In order to improve file download performance, we enabled HTTP compression on IIS6. User has issue to open a zip files downloaded from IE 7/8 with error msg "The Compressed (zipped) Folder is invalid or corrupted.". This seems a know issue with Microsoft
product. (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2002350) I have tried all the options provided by this article without luck. All the files that downloaded are from
Web application (.exe) which is included a dynamic application data, I believe. What kind settings or workaround that I can use to exclude all ZIP files from IIS HTTP compression? Please help.
If you only want to speed up the download for .zip files, the http compression would not help. But for your problem you can execute the following from my research: Disable global static compression by executing the following command at a command prompt: adsutil
set w3svc/filters/compression/parameters/HcDoStaticCompression false Look into the site for above mentioned details as these are extracted from: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/WindowsServer2003/Library/IIS/502ef631-3695-4616-b268-cbe7cf1351ce.mspx?mfr=true
Thank you very much for the response. I need to EXCLUDE .ZIP file sent back by application due to IE browser issue to understand IIS compression on ZIP files. Here is the article on IE browser issues with IIS compression:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2002350). The other workaround solution is to force IE browser to set MIME type of ZIP file as application/octet-stream instead of application/x-zip-compression. Not sure if I can do this.

This has been going on from day 1 with this server. I don't think it's hardware related. Everything else works fine, plus I can access the files fine over the network via a shared drive, but if I download them from a website I setup for the share (allowing
for file browsing) it fails.
In that case you need to special application to come back corrupted .zip archives. I would suggest you the next one utility Zip file repair
