    dotnetnuke database creation fails

    Installs great, but cannot create a database. I'm using Web Platform Installer that pops up after clicking "Install application from gallery..". I'm not sure what else to add, except it "fails to create the database". Windows 7: Build 7100 2.93ghz Intel Celeron 2gb ram IIS 7
    I'm a noob. I admit it and am sorry.

     You can check the installation logs in one of the following locations which should give you some information about the reason why this failed. 

    Vista / 2008 :     %localappdata%\Microsoft\Web Platform Installer

    XP, W2K3:           %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Web Platform Installer\logs

    Can you please put that into layman's terms? I don't get what you mean there. Sorry!

    1. Navigate to the logs folder directory

    Click Start Run  and enter the following and hit Enter.

    %localappdata%\Microsoft\Web Platform Installer

    If you dont have the Run dialog in your start menu you can manually navigate to this path where <Your User Name> =  the account you are logged in as. 

    C:\Users\<Your User Name>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Web Platform Installer

    2.  In this directory open the Logs folder.

    3.  Here you will find a WEBPI folder and Install folder. The webpi folder contains installation summary logs where you can look at the installation chaing. I would start in there.

    If you dont find the problem from that look in Install and find the folder with the  Date-Timestamp of your installation attempt. Inside that you will a log for the DotNetNuke installation.

     

    If you would like us to review the logs zip the complete Logs folder and  send to webpi@microsoft.com .

    I found the WEBPI file we needed. Going through it is a massive headache though! I think I get that the login failed but the question is why? Maybe you can make sense of it?     Baed on the log file contents, it looks like we failed to create a database due to login failure for user 'sa'.

    The database 'DotNetNuke' could not be created. ---> System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Login failed for user 'sa'.

    Can you double check that you have the correct password for 'sa' for your SQL Server?

    Did you install SQL Express using WebPI as well? If yes, this password would be the one you specified on the WebPI install wizard --- SQL screen (Step 2 of the WebPI install).
