I have a directory set up under wwwroot in IIS 5 on Windows Server 2000. Directory security is set to "Basic authentication." A user account on the domain has read & execute permissions on an ASP file in the directory, on the directory itself, and on wwwroot. But when I try to access that ASP page through my browser, it prompts me for the user's credentials three times and then I get a plain error message: Times New Roman, default font size, upper left corner: "Error: Access is Denied". That's it. Even with custom 401 errors pages set up. This happens even if the ASP page has nothing but open and close tags .

When I try to navigate to an HTML page, or an .asp page with nothing but HTML in it, the user authenticates just fine. So for some reason this user doesn't have permission to execute ASP. But I can not figure out how to give this user that permission.

In the IIS web logs, I see that a 401 occurred, but cannot identify the type of 401 (it's IIS 5).

Any help would be appreciated.
