I face problms to connect to MYSQl Databases using Databse Manager 1.0. I tired to set up connection in IIS "Connection Settings" like this:
When I want to open the database connection. I receive error, the login failed for user root.
MySQL looks OK and I can connect to it by command promt as user root.
Any idea, how to open the MySQL databases and where coudl be the problem?
In some articles, I read, there should be specified MySQL port 3306, but I am not sure, where to add this port in the Connection settings dialog.
I tried like this: "localhost:3306" NOT OK.
And I tried to specify it in the Custom field of Conenction String like this: "Server=localhost;Database=mysql;User ID=root;Password=xxxx;Port=3306;
We use: Win 2008. My SQL was installed using MS Web Platform Installer.
MySQL Database should be OK as there is already Wordpress runnign on it.
Thanks for advice.

Take a look at connectionstrings.com for the proper syntax to connect to MySQL.

Thank you Jeff for good website tip. I tried according to string I found there, but did not succeed. I finally installed MySQL Administrator to connect to databases.

If the add connection dialog did not have a PORT field then I suspect you did not the have the MySQL database provider selected. If you open a new connection and select the Database Provider dropdown do you see "My SQL 5.x,6x(MySQL.Data.MySQLClient)"
IF not this blog might help :http://blogs.iis.net/ma_khan/archive/2009/10/02/how-to-configure-mysql-to-work-with-iis-db-manager.aspx

where exactly you mean, I shoudl select this provider? When I create a new connection on Win2008, there is no selection like this. There is following dialog.
I saw on the web some tutorial, and there were Win Vista screenshot, there was the dropdown for selection of Provider.

This screen shot is not from the IIS database Manger. This is part of Connection Strings Dialog for ASP.Net. . To get the provider dropdown using the Database Manager feature.
