Problem accessing intranet sites on network

I have intranet site setup on my computer using IIS 5.1. When I type http://192.168.1.109 on my address bar , then I can see website successfully, but I have onther computer on my network, when I tried to acces that intranet sites from another computer on my network, then it says that page can not be disaplay,

Some one help me out on this, what do I do so I can have access to that intranetsites on my network

Need to reference a file OUTSIDE my current virtual directory - how?

So my site is:

Default Webssite -> MainCompanyPortal -> MySite

I need to reference a file in Default Webssite -> MainCompanyPortal\SomeFile.aspx

How can I reference that from inside ->MySite?

Say I want to make a URL link to it in ASP.NET, but I don't have a full www.mycompany.com/SomeFile.aspx as the domain could change, but I know it will always be in the higher directory.

Would I make a NEW cirtual directory inside my current site and point that up a level? That seems sort of odd doesn't it?

What about a more direct reference? Can I call another virtual directory by name?

unable to reset IIS via a BAT file

I have a BAT file that I want to use to reset IIS every night on my server. The bat file looks like this:

@echo off
IISRESET /RESTART
:EXIT

The server is W2k3, SP1, IIS 6 however, if I take that same .bat file and run it locally on my desktop (Win XP Pro, IIS 5.1), it runs correctly but on the server it just hangs.

Does anyone have any ideas on what could cause this bat file to hang on my server?

I would like to know if IIS 6 supports downloads of large files (100 - 300 MB). Can it be set up in such a way that it allows users to resume broken downloads?

If this option exists: is it enabled by default? Any information concerning the issue would be appreciated.

Configurable Application pool identity Problem

Hello there, I've got a problem with my IIS configuration. Not sure I'm in the appropriate section :s

So here's the original configuration:

Windows Server 2003 on a Domain
IIS 6.0
Using ASP.NET 2.0
Testing with IE 6

IIS Configuration :
Using port 8090
Read authorization
Execute permissions: Scripts only
Integrated Windows authenctication only (using domain account)
AppPool: Default configuration with predefined Local System account.

So with that configuration everything is working fine. Except that now I need to access a shared folder (with restrict access) on an other server. So I thought I tried to played with Impersonisation and Delegation to access the shared folder, but since I don't have access to the Active Directory, I can't do that.

So now, I'm trying to use a configurable account for the application pool identity that would have the Rights to access the shared folder.
At first I spécified the new account and got the error message "Service Unavailable" in my browser. Figureout that I've to put the appPool account it in the IIS_WPG group.

And now I'm stuck with a popup asking a login/password when I try to access the website .... Whatever account I use, I always fails to login and got the message "You are not authorized to view this page" after 3 attempt.

In the IIS logs we can see 2 errors 401.1 and 401.2 (2148074254)

Is there a max. size of a website being hosted on IIS 6? I have several that are 14+g and they are having permission issues that I believe is related to their size. Is this possible?

I have created an web application in C#,

i have deployed the application on the IIS 6.0 and it is running fine, for eg: http://xxx.xxx.xxx.80/TestApplication

but my requirement is, there should be 2 servers

1. Web server

2. Application server

Web server which should contain the url and application server which should hold the actual code of the application and it will be inside the network. So that web the web application is called by any user then it will be calling my web server and it will forward the request to application server.

can any one help me in this regard.

like if i type www.abc.com (on IIS) it will redirect call to website on apache server (on port 8080)

This looks like an IIS problem, but i need help please. On the server itself, the CRM application works fine, but when accessing it from the internet i received the error mentionded.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Two Web Remote Access Servers on Small Net

I am attempting to deploy Web Desktop Remote access on two different XP Pro machines on the same small business network in part to access them after hours for support purposes.

The IIs services have been successfully installed and Port assignments successfully configured on Machine A and test connections and logins from the remote laptop have all been successful.

The IIs services have seemingly been successfully installed and different port assignments successfully configured on Machine B including a redefinition of Port 3389 to a new port number in the registry where required and a change of WWW port 80 assignment to a new assignment as well.

Two different remote access shortcuts each reflecting the appropriate port assignment in the URL have been installed on the laptop that is attempting to connect remotely to each machine.

However, when attempting to connect remotely to Machine B from the appropriate shortcut on the laptop, the connection is still being routed to Machine A.

In other words, even though the shortcut on the laptop points to the port number on machine B and the router's tables forward those ports to Machine B's Static IP address, the laptop still connects to Machine A.

Static IP addresses have been confirmed on each machine.
The Netstat -an command shows the appropriate ports are ‘listening' on Machine A and B.
Port assignments pointing to the static IPs have been confirmed for both in the router tables.

It should be mentioned that I have attempted search for a solution but have not been successful as yet.

Help with 301 Redirect Disagreement

I'm currently getting two different opinions about this and am hoping someone can clear up the confusion. We are currently hosting a few thousand websites. Each website is configured with both a full host header (www.mydomain.com) and a shortened header (mydomain.com). For SEO purposes we are considering adding a separate website configuration for each domain to IIS which redirects the shortened header to the full header website using a 301 redirect. So, for example, if we had 3000 website entries in IIS, we now would have 6000. 3000 for the actual website (www.mydomain.com) and 3000 for the 301 website redirects (mydomain.com).

Anyway, one opinion is that this is not a good idea because doubling the number of websites will basically double the load on the server and in their opinion when you get that many websites IIS becomes unstable and to support that many websites twice as many servers should be used. For example, this person believes that every configured website listens on it's OWN port 80 (there are a total of 6 IP address configured on the server) and thus adds quite a bit of overhead along with other overhead the each website adds.

The other opinion is that adding these 3000 additional websites isn't going to really add to the overall load on the server since those extra 3000 websites are just sending a 301 redirect back to the clients and aren't really doing any additional work (or very minimal work if that). This person also believes that there is only ONE port 80 per IP address and that IIS is the process listening on this port and is responsible for processing the request for each configured website.

Anyway, can anyone give their insight on this situation as well as how many ports 80s there really are and also how many websites can be supported on IIS without it becoming unstable? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

SMTP Server turns off when Windows is rebooted

Hi,

My SMTP server appears to be set to be automatically switched off when the computer is rebooted. Therefore, whenever my server automatically gets updates from Microsoft, and reboots itself, I don't know that the smtp server is now switched off, until I notice e-mails myself not being sent, or when I notice the computer server has rebooted itself (I leave a notepad file open to tell me the computer has rebooted, as if it reboots, I notice the file is not open).

The best solution I am looking for is to ensure the smtp server always comes back on when the server is rebooted. If this is not possible, then other suggestions are very welcome!!

My Client2 is asking for iis log report. How i will differenciate the iis logs for both the clients???

Problem with IE8 and IIS6

I have been trying to debug a strange IE8 problem and have figured out what is causing it but no solution.

I have an application written using .net 1.1 running on IIS6. When a user views a page on it with IE7, Firefox, Chrome it render fine.

SOME users when using IE8 go to it it has no widths on textboxes and pull downs and some fonts are very large system fonts. Other IE8 users are fine. Compatibility mode makes no difference on these pages.

I used an IE8 version fine for 2 months then overnight it all changed. Here is what I found out. I have some clients hosting the pages using .net 1.1 on IIS7 and they render fine in previously bad IE8 users. So it is something to do with the way IIS6 is sending the pages or how IE8 renders what it sends.

Also If I take the application and change the .net version from 1.1 to 2.0 on the IIS6 web server the page renders properly again. I cannot just change this application over to 2.0 do to other problems but the main page comes up without the width and font issues under IIS6 2.0 on IE8 users that were experiencing the problem. If I change the page back to .net 1.1 the problem with ie8 returns.

Any thoughts or fixes either for IE8 or the actual web server?

IIS 6.0 Error - 400 - Request Length

I have two websites running on the IIS 6.0 server on windows 2003 SP2 machine. One website has no issues but for the other one I am getting 400 - Request length error in the HttpErr log file. I checked the request length using network trace and the request length shows up ranging from 100 to 3000. Also the same url works fine on other windows 2003 machine with IIS 6.0 in a different environment. Can someone provide more details on how to investigate and resolve this issue?

i am using a shared ip for my website, and i want to map *.domain.com to domain.com, and then, in application layer, decide which subdomain was requested. i've googled some, but the overall result i got, is that it's only applicable for dedicated ips. is n't there really, any way to handle this? are all weblogs using dedicated ip s?!

OK, I've searched for hours for an answer to this and haven't found one so if this has been done before, I apologize.

OK, I have a server up that is running Windows Server Standard x32 with IIS 6.0. I have 5 ip addresses associated with this box. Now I run game server rentals on it and the problem I'm having is that I want to make a directory viewable at a certain address. For example, this certain directory let's say it is C:\UserFiles\UserAccount\AA\System\pb\svss and this directory would contain a file named pbsvss.htm that is written to by the game. The users normally go to the ip which would show something similar to this one http://216.180.236.207. However, I want them to be able to view it at http://216.180.236.207_1716. Is this possible and if so, how do I accomplish this?

Occasional "Service unavailable"

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some help. I've got one server with IIS, with dozen or so domains on it. The problem is occasionally sites gives "Service unavailable" error message. There is nothing in the log files, IIS looks like running without any breaks, event logs doesn't show anything about IIS. What did I miss ? What may cause such a problem ? People report that it happens sometimes when you refresh the page 5 times but I tried to do that thousands of times and I didn't notice such a problem. I really don't want to send them into the three saying SOA#1 "It works for me" as they keep sending a screenshots to me with that error so I have stopped to believe they are so desperate.

IP addresses disappearing from IIS

We have a cluster IP address for a website that is listed in the Multiple SSL identities for this web site section in IIS 6.0. Every once in awhile we notice that the ip address is missing. The only thing that was done once was a certificate import. Would this cause IIS to drop the ip address from the website identification?

IIS6 on Win 2003 Server, Application Server.
Some time ago, I created a website, https enabled.
I set it up using client certificates, and all works fine.

Under this website I created some web applications, ASP.NET driven, and all of them works as expected.

Today I wanted to examine some logs for access (C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles\<website_folder>) but I can see only few files and not all the applications are logged !!

Let's say that I have 3 applications under the site:

https://my.com/App1
https://my.com/App2
https://my.com/App3
and all of them are accessed everyday.

If I examine the log folder I can see file like these:

ex091111.log
ex091020.log
... (21 days miss)

I mean, some files miss !!!

When I open them, only one application is partially logged ... when it is started.

I also tried to search all the computer for files created/modified after using the application but no one was created/modified.

What's going on here ?

I understand http.sys is embedded in the kernel for better performance instead of using winsock.

I recently reviewed the http.sys hoping it would reveal some leads on IE hangs and application locks being experienced on a mission critical application.

I found a lot of 400 errors for a specific file and timeouts for other files..... lots of timeouts.... i guess my question being a newbie at this is, if you found this in this log, what would be the next step to lowering the error log of 400 errors and timeouts?
