Error while installing Visual Web Developer

I installed Web Platform Installer successfully on my system.Further I also installed SQL Server 2008 but when Visual Web Developer starts installing then error is thrown and installation stops.

Error is "This product did not install successfully:Downloaded file failed signature verification and may have been tampered with."

Please help me because each time I try to solve one error another pops up and I cannot proceed.

    Thanks in advance.

Re: Error while installing Visual Web Developer

Hello muv2009, Sorry to hear about your problem. Can you post the webpi log file located at :

%userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Web Platform Installer\logs\  (Please post the corresponding logs for your failed install from both \install and \webpi directories). This would help us narrow down on the issue you are facing.

    thanks, Satish

Re: Error while installing Visual Web Developer

I don't have the logs folder in my Web Platform Installer folder. There is a webpi.preferences file a nothing else. The log file which I am sending is taken from the setup process itself.Where the failure error is thrown there a link is given to view the log file .This is the same one.

Re: Error while installing Visual Web Developer

    Hi muv2009,

Do you have an existing installation of SQL express 2005 with named instance  called SQLExpress. If so this this reason you are failing here is that WebPi installs using the default instance name of "SQLExpress".

If that is the case then there are the following options.

-- Remove the current SQL2005 Instance and Install 2008 SQLExpress using WebPI

-- Leave the existing instance in place and install SQL 2008 using the standalone installer and give it a new Instance name . You can download it here . Or if you have not cleared the webpi installer cache the installation  files should be on your system here:

    Vista/Windows7: %localappdata%\Microsoft\Web Platform Installer\installers

    XP: 2003 :  %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Web Platform Installer\installers.

    Thanks

    Richard

Re: Error while installing Visual Web Developer

     Hi Richard,

I had uninstalled the existing versions of SQL and then tried to install using Web Platform Installer.I am learning ASP.NET  with the help of Joe Stagner's videos which are available on the ASP.NET website. But I could not succeed.

But what if I don't want SQL Server and I want only Visual Web Developer. Is this possible.

Also can you tell me how to mark a post as answered if I am satisfied with any answer given to my problem.

I really can't understand what to do.Please help.

    Thanks

Re: Error while installing Visual Web Developer

If you run the installer manually there is an option to not install SQL server. The installer can be found in one of the the folders I mentioned in my last post under a folder called VWD and the file will be vwdsetup.exe.

Re: Error while installing Visual Web Developer

Yes I run the installer manually.I have a file vwdsetup.exe.

I have downloaded it from the website for ASP.NET.Sir Joe Stagner had provided the link to download the same in his first ASP.NET video. But it gives an error as

"Visual Web Developer 2008 has encountered a problem an needs to close" .

I also tried by installing Web Platform Installer .

WPI was installed sucessfully but when I further tried to install VWD 2008 it fails to install.

Sir please help me out or give me any good source through  which I can ownload VWD 2008 .

    Thank you for your help.

Re: Error while installing Visual Web Developer

If you have failed to install with the downloaded copies it does not appear that the download is your problem at this time and you will need to troubleshoot the installation.

Here are some blog links with pointers to assist here.

    Setup Issues:

    Log Locations

If you are not able to identify the problem can you gather the installation logs with the Collection tool  here and email to  webpi at microsoft.com

    Thanks

    Richard

Re: Error while installing Visual Web Developer

     Hi

I have downloaded the collection  tool as specified.Hope it works well.

I will post the log files as soon as I collect them.

The Visual Web Developer was specified as SP1 .I want to ask that whether this SP1 has anything to do with the Service Pack installed on my system.

    Please let me know.

    Thanks muv2009
