    IIS7 and SMTP

    Hi

When adding the SMTP feature to my Windows 2008 server - I have noticed that the following services were ALSO loaded, W3SVC and IISADMIN, opening up a listener on port 80.

I can disable the W3SVC and still use the SMTP service.  However, I'm concerned that by disabling w3svc that I may be doing somthing wrong.  Are the W3SVC and IISADMIN services actually required? can I or should I diable both services?

    thanks

    Peter

    You can disable W3SVC.

But I am not sure if SMTP depends on IISADMIN. You can check Services panel. I guess SMTP relies on this to access metabase.

As SMTP is no longer an IIS 7 component, this forum will not be the best resources for such questions. Exchange forums should be better,

SMTP Service depends on IISAdmin service as it runs inside the process.  As far as W3SVC, you can disable.   There are some legacy components needed, metabase, IIS Manager 6 etc..
