i had installed dotnetframework 3.5 on the WinXP IIS machine and and had perform a "aspnet_regiis.exe",
but the problem still exist.
i need advise on the following :-
a) dotnetframework 3.5 not supported in IIS5.1? and only can run on IIS 6 & above, yes/no?
b) IIS5.1 is default WebServer in WinXP and cannot be upgraded to a higher Version IIS6 or 7 on WinXP machine? yes/no?
c) if the above point a & b are both true, is it true that APS.NET App building
on dotnetframework 3.5 cannot be host on IIS on WinXP? yes/no?
d) if point c is true, then WebApp written on dotnetframework 3.5 & above, must be host on the following system :-
- IIS 6 on WinServer 2003
- IIS 7 on Window Vista or WinServer 2008
- IIS7.5 on Window 7 (coming soon but when)?
So in the current Window 7, what is the current version of IIS(is it IIS6.1), and can it support WebApp on DotNetFramework3.5?
- IIS 8 on window unknown???
Hope someone here that has gone thru the same problem before, is able to give me advise on the above queries.
Hey martin. thank very much for the confirmation that asp.net based on dotnetframework3.5 are supported
on IIS 5.1 on a WinXP machine.
I had confirmed that the ASP.NET that i had built is done with VS2008 and uses dotnetframework3.5 (dotNetFramework 4.0 is not used).
But I am not sure about whether the WinXP is installed with the latest Service Packs and Security Patches for dotnetFramework 3.5.
Can I confirm that for dotnetFramework 3.5
> the latest Service Patch is --> SP 1?
> But i do not know what is the latest security Patch version and where do download it?
Many thank to the valuable help. The framework update, service patch and Window Security Packs, are installed and indeed it helps
However, Now I got a different set of errors. I guess it is trying to look for CrystalReport & Microsoft Report Library System file.
My WebApp will not work without these Reporting Tools (that come default within Visual Studio 2008).
Any patches need to be updated in order for the IIS to work with CrystalReport & Microsoft Report,
where can i obtain these patches for updating to the IIS? (stressed! :<)

Hello,
Have you installed Dot Net Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1?
You will need the proper version of Dot Net installed and registered with the "aspnet_regiis.exe" Tool.
I suggest you read http://blogs.iis.net/davcox/archive/2009/06/29/how-to-download-iis.aspx IIS Team post
for the versions of IIS Server which are operating system dependent.
The IIS 5.1 on Windows XP can not be upgraded to IIS 6 or IIS 7.

Hello,
item 1) The Web Application that you created where was this created?
item 2) The Web Application that you created how are you deploying or putting this on the Windows XP system?
Ok, You have installed dotnetframework 3.5 on the WinXP IIS machine and and had performed a "aspnet_regiis.exe".
Was the Web Application created on a system that also had the Dot Net 4.0 Framework installed
and uses Dot Net 4.0 components and code ?
Dot Net Framework versions and installation and IIS Server versions and upgrades information:
The Dot Net Frameworks 2.0, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0 if installed with the latest updates for Service Packs and Security patches
is supported on Windows XP Professional and IIS 5.1 Server.
a) Dotnetframework 3.5 not supported in IIS5.1?
The Dot Net Framework 3.5 is supported on IIS 5.1 see notes above.
Dot Net Frameworks are supported on IIS Server 5.1 and higher versions.
See the notes above about versions and installation.
b) Yes IIS5.1 is default WebServer in Winows XP Professional and cannot be upgraded to a higher Version IIS6 or 7 on WinXP machine?
No you can not upgrade IIS 5.1 Server to a higher version unless you upgrade the Operating System.
c) This does not follow (If the above point a & b are both true) logically.
Applications using ASP.NET App built on dotnetframework 3.5 can be hosted on IIS 5.1 on WinXP Professional.
If the correct Dot Net Frameworks are installed as noted earlier.
d) This does not follow (if point c is true.) logically.
The Web Applications written on dotnetframework 3.5 & above can also be host on the following systems:
- IIS 6 on WinServer 2003. The Windows 2003 operating system has IIS 6.0 server.
- IIS 7 on Window Vista or WinServer 2008. The Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 have IIS 7.0 Server.
- IIS 7.5 on Window 7 (coming soon but when)? is already part of the Windows 7 operating system and is IIS 7.5 Server.
- Window 7 the current version of IIS is 7.5 there is no IIS 6.1 Server.
- Windows 7 can support WebApp on DotNetFramework3.5 and DotNetFramework 2.0 and DotNetFramework 4.0
- IIS 8 on window unknown???. The Windows System for IIS 8 Server has not yet been released.
It is possible that others have had problems with creating or running Web Applications:
The common failure can be not having installed the required Dot Net Frameworks.
The common failure can be the type of Deployment to the IIS Server.
Not knowing how the Web Application was created or where it is hard to say more.
If you check the IIS 5.1 Server logs and error message it may help in resolving the issues.
Hope this helps,
Martin

Hello,
I suggest that you check Aaron Stebner's MSDN Web Site
and get the Dot Net Verification Tool http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/10/13/8999004.aspx and
use it to check the Framework Versions currently installed.
While still at Aaron Stebners Web Site read the
Dot Net Framework set-up guide http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2010/12/22/10108400.aspx for installation
order.
In the articles by Aaron Stebner contain the links to the required Windows Installer packages that are required.
Just so you know he usually provides links to the stand-alone packages and they can be large and require a good internet
connection.
Since your using Visual Studio 2008 Aaron has a guide for proper set-up and configuration.

Hello,
To fix the Crystal Reports problems you will need to visit the:
Crystal Reports Web Site and get the latest redistributable for Visual Studio 2008 Crystal reports
and install the Assemblys as part of your Project.
The SAP Crystal Reports site has instructions and guides.
The page at Crystal Reports at SAP Community Network http://forums.sdn.sap.com/forum.jspa?forumID=313 is the
start page to find latest fix packs and updates.
For problems with Crystal Reports and coding the the SAP Forums is best place to get help and guides.
For the Linq Reference and Assembly you should check which version is in the GAC on the target machine and update
the web.config reference.
