Hello everybody, I'm having WebServer 2008 amd64 on RAID-1 mirror array with some break of partitions
BIOS NVIDIA nFORCE provided RAID-1 succesfully while WebPI do nothing
After WebPI installed Umbraco CMS5 after reboot
BIOS RAID drivers show "Degraded" message on POST
WebServer (Windows Server) show Updating Screen, when must not shutdown or reboot
with updating Windows NVIDIA nFORCE driver.
After reboot:
1: RAID-1 array "crumbled" on many volumes
2: install logs was written only on first of the disks
3: free diskspace on windows disks (pair of system disks) have not equivalent value
4: diskpart cann't repair array
How repair RAID-1 array?
Thanks for posting - sorry, I have no idea how WebPI would impact your RAID-1 array. You may want to post this in a hardware specific forum also for some help
Thanks for answer, Chris. I have no it too. I don't understand why Server begun update hardware driver good worked.
Situation was: Yesterday I installed WebPI 3.0 and desided to try Umbraco CMS. Install it, get prompt to start it and shutdown server to try it on a next day.
Today I started server, logged in and first I saw - windows nvidia nforce driver installing.
Why?
I analysed disk info and founded
- log files was written only first disk from mirror array
- Microsoft SQL Server was written on first disk 1211 files, on second disk - 1218 files.
- server didn't shutdown, applications didn't break.
I purpose installer wrote on disks on direct. Don't used own NVIDIA driver.
And so I found Windows Server have not repair RAID-1 tools. Diskpart work only RAID-5 arrays.
You are not right now sanded me to hardware specific forum. I think to be soft bug. Where?
May be update algorithm, may be WebPI, may be server security....
Morning, dear Chris,
I've analizing a logs at morning today from installation date and had seen:
1 - MS SQL log fragment:
2012-04-25 22:05:42.79 Сервер SQL Server is now ready for client connections. This is an informational message; no user action is required.
2012-04-25 22:05:43.57 spid10s Clearing tempdb database.
2012-04-25 22:05:48.82 spid10s Starting up database 'tempdb'.
2012-04-25 22:05:52.45 spid13s The Service Broker protocol transport is disabled or not configured.
2012-04-25 22:05:53.00 spid13s The Database Mirroring protocol transport is disabled or not configured.
2012-04-25 22:05:54.26 spid13s Service Broker manager has started.
2012-04-25 22:05:54.71 spid7s Recovery is complete. This is an informational message only. No user action is required.
2012-04-25 22:44:10.10 Сервер SQL Server is terminating because of a system shutdown. This is an informational message only. No user action is required.
== end of fragment ===
I think You know better what must to do WebPI for Mirror disks on WebServer.
2 - MS SQL Log files was written on second disk from mirror only 04-25-2012 and 04-26-2012 its was written only first disk
This show unequivalent numbers of files.
3 - My WebServer 2008 x64 have from 04-26-12 six(6) mandatory updating of Security MS.Net FW v4.0 & three(3) unmandatory...
I say this because I didn't find successfully installing Windows NVIDIA nForce driver.
4 - I can not to roll away installing Windows NVIDIA nForce driver - it didn't install successfully.
and trying of installing it destroyed work of system.
Why? I've seen Windows Update log and have find MS Windows Update Service didn't work at 04-25-2012 because log doesn't contain event 30 for WindowsUpdateClient.
Therefore we have three suppositions:
1 - WebPI cann't determine mirroring of system store & write own logs direct to disk with %TEMP% or %TMP% for system environment
2 - WebPI was developed for using MS Windows drivers of mirror devices and cause updating of disk driver
3 - Updating of disk driver didn't be to do because MS WindowsUpdate Service didn't work or hadn't access to (I was having a good internet connection)
and last...
...if installer determinate need update some driver is a good idea to pause of installation while a driver should not be updated.
