Hello,

I'm using IIS 7 with FTP 7.5 and was wondering does anyone know of a way of being able to develop a HTTP front end for a secure FTP server?

I currently have a farm of secure FTP servers, however I constantly have to support people trying to connect to thse servers - whether its their firewall, not using the right FTP clients etc.

So I was thinking if I could publish a web front end, allowing them to enter there username/password it would be able to connect to the ftp backend and allow uploading/downloading of files.

Anyone know of a feature like this?

Windows 7 FTP problems

I am trying to access the FTP sites on localhost using VBScript, but

GetObject( "IIS://localhost/msFTPsvc")

refuses to cooperate. I have set up as identical a configuration possible on a Vista box, and had no problems.

For each machine, I turned on these features:
   Internet Information Services: default subfeatures
    FTP Publishing service: both subfeatures
    Web Management Tools: All subfeatures (including IIS 6 Management compatibility)

Images: Vista's feature setup Win7's feature setup

Went to IIS manager, turn on FTP publishing for the default web site (in vista, via the IIS manager 6.0; in win7, via the IIS Manager, Default web site\Add FTP publishing)

Now I have a script to run to find the default FTP site (link). On vista, it works perfectly. On 7, it fails at:

GetObject( "IIS://localhost/msFTPsvc")

Custom FTP User isolation in IIS 7.5

Hello,

I would like to configure custom FTP user isolation, so that users could access only their folder under FTP root folder.

FTP root folder is d:\ftp\ftpsrv, under it, I would like to create subfolders based on usernames (d:\ftp\ftpsrv\%USERNAME%). I can't configure this with any of preconfigured options (user isolation creates %FtpRoot%\%UserDomain%\%UserName% for domain users, I need it without %UserDomain%).

Can you please help me?

WebDAV fails move_coll operation

I am getting a "400 Bad Request" error message when trying to use the new WebDAV 7.5 extension for IIS 7.0 on Windows Server 2008. I can successfully mount the WebDAV directory as a drive on both my Mac and PC and am able to run git clone http://.... without problems from either machine. But when I try to git push I receive an error message stating that the WebDAV server was unable to "MOVE pathA to pathB with overwrite". When I run litmus, it errors out on the move_coll operation with the "400 Bad Request" mentioned earlier.

Now I've tried to workaround this by mounting the WebDAV first (WebDAV Redirector on Windows, and Apple webdavfs on Mac) and then run git against this mounted volume. This works on Mac, but NOT on Windows.

From Mac I can mount_webdav http://... ~/mnt/MountPoint and then git clone --no-hardlinks ~/mnt/MountPoint and my git push commands work fine. (At least so far they work...either Apple's webdavfs doesn't use the move_coll operation or I just haven't caused it to do so yet)

From Windows I can net use T: http://.... but the T: drive letter does not appear to mount in the same way as normal remote SMB shares do and thus it is unaccessible from the msysgit bash shell. (Anyone know what makes LANMan Redirector shares accessible but not WebDAV Redirector shares?)

Has anyone found a workaround that allows git to use the WebDAV directory on IIS 7 directly? (i.e. either supporting the move_coll operation or forcing git around it)

Hosting multiple web sites

I have a Windows server 2008 machine and I would like to have both my intranet and internet stored on this computer and be able to access both of them from any client machine.

I can not seem to figure out the correct way to configure them so this works.

I can only view my default website, I can not see the other one. Any help on this would be great

Deploying Silverlight Application On IIS7.0 and Windows server 2008R2

Hi All, I am able to deploy SL application on IIS6.0 on Win 2003. Right now i am trying to deploy same application on IIS7.0 and Windows server 2008R2 , I am able to see only loginscreen and dashboard but no data init (I am using Ria Services) Every thing is fine with Mime and Version of application . I even tried Execute permissions both scripts and also scripts and Execute no luck. Even used fiddler to check traffic and errors i didt find any errors. Any help is appretiated. Thanks in advance

FTP administrator access

With IIS6 I had virtual directory with the name of "administrator" which pointed at the root of all virtual directories in FTP site. It worked well for administrator access to all websites (not necessary to know all the users usernames&passwords).

I have successfully implemented FTP Publishing service 7.5 with multiple accounts and redirecting users to their individual directory works fine. However, because it automatically reads folder structure this works fine when actual directories exist.

But for administrator no such directory will ever exist, it should point him to the top level (root) folder of the FTP site.

ms web expression, uploading a file, server returned an invalid response

iis7.5 64bit with webdav installed and (so i thought) working. I can open the site up in ms web expression 3.0 fine and i can open/save existing files fine. however, i can not create new files or upload files. I tried uploading a jpg and web expression came back and said there was an invalid response from the server. I checked the server log files and this is whats there:

what do i have to do to enable ms web expression to be able to both upload files as well as save new files to the website? In the webdav authoring rule, i have it set to 'all content' and 'read, source, write'.

not sure what else to check at this point.

IIS FTP or FileZilla? Multiple FTP Accounts

I am using Windows 2008 Server Standard and IIS7.

I am trying to create multiple FTP web sites, one for each web site. I have only one IP.

I think the port for FTP is 21.

Is it possible to create multiple ftps like:

ftp.domain1.com, ftp.domain2.com using the same IP and Port?

I suppose that is the only option I have.

Probably I should use some binding?!

The VPS I am working has FileZilla installed because they said it was better then using FTP in IIS because it does allow only one account ...

I thinks this is strange. Is this true?

It seems to install, but I didn't get the final screen that says it is done. The windows just disappeared. FPSE Install - Missing "Microsoft SharePoint Administrator" link in Administrative Tools

I have a fresh Windows Web Server 2008 R2 install. I have installed RTR FPSE (from an elevated command prompt) and and installation completes without errors. However, the section of the install page titled "Using HTML Administration Pages to Extend a Web Site" indicates that I should be able to extend a web site by:

"Click Start, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Microsoft
SharePoint Administrator to open the Server Administration page."

The problem is that I don't have a "Microsoft SharePoint Administrator" entry in Administrative Tools group.

Any thoughts?

530 valid hostname is expected error on browser

I've done the settings for my ftp server ftp.ermanakkaya.net and i can connect using a program-cuteftp. The problem is when i write the address on my browser an alert opens saying valid hostname is expected. I'm using windows web server 2008 r2, iis 7.0, ftp publishing service, i use an iis account for my ftp service.

Hi, Basically I'm trying to do on IIS 7 what this guy suggest in this howto for IIS 6 (http://windowsitpro.com/article/articleid/49847/webdav-for-remote-access.html) which is to give my domain users access to different file servers through a single webdav server. Obviously, it requires mapping remote shares in IIS 7. I'm trying to do this using ssl. It should all be pretty strait forward but for some reason it does not work. It seems that, using pass-through authentication, even if I give the webdav server machine account access to the shares I want to make available, I can't authenticate properly. The server keep asking me for proper authentication while giving me a 401 error. Note that all servers and client sit in the same domain. Anyone know the path to an howto document on that subject ? Any cues will be welcome. Thank's Benoit

FPSE is gone, what to do next?

Presently, we host multiple sites on IIS 6 with FPSE as the way we manage user permissions and content migration. With the only option to use FPSE on IIS 7 being a third-party fix, we're not too keen on that idea.

With a content publishing requiment consisting of both internal and external users hitting a machine that is not in the domain (it's a public-facing box in the DMZ) is WebDAV or FTP a better choice? We're not really looking to WSS or any of its cousins as a possibility here.

FTP using IIS

I am using IIS, with the ftp publishing service. I cannot work out how to get ftp set up on the 3 websites i have working on my windows server 2008 standard edition. I can ftp to one site but not the others it is probably to do with using virtual directories to differentiate between the websites or something like that. Any suggestions would be very welcome?

Host Header Routing - (NOT HOSTING MULTIPLE SITES ON ONE IIS SERVER)

Here is a quick rundown of what I have and what I’m trying to do.

Server1: 192.168.2.2

Server2: 192.168.2.3

Router:

Internal IP: 192.168.2.1

External IP: 74.1.1.1

Website1: www.yo.com

Website2: www.yo2.com

Is there any hardware/software out there that can route host headers to physically different IIS server or is there a way to setup front end with multiple backend IIS Servers like exchange?

www.yo.com--->74.1.1.1--->192.168.2.2

www.yo.com--->74.1.1.1--->192.168.2.3

This is what I’m trying to accomplish. I don’t want something shady like hosting a website on a different port. How does a webhosting company accomplish this?

IIS 7.5 with .Net 4 Beta 2 - Do I Need Web Deployment Tool still

Hi, with IIS 6 and 7 the separately installed Web Deployment Tool allowed within inetmgr/iis manager to select a web site and get an Action group called "Deploy" to Export or Import a Package. This would happily build the manifests to go along with my files.

I now have a system with IIS 7.5 and .NET Framework 4 beta 2 installed (and registered). I kind of assumed all that would grant powershell and ms deploy access; do I need to install Web Deployment Tool as well, to see export/import package options, and in order to be a destination provider of an Msdeploy action, or perhaps adjust some handler mapping?

Hi all,

I have an IIS7.5 server that's correctly serving up aspx and php pages. But I'm running into a problem trying to edit some of the pages using either vs2010beta2 or web expression 3.

I cant open the site at all using vs2010b2 - complains about the fp extensions not being installed. I'm using webdav instead.

So i tried using web expression. When ever i try to save a php file i get the following error: The page you are looking for cannot be displayed because an invalid method (HTTP verb) is being used.

I can however save an aspx page. I'm guessing it has something to do with the php handler mapping, but i'm not sure what since it's set to allow all verbs. its set to use the fastcgi handler.

Any ideas whats going wrong here?

IIS 7 Webdav Connection Issue

I am having issues connecting to webdav in iis 7 using Windows XP

If i use net use * http://computername/folder everything works fine

If i use net use * http://computername.domain/folder i get a system error 5 error

If i use net use * http://computeripaddress/folder i get a system error 5 error as well

The webdav server is using windows authentication and works as expected from a windows 7 computer.

Ok, I've been rummaging around looking for help on this. I'm running SBS08 with IIS7. This is a 64bit OS. Am I just SOL or is there actually a way to extend a website with the FP server extensions so I can connect with Visual Web Developer?

This seems to be revolving around C:\Windows\system32\RpcProxy\RpcProxy.dll and so far, I have not found a solution.

I would really like to get this resolved so I can get back to working on my website as there are several improvements I would like begin working on.

WebDAV in IIS 7.0 - authoring rule not working - Access is Denied - bug?

This is something I was really frustrated by and wanted to share.

I've tried this on two Windows 2008 servers with the same behavior. WebDAV doesn't seem to recognize users in the Administrators group when using authoring rule that specifies user groups (the built in administrator account appears to work though). Haven't tested it, but maybe it doesn't work for any groups?

What I did:

1) Installed WebDAV 7.5.
2) Created authoring rule that allowed access to content and selected "Specified roles or user groups", added the administrators group.
3) Setup virtual directory in website (/webdav).
4) Attempted to connect from Win XP to webdav folder typing in "net use z: http://websitedomain.com/webdav /user:admin2 password" (admin2 is a user in the administrators group
5) Also couldn't connect using Windows Vista

Got this error Error:

System error 5 has occurred.
Access is denied.

If I change the authoring rule to "All users" or add admin2 into "Specified users" it works like a charm, so it doesn't seem to be an NTFS permissions or Authentication issue.

Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

setting up ftps on IIS 7.5 using Explicit/passive modes

I am trying to set up an ftps server using IIS 7.5 so a vendor can post large files to our servers. I have installed everything and it seems to be working for my point of view. I have installed coreftp and filezilla on my PC and I am able to login and transfer files. However when my vendor logs in they are having some issues that I can figure out. Windows firewall is turned off and the public firewall is doing a port forward. I am going to post his email.

I first did a test to replicate your symptoms. It timed out after five minutes. I increased the time out value to ten minutes (600 seconds). I got a response from that server after three minutes which reset the timer but it timed out after ten minutes. Then I looked closer at the server messages. Their PASV message contains their public IP address (x.x.x.x) and the port is in the range they specify (49152-65535). Everything is fine so far.

However, the server message received to both a Passive and Active mode is the same. We should be getting an immediate reply code (125) stating the listing has started.

I did a packet trace which shows the mainframe sends out the data channel connection attempt (SYN packet) six times but never gets a response (SYN ACK packet) before it times out.

I do not know if their firewall is blocking the data channel connection attempt or their server isn’t responding or if its response is not making it back through their firewall. With the 150 message indicating it is trying to connect to us as if this were Active mode, the server may not be operating properly.

Set timer value to ten minutes (default is five)
