cannot connect to ftp site(s)

I'm working through IE8 and always get "Internet Explorer cannot display this page" message when I type in (correctly) the ftp site address.

I saw some previous discussions on this, but have not found any workable solutions so far.

I work for a client who requires me to post my completed documents and graphics to their ftp site, but I cannot get to the site.

I have tried FileZilla, and it was fine for a while, now it will not connect either.

I'm not high-end computer savvy, so clear, basic explanations will be helpful.

Hello,

FileZilla is good FTP client. Have you received any errors? You could check your FTP connection typing in command prompt "telnet yoursite.com 21". Port 21 is the default FTP port.

I did not have any error messages. However, I did two things: 1) I totally removed FileZilla, then reinstalled it, and 2) I found that my Windows Firewall was enabled, so I disabled that (I have firewall active in McAfee) and FileZilla worked fine after that. In fact, using the ftp URL directly through IE works again fine also. Seems the Windows Firewall was the interference.
