&lt;p&gt;It doesn&amp;#39;t.&amp;nbsp; IIS only knows IP addresses and only answers on the IP addresses you have set it to.&amp;nbsp; Name resolution, primarily through DNS, resolves the dhost name to the IP address.&amp;nbsp; If your DNS entry is wrong or missing for the host name, then what you describe is what happens.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;I want have a web application that is installed on my default website (IQReservations)&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;When I type in server.mydomain.com, I get to the RWW login.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;How does IIS7 decide which site you land on when you use a specific hostname?&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;When I use the servers IP address, I can get to the web application (serverip/IQReservations), but when I use the FQDN, I get a 404...&lt;/p&gt;</description></item></channel></rss>
