I need to move IIS 6.0 windows 2003 stand. to another Windows 2003 stand IIS 6.0

    All

I am in the need of help with moving IIS from one machine to a newer machine.  I have all the virtual directoris and FTP set. The automation tool will not work.  IISMT will not execute on the server I need to re-establish IIS 6.0.  http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/thankyou.aspx?familyId=2aefc3e4-ce97-4f25-ace6-127f933a6cd2&displayLang=en

The Question that I have is how to move the Application pool over to the next system?

I need to know how to re-establish the IIS application pool for the new server?

    Regards

Yes I can create the pool but not familiar with how the original set up should be.  These files are running individual DLL's Meaning that their are some customizations to this process.

Check that the pool can't be named exactly what it was orginally called.  It wont allow me to make tha change.

    Hi,

Web Deployment Tool can help you to do  this task.  You can use it to replicate whole web servers, sites etc.

Below are some more detailed information, hope helps

Does the msdeploy tool support the creation of AppPools?

You can export the Metabase from the old machine using the "Encrypt backup using password" option and you could restore on any windows 2003 machine.

open Inetmgr -> Rightclick on machine name -> All Tasks -> Create/Restore Backup -> Click Create Backup -> Select Encrypt backup using password -> enter password and click ok

This file will be placed in the %windir%\system32\inetsrv\metaback folder.

Copy the new created files to the other machine to metaback folder and restore using the Inetmgr from the same menus

Thank you I have managed to do this with your advice.  I appreciate it.   However after the migration I am no longer able to go to site.com now?  I can however go to www.site.com with out any problems.  Any advice for this will help.

    - Do you configure host header for the website?
    - Is the DNS record for site.com pointing to the new server as well?
