Can not able to browse localhost from the web browser (IE)

I have installed IIS 6.0 and then .net frame work . After this i had install the sharepoint v3.

Now i created a new web application from central admin as default website ( website name given while creating is Sharepoint- 80).

Then I browsed https://localhost from the web browser IE. It worked nicely.

But today when I am trying to browse the same  I can not able to open Localhost. I am getting page can not display error.

i can browse the site from inetmgr when i right click on Sharepoint - 80.. but the problem is same i can not browse from web browser.

But when the system is connected to the internet i can browse from both inetmgr and from web browser IE

Kindly help me in resolving this issue

You will need to add a local loopback adapter.  Or better, forget about "localhost" since it's toally useless for anything, use the system name, host/domain name or IP address instead.

Okay, what does "cannot browse" mean?  Errors?  Did you turn off friendly errors in IE?  Anything in the event logs?  Do you have a non-Sharepoint site that can be tested?  Will Sharepoint work without  SSL?

Jeff .. I got a solution.. its due to sharepoint behaviour if the standalone system is configured as dedicated crawl... Link for your reference .. (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc261810.aspx) Thank u very much for replying
