Re: Failed to Install SQL Server Express 2008

     Hi Mike

From the log it appears that you are being denied access to the registry key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{0ADDA830-2C26-11D2-AD65-00A0C9AF11A6}\InprocServer32

I dont  have access to a Windows XP machine  but on Windows 7 the Administrators and System account have full control over this key. You can manually check this with regedit.

To determine what account is being denied you can use the registry auditing feature Process Monitor.Run this while performing the install then search the log using Edit > Find for "denied"

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645.aspx

I'll check the settings for XP tomorrow.

    Thanks

    Richard

Re: Failed to Install SQL Server Express 2008

I confirmed on XP that System and Administrators both had Full Control on this key. Also PowerUsers had all permissions except, Full  Control, Create link, write DAC and Write Owner.

My guess is that on your sytem Administrators is possibly missing from the CLSID key.

Let us know if you have further questions.

    Thanks Richard
