IIS6 Error 401.3 on default web site.

    Hi,

I have a win2k3 server acting as a citrix server (CAE2).  The server was working previously however not sure when it broke though I am sure the default web site worked a few days ago.  This is a test/development/demo unit that I need to get operational again urgently.

If I try to access the default web site, or the citrix secure site I get the 401.3 error shown below.  I have checked/compared  all the settings permisions/NTFS settings with a working server and all seems OK.  I created a new web site which works without problem.  Any ideas where I can look or how I can resolve this as I have spent hours trying to get this working.

    TIA.

The error tells you the exact problem, you have permissions on the resource that deny access.  Change the file/folder permissions to allow access for the account accessing them.  ACLs are pretty direct, but make sure you're not cascading from above with a deny rule.

By the way, simply matching the NTFS permissions to another system may not work.  Group memberships, process account settings and other options can still change access rights.

    Thanks Jeff,

Deny rule above I had missed caused the issue.  Once cleared site access was restored.  Easy to miss the basic things, I had checked the ACLs a dozen times.

Many thanks for your prompt response.
