  niharika.j Joined on 07-22-2009, 4:41 AM Posts 7	Problem Installing Managemnet Tools Reply Contact Hi,  I have intially installed SQL Server 2008 Run time express and it got installed proplery.Then i realised that i need Management Tools as well.When i tried to install this it fails.I am not sure how to proceed from here.Can you help me out with this.Do, I need to uninstall everything and install again?

At first it seemed that the Windows PowerShell dependancy was not installing, despite already being so.   After looking at other threads, I tried uninstalling this through "Add/Remove Programs", but this did not help at all.  Retrying after that reinstalled PowerShell successfully, but the Management Tools installation still failed, as outlined above.

You can verify this in the log files here  in Detail.TxtC:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Log\<DateTimeStamp>Message " A previous release of Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 is installed on this computer. Upgrade Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 to the SP1 before installing SQL Server 2008." I did install VS2008 SP1, and then uninstalled Powershell and any stuff realted to SQL server 2008, and then when i tried to install, it got installed successfully. So, apparently if you've got anything left over from earlier attempts or other packages, the management tools installation can't complete; you have to clean up and redo from scratch.
