ARR V2 disk caching - is pre-stuffing possible?

    Hi,

Is it possible to pre-stuff files into the disk cache of an edge proxy? We are dealing with large video files in a corporate environment and would like to avoid a cache miss for the first requst during peak hours. Files can be pre-positioned (copied to edge) during off-peak hours.

And a very simple question - how can one determine if a request was a cache hit or miss? I can't find anything in the log.

    Thanks,

    David B

Re: ARR V2 disk caching - is pre-stuffing possible?

    Hi David

Since the ARRv2 Beta1 release in March, the team has been working on the next release milestone, ARRv2 Beta2.  I am not able to get into the specifics of the feature set and/or the schedule, but I will say that it will have a feature that will pre-cache contents.

As for the cache-hit or miss - it depends on what you are looking for.  ARRv2 Beta1 has runtime statistics that will show you the overall performance of the cache hit/miss ratio.  If you are troubleshooting, then turning on request failing can be used to see if there is a cache hit or miss.  If you are trying to gather this information from the http.sys log for billing/accounting purposes, we don't log that info today.

I am curious to understand your user scenario a bit better w/r/t to the cache hit/miss in the log.
