Port requirements when implementing shared configuration

I'm interested in knowing what the port requirements are when implementing shared configuration.  Especially regarding the web content being located on a network share location or on another server.

Does this require port 445, file sharing port opened to permit the WFE to reach the files in this other location?

I am hoping not due to security issues around 445/file sharing.

    Hi,

Yes, it is  required port 445 opened to reach the shared files. We can locate the web content file or web config file on a network share location which can only internal visit, and host the website on the server machines have external IP address.

    Hi

Thank you for your response.  I thought that might be the case.  is there any way to change this or use another method in which get the WFE to pick up the web files/config file, perhaps by setting up the network share to have a website which cne be viewed by the WFE instead thus eliminate the need to open up port 445?
