Vista Ultimate x64 IIS7 Install failure

I'm trying to install IIS7 on Windows Vista Ultimate x64.

Unfortunatly I installed VS2008 and SP1 on the machine.

I'm trying to install IIS7 throught Turn Features On and Off. After various failed attempts, even with minimum attempts the installation fails without even beginning with a progressbar. I looked up at the event viewer and I fould in the system category many errors all saying the same

Windows Servicing failed to complete the process of setting package KB960544 (Update) into Installed(Installed) state

I looked it up on the web and I found that I should execute SFC.exe /scannow which found files with errors that did not fix.

    I have UAC disabled.

That doesn't make a difference.  Did you follow the installation guide online here?

Re: Vista Ultimate x64 IIS7 Install failure

I looked around the site, before posting and the only thing I could find was the Control Panel->Programs and Features-> Turn Windows Features On and Off.

As I said I had tried various compinations, every one simpler than the previous, of IIS components but none of the worked. I think there might be a problem with my system.

Today after I turned the machine on, which didn't happen yesterday in between my installation efforts, the system run a hard disk scan on the windows drive and corrected some errors. Maybe it was the sfc command, I don't know. The problem is that in the Windows Featurs dialog now there nothing to select or populate so something is even wronger than before

    Thank you

This seems to be a pretty widespread issue. I just can't wait to get my Windows 7 DVD (upgrade). Seems like something was terribly wrong with some Windows Updates. Microsoft really needs to get to the bottom of this! How can we trust updates if they can this kind of side-effect?
