Web Platform Installer thinks IIS is installed, but it isn't

Hopefully this hasn't already come up - couldn't find anything on it.

I installed everything available the first time I ran WPI, but I can't find the IIS stuff anywhere.  Looking in Program Files/IIS just brings up a Web Deployment Tool folder.  Otherwise, it's empty.

Also if I try to install any extensions, the installers claim IIS isn't found, so I'm pretty sure it failed to install.

Meanwhile, there are no options available under the "Web Server" tab in WPI.  It says everything is installed, and when I click Customize, it brings up a nearly empty pane - the only thing on it is a button saying "return to Web Platform Installer".

Anyone able to help?  Thanks a ton!

Re: Web Platform Installer thinks IIS is installed, but it isn't

    Hi ,

IIS  is  installed as an operating system feature   and it's installation files would be placed under c:\windows\system32\inetsrv.  If installed you will find that Inetmgr.exe is in this folder and if you launch it it will bring up the IIS Managment  console. When trying to install extensions  WebPI this should pick up that the IIS dependency is missing and try to install it.

What operating system are you on ?

    Thanks

Thanks for the reply.  I'm on Vista Home Basic.  I checked out that folder, and it exists but is empty.  Thanks for the help!

Btw, I'm using WebPI 2.0 RC if that makes a difference. I'm guessing RC is for release candidate?  Is there a more stable version to try?  Thanks!

EDIT: I noticed there's a bunch of reg keys and stuff named IIS* or *IIS.  Is there a specific key that webpi might check for?  I could delete it and try to see if it picks it up, but I just don't want to go in deleting things without some solid advice. =)

The version of Vista explains it. The full version of IIS  to support web server functionality does not ship with Vista Home Basic, and the problem with the current release of WebPi  is that it does not  validate this  during install.

The full version of IIS on Vista comes with the following versions.

    • Windows Vista Home Premium Edition
    • Windows Vista Professional Edition
    • Windows Vista Ultimate Edition

Ah unfortunate, but good to know.  Thanks!
