I am trying to build and publish my web app. When I do a publish (via ftp) to the Main Server I get the message that the publish failed, but get no further information: But I am able to publish Locally and to other server the same application.

Hi,

Before I go nuts trying to break this, let me ask the real experts on this forum:

I'm trying to publish via FTP from VS 2008, to a Windows Server 2003 (Datacenter R2), running IIS 6.0. I have extendede the website. When trying to publish a ASP.NET website, I simply get:

Error: The operation could not be completed. Unspecified error

Actually some of the files are published, but not all.

When trying to publish a web service via FTP to a site on the same server, I get:

Unable to add 'Billing.asmx' to the Web site. Could not find a Web server at '174.129.202.119' on port 21. Please check to make sure that the Web server name is valid and your proxy settings are set correctly. If you are sure that everything is correct, the Web server may be temporarily out of service.

Again, some files published, but not the .asmx file.

Earlier I had an error about not allowing executables for a specific folder, but that disappeared after I changed to "Script only" on the website properties.

ANY idea on my inability to publish would really be greatly appreciated.

Usage Summary not working after installing Server Extensions 2002 on Server 2003 standard

I have a problem with any of the Usage reports working. I installed Server Extensions 2002 on my Server2003, extended them, turned on the usage settings on the server.

when I open my remote site in Frontpage 2003 EVERYTHING else works on my site EXCEPT when i try to run a usage summary. hit counters work, feedback forms, site summary, problems, work flow...everything works BUT the usage summary and everything under it like summary, page hits, visitors, etc....

when I click on usage summary (any time frame) the page just says "there is no usage available because no data is being collected for this website. to collect usage data, contact the server admin"

i am obviously missing a step SOMEWHERE here...any insight would be great!!!

Publishing pages from VS2005 to ISS on Windows 2000 Server

While publishing a web project to the IIS on windows2000 server using the default publishing wizard, certain files do not seem to be copied across correctly within the IIS domain. These files are being copied but the location to these files is still pointing to the development environment path.

Also there are a set of dll files that are copied to the bin directory correctly by the wizard. However these dll files do depend on the custom XML configuration files. These XML files are not being published by default from the development environment. Do these files need to be copied accross manually? Is there any dependency log generated by the wizard to cross check?

Any help for this assistance would be highly appreciated,

IIS Port problem

Hi guys,

When i try to start up a ftp site on port 21 it gives me the following error:

" This ftp site cannot be started. Another ftp psite may be using the same port"

I deleted the site that also was using port 21 and restarted IIS but still getting the same error, can you please help me?

I have configured a WebDAV folder on my Windows 2003 R2 Enterprise x64 Edition Service Pack 2 Server. This is hosted as a dedicated server on public IP. This server is configured as a Workgroup. The target folder is on Drive E and NTFS permision has ben given.

I have created a username/password in Computer Management and given this user NTFS rights to access this folder.

In the IIS Properties, i have enabled Anonymous Access and given this user name and password.
Authenticated Access is not selected.

My problem ::

When i connect from my web client, i am able to connect to the WebDAV folder, but it is not asking for my username/password.

I do a problem that's I do not really understand. I installed a FTP server on Windows Server 2003. I would like to enable anonymous access on the FTP server. Here are my tests:

C: \ Documents and Settings \ Admin> ftp localhost
Connected to ServerName.
220 Microsoft FTP Service
User (ServerName: (none)): anonymous
331 Anonymous access allowed, send identity (e-mail name) as password.
Password:
530 User Anonymous can not log in.
Login failed.
ftp>

The same user that is used for anonymous in the IIS console:

C: \ Documents and Settings \ Admin> ftp localhost
Connected to ServerName.
220 Microsoft FTP Service
User (ServerName: (none)): any
331 Password required for any.
Password:

The password is configured in the IIS console, the anonymous access is enabled and the user has the NTFS permissions on the directory. This server is on a domain.

FrontPage Extensions HTTP Error 401.1

I'm having the exact same problem, but it seems to be limited to virtual sites that are using host headers as opposed to listening on a unique IP address. Such as...

1. In IIS Manager, right-click Web Sites -> New -> Web Site
2. Fill out info & listen on unique IP address (already configured in TCP/IP network properties). Point to a new root web directory..
3. All Programs -> Administrative Tools -> Microsoft SharePoint Administrator (http://localhost:6109/fpadmdll.dll)
4. Click Extend to create FrontPage Server Extensions 2002 on the new virtual server.
5. Set an admin user (HOSTNAME\Administrator).
6. Click the new virtual server via SharePoint admin page.. links to:
http://<website-url>/_vti_bin/_vti_adm/fpadmdll.dll?page=webadmin.htm
This page prompts for UserName/Password. Enter HOSTNAME\Administrator & password. Displays website administration page (Works fine).

When I repeat the same steps using host header instead of a unique IP at Step 2, instead of properly displaying the admin config page at step 6, I keep getting the prompt to enter Username/Password 3 times until it finally results in:
HTTP Error 401.1 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials.

NOTE: This only happens if I attempt to run the SharePoint Administration from the the host the web sites are installed on. Accessing the virtual web site administration from a remote host works fine:
http://<website-url>/_vti_bin/_vti_adm/fpadmdll.dll?page=webadmin.htm

I can only guess the SharePoint is having trouble resolving the use of the host headers.

Access Internal Web Application Externally

Good Day All.

I would like if someone could provide me with instructions in getting the following configuration working.

I currently have a calendar service that I run on my internal network under the address http://corporatecalendar. Now internally it works like a charm and my users are happy. What I would like to have happen now is that if they are outside the office, then can then use http://www.nameofmycompany.com/calendar and have the service work just like inside.

Persons are saying use redirect, but if they are outside and I use redirect, then the internal addressing is what will be used and then they will not be able to access the service because the internal name is not accessible outside.

Can someone please help out with this issue. I want to be able to use the external address and have the application run as if its being accessed from inside. Hope I explained it correctly.

II6 Simultaneous ftp file uploads

HI Here is the scenario: I have multiple ftp virtual directories, running in IIS6 Windows 2003 server. Each directory is configured for jpeg file uploads to it, at frequency of 1 image per second (20K size each image). (to be exact these are Network Cameras uploading jpeg recording snap shots every second) Now if i have only two to three cameras simultaneously uploading images to their respective virtual directory, there isn't any problem but when the number increases to as many as ten simultaneous cameras, a delay of 5-6 seconds starts appearing between file uploads. Whats puzzling is that LAN is Gigabit, that shows only 0.16% utilization, processor is also only at 1-2% and there is nothing significant in memory consumption as well. Then why is there so much of delay when simultaneous clients increase? where the delay could be coming from and how to optimize that? Any Ideas?

cannot connect to ftp site(s)

I'm working through IE8 and always get "Internet Explorer cannot display this page" message when I type in (correctly) the ftp site address.

I saw some previous discussions on this, but have not found any workable solutions so far.

I work for a client who requires me to post my completed documents and graphics to their ftp site, but I cannot get to the site.

I have tried FileZilla, and it was fine for a while, now it will not connect either.

I'm not high-end computer savvy, so clear, basic explanations will be helpful.

IIS6 FTP: howto to have 1 folder linked to all FTP-Accounts

Hi there,

We have IIS6 FTP server running for 6 users. There Homedir is on another maschine. This works fine.

Now, I want to have a folder somewhere, which is vissible to all 6 users after they have logged in to the FTP server. Like a shared "public" (common) folder, where we put read-only stuff thats of interest to all of them .

Is there a way in IIS6 to do this? I read somewhere that virtual dirs might be the solution, but so far I failed...

WebDav / Read-Only

Hello all,

I'm having issues with certain users not being able to open files (Excel spreadsheets) for edit via WebDav. For them, the files open with a [Read-Only] flag. For others the files open normally. A snippet of the IIS log follows. Names were changed to protect the innocent. "User1" gets the file as read-only. "User2" is good. Both users are running the same client setup, XP, IE 6.0, Office 2003 SP3, yet their requests come across very different. Why would this be? Also, where can I find a reference to what the substatus codes mean (eg 207 0 64).

disconnected from ftp after 10 minutes

when I want to upload a very large file, I'll be diconnected from the ftp server (7.5) after a while.

Does somebody know what's the problem is ? Or how can I know exactly what's the reason is of the disconnection ?

Help needed Configuring IIS to publish website on the net

Hi,

I need help from a patient IT person out there in solving this problem. I have had a home server machine for over a year now, and have been trying to get it online so I can use it, along with other members of my dev team for testing purposes. Problem is I have still not been able to successfully get the machine online, as in broadcast the application over the internet via IIS. Since the site is built using .NET technology, I am unable to use APACHE server which seems to be more straightforward. The machine currently runs Windows Server 2003. I already have a Website folder created and all and the machine is online. I just need to be able to view my site from a remote location by maybe typing the computer address or a domain name to view it and possible test it. How can I do this please? Thanks in advance!

Publish Problem - exe.config not allowed to download

I have problems installing my smartclient application on a windows 2003 server with iis 6. i get error when client wants to download the ...exe.config file. For Vista and iis 7 we found a solution:

%windir%\system32\inetsrv\appcmd.exe set config -section:system.webServer/security/requestFiltering /-fileExtensions.[fileExtension='.config']

pity this is not working with iis 6 . Anyone knows a solution for my problem?Thx

WebDAV and URLAuth

Hi,

I'm currently trying to set up a WebDAV to access files held on a fileserver. I've got it all working when URLAuth isn't in the picture - kerberos delegation of credentials all the way through etc. I need to include some form of access control on the URL itself - DACLs on the file system aren't enough for what I need.

URLAuth looked promising - it's installed and configured properly. It even works providing users don't want to upload files. And that's the problem.

I've been through the normal MS guide to setting it up, read all the docs I can find etc and there's nothing out there that either says it isn't possible or tells me how to do it!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

WebDAV on IIS 6.0 and RTF files

I have enabled WebDAV on my web server working under IIS 6.0, created virtual directiry (application) under web site (authorization type Anonymous (IUSR_***) was choosen). Server located in DMZ but I can open all files from this my web share from internal computers without problem. I can copy, delete etc files. I can edit .doc, .xls, .ppt files. A problem is that I always getting error messages "File was not saved" when I try to save .rtf files - although in reality all changes saved. I got no erros when I edit other types office documents.

What may be a reason?

WebDAV and Navigation issues in Microsoft Word

Due to some recent changes and updates we have decided to give WebDAV a try on our local intranet site running IIS 6 on Win2k3r2 . All appears to be working. User pulls up a page they want to edit in IE8, clicks Edit with Microsoft Office Word, the site opens ready to edit using integrated authentication. The issue come when they attempt to link a file or another webpage.

For example:

they open http://intranet/work_instructions/machining/index.htm

They want to link a document located in ../assembly/newdoc.pdf

When they click create hyperlink the box that appears restricts navigation to higher directories in the file structure and down into another branch of the directory tree. Is there a way to tell WebDAV to always look at the website's root path eg http://intranet/ when it creates the temporary mount instead of http://intranet/work_instructions/machining/ ?

I've been racking my brains over this for a week now and I need some help as deadlines are coming closer and closer.

WebDAV Allowed, but not working

IIS 6.0, WebDAV installed and Allowed, but no evidence that it's working. I tried to telnet and did an OPTIONS / as suggested here and got a very vanilla response: no PROPFIND, no DAV or MS-Author-Via headers. It's like it's not there.

URLScan is not installed. FrontPage Server Extensions and SharePoint are, but Prohibited.

What's the next step in the differential diagnosis?

HI, after configuring IIS I set up a site and two FTP virtual accounts, I was able to connect before hand but for some reason now I cant connect via FTP?? what can I do to find out what it is???
