one month, no joke or exageration!

I defined a virtual website under Default Web Site in IIS. The physical path is C:\Users\ibacondors\StratDraft and alias is stratdraft4. Since the machine is password protected I use the "connect as..." button when defining the virtual directory. The test settings says everything is ok. Then I try browsing to localhost/stratdraft4/test.htm and get the 503 error.

The logs below summarize the error. The system log says "The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID
{8BC3F05E-D86B-11D0-A075-00C04FB68820}
to the user ibacondors-PC\ibacondors SID (S-1-5-21-1794062184-2663087109-3852190141-1000) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool."

What application? How do I find and correct the application-specific permission settings?

IIS7 don't bake cookie

Hi.

I'm make my ISAPI filter for IIS7(WIndows server 2008 x64). But got a problem.

The problem is that Request Header do not include cookie.

But, correct operation different Env. such as IIS6.

Why this is happens?

p.s : now, using another filter is ASP.Net_2.0.50727.0 and ASP.Net_2.0.50727-64.

ManagedPipelineHandler is causing my pages to fail

Hello Forum,

My name is Chris and I work for a real estate photography company managing a website at http://www.prohomesites.com/.

My site has run perfectly for over a year, and recently, within the last two weeks, my server has started refusing connections at random. The server is not under high load at all, only a few thousands hits a week.

Through my research and debugging, I can consistently hang an entire worker process, and make it incapable of receiving requests.

I am using IIS7, seperate App pools, integrated mode. Keep in mind this has worked FLAWLESSLY for OVER A YEAR!! No changes had been made to the config settings or source code until after the problem began.

The easiest way to replicate is to use my Flash based multiple file upload page. It uploads a file, then when that request is finished, it uploads the next, until all images have been uploaded. This has never failed before, but now it will fail on the first file about 20% of the time, and it will ALWAYS fail on the second.

In IIS, it shows as a request under the Worker Process section and just continually counts up the time elapsed until it is well over 500 seconds and then it will terminate it. I am running failed request logging on ALL requests to the UploadPhoto.ashx handler. IT DOES NOT LOG AS A FAILED REQUEST, IIS NEVER REALIZES IT FAILED.

The request will hang on State "ExecuteRequestHandler" in Module Name "ManagedPipelineHandler".

I hooked up remote debugging to see where in the code it is hanging. it is hanging on

context.Request.Files

The first run through the code, if it works, it runs this just fine, and grabs the first file to copy it to the right folder. By entering context.Request.Files in a watch field on the first run it indicates what knd of object it is.

When the second file begins its upload, this call hangs the worker process. Attempting to do a watch through the debugger on context.Request.Files results in a function evaluation timeout.

What the hell happened to cause this. The only POSSIBLE item that could have changed to cause this is a WINDOWS UPDATE.

I have also read every thread on this forum that has the text "ExecuteRequestHandler" and "ManagedPipelineHandler" and checked all my configs to make sure they match the recommendations offered by those threads. They do. The managedpipelinehandler is configured right in the machine config.

302 Redirect instead of 301

Hello.
We have the web-server with Windows 2008 Server + IIS 7 + php 5.2.11 installed.
The problem is, that when we attempt to redirect with 301 status, 302 status is received by client.

PHP-code:

header("Location: $new_path");

We have tried a lot with alternatives of transmitting headers, but result is always 302 redirect.

How can we solve this problem? What is the reason for the wrong status message, transmitted to the client?

There's plenty of information out there about this error. I haven't seen anything specific to IIS7. The error is random, but after it happens once, it continues for every subsequent request until the site is restarted. We have 3 servers in a farm, this happens on all of them. We are on 2008 64bit. App pool is in Integrated mode and the app pool identity is Network Service. Some pages use impersonation on a different user. I have given both of these users full access to the Temporary ASP folders, there is no active virus scan, indexing is off... I've been working at this for a week and everyday I think its fixed, and every morning I get back in to this happening on a server or 2. Also this is only happening in our production environment, our other environments are not experiencing this.

Can't see webpage LocalHost, but can externally

This has to be the strangest error I have ever ran into. I can enable default website IIS has and view it at LocalHost, 127.0.01, or IP, but my website I cannot. I have tried using 127.0.0.0:80/FilePath and it still returns a 404 but when I use my external IP I can see it just fine. Another issue maybe related I a FTP server which was running smoothly until a IP from china and one from Poland started to break in. According to logs they never passed through but afterwards these problems arrived. Now I can't log into FTP even using anonymous with all users access. Even started fresh and enabled everyone still no go. Get the 530 home directory inaccessible IP restrictions bla bla. Tried just about everything and can not figure it out. Made sure bindings were correct on both even mimic the default web site with my web site to no avail. Currently running a system restore because I can't stand the headaches anymore lol but if anyone has any idea why this might have occurred so I can make sure to correct it if it ever were to occur again please tell! I even tried to put my ip in my host file but did nothing. So to re-iterate: Cannot view web page from localhost, 127.0.0.1, :1, IP, and IP with filepath. Also, could not sign into my FTP server even with all settings set back to default. Again this occurred shortly after the two hackers tried to break in and I have now blocked them through router, firewall, and IIS so hopefully that will keep them held back for a while. Any info is greatly welcomed!

IIS FTP 7.5 Active mode not working except from localhost

Win 2008 x64 and IIS FTP 7.5 with multiple sites on it, all working in passive mode. In active mode, I'm able to work only from the server itself (command line ftp), from other clients I get error n.425 Cannot open data connection (Filezilla).

Windows firewall is disabled on server and on clients. AV on clients disabled.

Server and clients are all on the same subnet.

Anyone can help?

Problem w/ IIS7 and Post and SSL

I have a Rest API implemented in WCF. I have a upload limit of 50KB when uploading using SSL but when I don't use ssl i can upload around 25MB. I have turned on iis7 tracing this is the only odd warning that i get:

IIS 7.5 404 error when redirecting from ASP.NET to Classic ASP

I have Windows 7 x64 Ultimate installed on my development box. I've done everything needed to get Classic ASP as well as .NET running on my system. I'm developing in Visual Studio 2008 SP1. Me web site has a default page that has a frameset on it. In the frameset, after authorization, one frame redirects from an ASP.NET page to a Classic ASP page. This returns a 404 error to the screen. If I copy and paste the URL shown in the error page, I can get to the page just fine. Of course, since it expects to be in a frameset, it doesn't work quite right. I do have parameters on the URL (in the query string) but i don't think that's causing the problem.

Has anyone heard of this or have any suggestions?
